Chapter 4 (New Weekly Routine)

Meanwhile,

Kyle was very curious about the extent of his physical changes, so he had already made plans for how to test these limitations himself.

This was the primary reason he suggested Natasha return to work. This was because with her at home watching him he would not be able to achieve any of those plans.

Natasha would continue to urge him to take a rest, in fact she still doesn't totally believe he was in full health.

Kyle wore his sneakers and locked the door to their apartment. The building had ten floors and their apartment was located on the seventh.Normally, the building had no elevators so every tenant had to use the stairway to get to their apartment no matter what floor they lived on.

Kyle had climbed the stairway on countless occasions but he could never forget the feeling of how exhausted he always felt doing so. Due to his weak nature, he could never climb the stairs without taking a break. Therefore, Kyle decided that this would be his first experiment.

He had already observed that when he was climbing the stairs to their apartment when he returned from the hospital earlier, he didn't stop to catch his breath. He also didn't feel exhausted in any way but he wanted to try it out this time by climbing the stairs while jogging rather than walking.

Kyle sucked in a deep breath, he was nervous about what he was about to attempt but his curiosity about the result was more compelling. It was his intention to slowly jog down the stairs, but Kyle found himself standing on the first floor of the building in less than a minute.

A shocked expression swept over Kyle's face as he looked up from his legs to glance at the stairway. "What the heck?" He muttered in amazement.

Kyle wanted to confirm if he wasn't being delusional. Therefore, he jogged up the stairs again without hesitation, but this time he wasn't able to make it to the top. He had crashed against the wall because his speed was like a flash and Kyle was unable to control it.

"Wow, that was unexpected." Kyle remarked as he dragged himself up from the ground. Kyle wasn't even hurt in the slightest after that collision but the same couldn't be said for the wall which now had a huge crack in it.

"What the hell is going on down there?" A voice yelled from the upper floor

"Holy shit, that stupid maniac isn't going let this one go easily" Kyle said when he noticed the crack. "I'd better leave this place before he gets here."

Kyle covered his face with the hood of his jacket and hurriedly exited the building. Climbing the stairs back up was an unwise idea at the moment because the landlord which Kyle was referring to as a manic was also coming down the stairs.

Besides Kyle realized that if he continued to test his abilities here, it was almost inevitable that he would tear the building down or get caught which he wanted to avoid because he still wanted to hide the fact that he had awakened a secret.

The only place Kyle could think of to continue his experimentation was an abandoned warehouse close by and that was where he headed straightaway.

Kyle spent several hours in the warehouse testing his abilities and the results he got were outstanding. Although he was still unable to control some of his actions at the moment, the fact was that he was totally sure that he had awakened.

There was now hope for him to achieve his true desire and to finally give both himself and his mother a better lifestyle. Kyle wanted to continue practicing but he had to go back home before Natasha returned from her stall.

Kyle came home to find the landlord screaming his lungs out because of the broken wall. Due to the fact that nobody paid any attention to him, walking silently past him wasn't too difficult. As soon as he entered his apartment, Kyle headed straight to his room to take a quick shower.

As he took a bath, he recalled all that he had experienced today. While his strength, stamina, speed, and ability expanded exponentially, even more than a D-rank Metahuman, Kyle was still pondering the mystery behind his sudden awakening.

Meanwhile, Natasha had already arrived home when Kyle was still in the bathroom and by the time Kyle was done with his bath and returned back to the living room he was surprised to see his mother in the kitchen.

"Mom, you're back home early." Kyle said as he approached her.

"Yes, I didn't have much to do back at the stall today and I was also worried about you." Natasha answered.

"Well, I told you that I would be fine and that you didn't have to worry so much." Kyle assured Natasha. "Tell me, was business smooth today?" He asked.

Natasha's expression became dull for a brief second after hear Kyle's question but she immediately faked a smile.

"It actually boomed well today and there was definitely no problem at all" Natasha lied.

"It turns out people actually missed my food, so definitely came rushing as soon as they heard that I had reopened."

"See, that's why I told you not to keep it closed for a long time or else you might lose customers. I told you I'm fine now so just stay focused on your stall."

Natasha couldn't help but smile at Kyle, he was always acting like this. Trying not to make her worry or burden her, so she wanted to return the favor. That's why she didn't tell Kyle about the sudden increase in the protection fee which was her fault because she overreacted.

Natasha was determined to work more diligently to earn more money to cover these expenses. This was because in the next few days Slick and his crew would return to collect their price.

"Mom...Mom...are you alright?"

She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even realize Kyle was calling. She reverted to reality after Kyle gave a sudden nudge on her shoulders.

"I'm sorry, I just recalled something important."

"Why don't you go take a rest and let me make dinner instead?"

Natasha profusely shook her head as she refused Kyle's offer. "I'm okay, you should just go back to the living room and watch TV or something. When dinner is ready I'll let you know."

Kyle stared at his mother for a while longer, he was so sure that something was wrong but he didn't want to pry as long as she wasn't ready to tell him.

"Fine, I'm going to watch TV." Kyle declared.

"Hmm, have fun, I'll be done in a short while." Natasha responded as Kyle exited the kitchen.

In just a short time, Natasha finished cooking dinner. Both mother and son had a hearty meal but because Natasha was both exhausted and wanted Kyle to get some rest, they both retired to bed early.

****

While a week passed, Kyle and Natasha continued to follow the same routine over the past few days.

Natasha would wake up early to make breakfast and go to her stall, only to come home late at night. While Kyle would always secretly visit the warehouse to continue training his abilities which he was now able to control to a certain extent.

Kyle could tell something was going on by Natasha's sudden change of schedule. He wasn't pleased to see her overworking herself, so he never missed a day of practice.

Due to the darkening day, Kyle decided to stop exercising for today since he had achieved what he wanted. Moreover, he also had to make dinner today as well just like he had been doing these past few days before Natasha arrived because he didn't want her to come back home to put herself through another stress of cooking.

However, on his way back home, Kyle observed something strange. The streets was usually crowded with people and very busy at this time of the day because most people were returning from their various workplaces.

As he strolled back home, the street was sparse and quiet. The few people Kyle met on his way back home were either in a hurry or running, and Kyle could also hear various houses putting locks on their doors as they shut themselves into their houses.

"What's happening to everyone?" Kyle wondered.

Kyle arrived home and climbed the stairs to his apartment. When he was about to open the door, their next door neighbor suddenly called him.

"Kyle, it's a good thing you're back home. Is your mother also inside?" She asked.

"Good evening aunt Naomi" Kyle greeted her before answering her questions. "Mom should still be at her stall but she will be back soon."

"Oh no, this is really bad." Naomi gasped.

"What's wrong aunt Naomi? " Kyle suddenly became alerted.

Crow gang visited the district today, but the stall owners couldn't pay up their protection fees, so now they're ruining everything. Look Kyle there is nothing you can do about it it. Just stay..."

Kyle dashed off before Naomi could complete her statement. He finally understood why everyone was acting in such a dramatic manner today.

"Fuck....Fuck...Fuck" Kyle continued to curse as he ran towards his mother's stall.
