'Chike, who gave you the right to fight with your elder sister and Uzoamaka I am disappointed in you'. Maazi Okeke said furiously. 'But papa I...' Uzoamaka tried to explain herself but her father cut her short. 'No buts. Now the two of you knee down here no supper for the two of you and I want to see your report card in my room after my supper'. He said and walked away. Chike became scared when his father mention their report card how will he tell his father that he will be repeating primary five for the second time. 

 After supper Uzoamaka went to get her report card but Chike went to meet his mother just in case she can help him escape from his father's cane.

 When Maazi Okeke checked all the results laying on his small stool and discovered that Chike result was not there he called his name 'Oyinbo' (the name Maazi Okeke calls his son). Mama Chike entered the room with Chike behind her. It was as if they had been waiting for Maazi Okeke call. 'Oyinbo were is your report card' Maazi Okeke asked his son waiting for a reply. 'His result is with me there is no need for you to.....' Mama Chike was trying to convince Maazi Okeke to forget about the result but he cut her short. 'Give the results to me' Maazi Okeke said calmly. Mama Chike handled him a piece of paper and after going through the report card he looked at Chike angrily and said 'what is the meaning of this, so I have been spending my money on a dullard like you eh' Maazi Okeke rose up with his cane and was about to flog Chike who had already ran out when mama Chike tried to blocked the door preventing him from following Chike Maazi Okeke pushed his wife and ran towards Chike who had just tripped and fell. Maazi Okeke catch Chike and began to flog him. Mama Chike tried to intervene by holding the cane but ended up been caned by Maazi Okeke. Mama Chike immediately drew back to avoid been floogged again. 'you will not kill my son for me' mama Chike said standing at a safe distance. 

 Maazi Okeke left Chike and walked back to his room angrily.
