The Awakening

" Wake up brother! " I can hear the lovely voice of my sister.

"Give me another five minutes. " I said as I covered my head with a pillow. She always comes to wake me up every single morning because I tend to sleep a lot.

" Don't you dare to sleep again! " She said angrily while taking the pillow.

" Please si... " Before I could finish the sentence, the pillow hit me in the face and I fall from the bed.

* Thud *

" Come on brother, mom is waiting for us. " She said with a big smile. She has the most charming smile in the world but when I see her pale skin, I grab my fists in fury until blood starts coming out.

Two years ago, she started coughing up blood every month and her hue turned pale. The doctor said that she couldn't live past twenty and that each year the disease will get worse.

I feel powerless because I can't change anything and the only way to cure my sister is behind the door. In the last few years, I trained like a madman whenever I had free time, and my resolution to enter the Door grew every day.

I always help the village guards with their chores and sometimes they let me spar against them. Every time that I spar with someone I try to memorize their martial art because only the guards have the right to learn martial arts.

I dressed in a pair of long pants and a short-sleeved shirt and tied my hair in a ponytail before heading to the kitchen.

" Good morning mom " I can see my mother cooking some eggs while speaking with my sister about my Awakening test.

My mother has long blue hair and a pair of beautiful green eyes. I can always see a smile on her lips.

" Yami, why did you come late again yesterday? " She looked at me with an angry expression but I could see the concern in her eyes.

" Sorry mom, I was playing with Thomas and the others outside the village! " I told her a little lie because if she knew the truth she probably would kill me.

" Hey brother, do you have any emotions for today? " The eyes of my sister were full of affection and a little bit of curiosity.

My sister has always been forced to stay at home due to illness. When we were little I often read her stories about the outside world because her biggest dream is to be able to travel and visit every place in the world. One day I will help her achieve this dream.

" I'm very excited! " I've waited so long for this day to come.

" James let's go! " I can hear the breathy voice of Thomas.

"I have to go! " I picked up a pancake as I sprinted towards the door.

" Hi buddy, what happened? " Thomas's body was full of sweat as if he had just run a marathon.

Thomas is my best friend, the first time when we met was when I saved him from a bunch of kids who were bullying him and we have become best friends ever since.

" The son of the chief is going to participate in the Awakening! " He said with an incredulous voice.

His name is Marco and he is the hope of the village. The chief of the village invested a lot of time and resources in making him stronger. He has the highest probability of awakening the YRA among us.

If Marco joins the Academy, the capital will invest more resources in our village. That's why everyone see him as a hero.

" Let's go! " I said as I made my way to the Awakening edifice with Thomas.

" So big! " What greeted me was a huge building that was protected by ten guards.

" Let's go! " I said walking quickly towards the building.

Inside there is a large hall with a dozen children scattered in groups who are talking to each other.

" ATTENTION! " I heard a powerful voice coming from the entrance.
