The Rise of a Scholar

"Why should I bow before that man?" asked a kid. "He's a top aristocrat of this kingdom. Kid, we're low class-men, born in lower class families. That's why we have to bow before him," answered the man. The kid became curious to know more. "Can I be like him? I also want to be respected by people," the kid said with an affirmed tone. The man started laughing hearing the kid's talks. "Hahaha. You're good in joking, kid. A low-class can't become a Scholar like them," stated the man and walked away. Determined to become a Scholar like the man described, the kid named Kim Yoon Shik decided to become a respected Scholar like the one he saw on the very first day in the Kingdom capital city. Lost his mother & father; pushed away his lover, the protagonist Kim Yoon Shik negotiated all the difficulties in his path and finally achieved the dream that he had seen in his childhood. ~~~~~~~~ Cover photo is taken from Pinterest so the copyrights are owned by its owner. His own war

The students in Sungkyunkwan were given a break from the studies so everyone left the academy to enjoy in that free time except Yoon Shik who had to complete the pending assignments. Do Yeong wanted to stay with Yoon Shik to give him company but because Sunwo insisted him to go with him so, Yoon Shik told Do Yeong that he should go.

"Do you need something from the market? We will bring for you," Do Yeong asked Yoon Shik who refused.

"We will be back in a while, Yoon Shik," asserted Park Sunwo and left with Do Yeong. As they descended the stairs out of the academy, they saw Lee Eunshi who was standing there as if he was waiting for them. "You did not leave?" Do Yeong asked Lee Eunshi as she stood near him.

"Leaving in a while. Just want to tell you that my friend will talk with the princess today. I will tell you later in the evening," Lee Eunshi proclaimed. Do Yeong thanked him and Lee Eunshi took his leave. "Hope her highness step back from this marriage," Do Yeong told Sunwo.

"Yes. I wish the same," Sunwo prayed and then looked at Yeong. "There is something odd about the identity of Lee Eunshi. How could he know someone from the Palace?" Sunwo raised his suspicion. The two continued walking on the way towards the market. "You are thinking too much," Yeong stated.

"By the way, where is Sung Tae? He told us that he would come with us then, where did he go to?" Do Yeong queried Sunwo who shook his head in refusal. "I do not know. Ahh, his friends are Chan Sul and Ro Sang Pil as well. So, he might have left with them," stated Sunwo and opened the fan.

Do Yeong got annoyed hearing that. "He is still keeping their company. He shall leave those two guys as they two have wicked minds," stated Do Yeong. Sunwo agreed with him. "They were filling the ears of Sung Tae regarding Yoon Shik," Sunwo told Yeong who was not surprised to hear that.

"What can we expect from those two? What were they telling him?" Do Yeong asked out of curiosity.

"That he shall work with them in a plan and throw away Yoon Shik from the academy. But, I talked with Sung Tae later so, he told me that he has no grudges against Yoon Shik because of his status but because he defies rules. Furthermore, Sung Tae told that he is well aware about Chan Sul and Sang Pil's behaviour," Sunwo narrated to Do Yeong.

"I do not understand why people have problem with Yoon Shik? It isn't like he is snatching their monies to survive. My father is biggest example of that. Yesterday, Hyung-nim came to me to give the message of the father that I shall not use his family's name to save a Sangmin."

Sunwo was not surprised to hear that because he knew Yeong's father would always stood beforehand to stop Yeong from helping Yoon Shik. "That's why you shall not take Yoon Shik's side. Who knows your father might be dangerous to him and his family? You know your father better than me," Sunwo proclaimed.

Yeong could not deny that fact. "Earlier I used to think my abeoji is nice man unlike the people describe him but the day I saw him in that Kisaeng's house, my trust from him had gone away. Indeed, he was strict since my childhood days but I still considered him supreme until the day I saw how he betrayed my mother," Yeong stated with a bitter tone.

Sunwo chuckled and closed the fan in his hand right away. "You cannot change anything even if you want to. You are a brainy guy. You shall be grateful to your great father that he did not harm Yoon Shik till now." Sunwo statement worried out Do Yeong.

"Let Yoon Shik fight his own war till the time he in the academy. Once he will be out along with us then, we will see what we have to do. For now, don't get into the bad eyes of your father which will directly impact Yoon Shik. Park family is the most respected family of Joseon and they don't expect a low born to get involve with them. Hope you understood my point," proclaimed Park Sunwo.

Do Yeong shook his head in agreement and the two resumed going to the market.

Hani reached the tea House and went to upstairs to one of the room which was booked for that day. She put away the curtains on the door and went inside where she saw four Kisaeng women were seated already. "Hani, goodness. I thought you will not come today. Thank you," Hwa Young told Hani with a tiny smile on her lips.

"What are you saying, sister Hwa? I had made the promise so, I had to come," stated Hani and passed her a smile. She then took her seat at the center and asked them if their customers did not come with them. Hani was relieved seeing no men there but still she wanted to confirm.

"They will be here in a while," Hwa Young replied and looked at her three other fellows. "Which story will you read for us, today?" Ji Aerum, another Kisaeng asked Hani. Hani scratched her head confusedly and replied, "I am thinking of telling the story of three princes and a far state princess," Hani replied.

Outside the tea house, Chan Sul, Wang Wook and Ro Sang Pil insisted Sung Tae to go with them inside the tea house but, he refused saying he had to go to the bookstore. "Sung Tae, you can buy the books later as well. We will accompany you as well," stated Sang Pil.

"Sung Tae, it feels like you have distanced yourself from us," Chan Sul complained.

"You are thinking too much, Chan Sul. We are friends since childhood days," asserted Sung Tae.

"Then, come with us," stated Sang Pil and put his hand around Sung Tae's shoulder. Chan Sul did the same and they walked inside, taking Sung Tae along with him. They ascended the stairs when Sung Tae asked why they were going upstairs.

"That's because there's a surprise for you and for us as well," stated Wang Wook.

"What? Even you don't know about the surprise?" Sung Tae asked, looking at them. Chan Sul refused and spoke, "It's planned by Kisaeng Hwa for us."

"W-what? When did you all start going in Kisaeng's House. Sorry, but I will not go there. You three shall enjoy," asserted Sung Tae and turned to go down the stairs when Sang Pil stopped him and said, "Whatever you are thinking that's not the case. They told us about a very famous story teller so, they planned the surprise regarding that. Come with us."

Sang Pil succeeded in making Sung Tae understand and he walked upstairs with them.
