Chapter 5 THE PINPRICK OF PAIN

Chapter 5: The Pinprick of Pain

***

DIANA WAS a famous girl in her previous life who had experienced a thrilling event; however, she was reborn with the assistance of others, and her life after rebirth was even more enticing.

Hunt, Gunner, and Xander, the three middle-aged men, looked at Diana, who was quiet, and clapped their hands together.

“Today is really a good day. Lady Eloise finally took off the veil to reveal her true beauty as we continued to gamble on stones,” Hunt said. “We’re hoping for more recognition.”

The crowd erupted in delight, and everyone rushed up to find the stone they could see. And looking at the stone was like looking at glimmering gold.

People eventually picked up the stones that appeared bright and beautiful on the table.

Diana raised an eyebrow and examined the five stones that were in poor condition. From the top of the five small, unattractive stones, she felt the seemingly fresh breath of air. She moved closer to the table, slightly tilting her head to examine them.

The five stones were gradually stripped of their coat... little by little, revealing the green fruit. It was clear that the green color appeared intermittently in one direction, and the green strip was one centimeter wide.

Diana suddenly saw Eloise’s memories that flashed with an answer... It had to be the Golden Silk Seed!

The late Eloise saw the clarity in the stone and had an understanding of the finished jadeite product.

Heinrich, who is quietly watching in the corner, keeps his gaze fixed on the woman who resembles Diana. He noticed how her eyes flashed a startling light while staring at the stones.

He knew that Diana wasn’t interested in gambling stones. But this woman... she’s enjoying it.

Diana cast a glance at Hunt and his companions. She observed how they joyfully collected money and realized that they would earn three times as much tonight as they had in previous months.

Those three men earn more than the Casino gamblers, which benefits Eloise as well. On the other hand, Diana will be the recipient of this glitz.

“Hey, Hunt! You still have five hideous stones.”

Hunt looked at Diana as he stopped counting the money.

“Why do I get the impression that you’re different, Ms. Rodriguez?” Hunt inquired.

Diana scowled. “How different?”

“I heard you were in a car accident about a month ago...”

“Yes, indeed. I nearly died. Fortunately, heaven gave me another chance and gave me a new life,” Diana replied, lightly smiling.

Hunt nodded. “Uhm, but there’s an old saying that when a person closes the ghost door, his or her various personality changes drastically, and I believe... you are this type of person.”

Diana was stunned, but she didn’t show it. Instead, she smiled brightly and laughed softly. “Hunt, I am still me. I haven’t changed,” she replied.

Hunt scowled. He pondered it for a moment, then shrugged his shoulders and moved on.

Diana swept her gaze over the five stones that had gone unnoticed and wondered in her heart... Why does it appear that she was drawn to these five stones?

“Hey, Hunt, it appears you dislike those five stones. I might as well buy them,” Diana reasoned.

Hunt’s brow furrowed. “They’re not worth anything. Why do you want to purchase them? They’re hideous.”

“Lady Eloise, you can take them if you like,” Gunner slapped Hunt on the shoulder.

Diana laughed. “Great. Gunner, you’re a natural businessman.”

“Well, even if it isn’t perfect—”

“Because they’re ugly,” Hunt agreed.

Gunner locked his gaze on him. “I’m not speaking to you. Anyway,” he returned Diana’s gaze, “—imperfection shines differently.”

Diana nodded, her arms crossed in front of her chest. “How about the shipping cost?”

Gunner laughed. “You must be joking. Of course, it’s free,” he said as he waved his hand to summon the staff. “Please deliver these five stones to Lady Eloise’s office. They’re ugly, but they’re expensive, so take them with caution,” he said, tapping the man on the shoulder.

“Thank you, Gunner,” Diana said. She wasn’t sure why she bought them, but it appeared that the stones called to her... or Eloise?

“Didn’t those stones you purchased through your turf cause you a lot of trouble, Gunner?”

Gunner laughed and slammed his fist into Hunt’s back. “HAHA, you talked too much, dude,” he said awkwardly as he hit Hunt again.

Heinrich rubbed his chin and gazed at the crowd while his assistant stood beside him.

“Why doesn’t Ms. Rodriguez request a nice stone?” Logan inquired.

“She has a good eye,” Heinrich replied before getting up and leaving the room.

Logan quickly followed.

Diana’s heart thumped more comfortably after seeing Heinrich’s departure.

Diana grew tired of looking at nothing but stones and jades. She then directed Isabel to entertain the others while she returned to her office.

Back in her office, she took out the stone cutting tool from the bookcase’s bottom box.

Diana instills that thought in Eloise.

Eloise Rodriguez would buy stones privately to cut at home, and her technique was quite sophisticated.

She placed the tool on the coffee table and continued to examine the five stones in front of her, usually noticing that the stones in front of her were nothing out of the ordinary.

But, as she gathered her breath, the green in the stone slowly bloomed in front of her eyes, making her heart thump faster.

She subconsciously closed her eyes, then opened them after a few seconds to unveil gold silk jadeite inside!

Eloise had quietly gambled on the stone several times in her mind, and she did not appear like herself now.

So, what’s the matter with her?

She can’t wait to go to the bathroom to get a basin of water, aim at a stone, and start cutting it; the mood is ecstatic, and she gets even more thrilled as the stone’s outer layer falls off.

She gradually removed the outer layer of the stone, revealing a layer of fog-like green in front of her, and she quickly removed the stone cutter and carefully ground the coat of the last layer of stone with the grinder.

A half-pound of gold silk seeds appeared in front of her eyes as it slowly shed its coat. Diana set down the polishing tool and held it up to the light before washing it.

Her hands are slightly cold as she holds the green and shiny golden silk seeds.

Diana set the first piece of gold silk down and looked at the other four filled with gold wire seeds about the same size as the first, and the green stripe swam on it like a snake.

After a while... she suddenly felt a burning sensation in her ruby eyes, followed by a pinprick of pain.

Her eyes were hurting.

‘What’s going on?’ She pondered.
