Outside the church, tens of thousands of people braved the cold and damp weather to wait for the coronation of King Edward VII.

At least a hundred people had set up tents overnight along the avenue in front of Buckingham Palace, so as not to miss the event.

After King Edward VII delivered his coronation speech, the Archbishop of Canterbury raised the Crown of St. Edward high and then lowered it onto the undisputed king's head.

The Crown of St. Edward is mainly made of gold and is adorned with many diamonds. It is the oldest and most valuable crown of the British monarchy, and has been used for the coronation of all monarchs throughout history.
