Chapter 13 - Rescue mission

Klyde secretly began looking into the mysterious disappearances, knowing that those who had been after them had some sort of involvement. He didn't want Maddy to know this time as he knew the risk of having her involved, so he did everything he could to keep it from her, for her sake. He pulled up a map and started dotting all the locations where kids went missing and looking for any possible connection.

"Merticorp" Klyde thought, "each location has a building owned by Merticorp." He then began hacking security cameras around each location and ran facial recognition on one of the kidnappers that had been caught on camera and, sure enough, they were an employee of Merticorp. He then hacked into Merticorp's private system and began looking for clues as to where they could have taken the kidnapped children.

He searched for hours but found nothing, until he noticed that some vehicles owned by the company but not labelled with the company logo often exit the city, and scheduled to do so to and from what looked like just a patch of trees and bush. "Bingo."

The plan was simple, sneak to the property, find an entrance, release all the captives and beat up anyone who gets in the way, bit of an arrogant plan but it was the best he had. However that plan would soon have to change.

Klyde walked out into the living space where Maddy's mother was sitting on the couch. "Um, where's Maddy?" He asked as he looked around for her. "Oh she went shopping." was her response. "You let her, go shopping, in the middle of a kidnapping spree and after the 2 of us being chased and captured by multiple people?" concern expressed on his face as he spoke. "I- oh when you put it that way it does sound bad."

Klyde ran out to check the shops but to no avail. And to make things better, there was a Merticorp building right next to it, and a creepy alley where there were signs of a struggle. "No.." He said with pain in his voice, then rage filled his body as he punched the brick wall with a crack.

He returned home, expressing no emotion whatsoever as he tended to his wounded hand, "They got her. and I'm going to get her back." and with that he went to his room and began preparation and improving his plan for guaranteed success, part of said plan included tipping off the cops.

And so the mission began that night. He had just bought a motor bike for such occasions (though excused it to joyride on it), so he geared up, hopped on and was off. The cops had been tipped and he was on his way to rescue from the inside. As he got close to the destination he ditches the bike, hiding it in a bush and such over to the property, being very cautious of any hidden cameras. He couldn't access them without connecting directly to the system through a plug as they had a separate system from the company. Took him 20 minutes to find an entrance, whatever this facility was it was well hidden, for reasons soon to be found out.

The vent was a bit of a tight squeeze but it was big enough so slide through quickly, it ended in a storage room. "No turning back." he thought to himself as he peaked through the door. screams echoed through the hallway. After watching a couple patrollers walk by Klyde began to follow the screaming down the hallway. as he walked he came across door after door, some were bathrooms, others accommodation and some were filled with science equipment. "What is this place." He thought to himself. the screaming had halted but he found the source, he found a girl strapped to a table with two to three doctor-like scientist looking dudes poking the now unconscious body with needles and had some strangely coloured gas flowing into the girls mouth through a tube.

He stood watching for a short moment then continued to the next room, in which was not a room but a hallway full of what could only be holding cells lining the walls. "What the heck?" He thought. He then heard footsteps approaching behind and ducked into the nearest hiding spot.

"Where we putting this one again?" One man said, "Cell 35." Said another. "Ohhhh, wait, wasn't that cell taken by some Chinese girl?" said the first man "Was, she was too weak, didn't make it." said the second man with a laugh. "The hell's wrong with this place." Klyde thought, slowly being filled with more anger. "All done, what's this one's name again?" "Uh, Amanda Langhart I think, but she'll just be known as number 106 from now on." "Ah so another rich kid, we seem to have alot of them along this side." " No kiddin', boss considers 'em most desirable for his testing." "huh, can't think why, the only difference between them and the regs is the money." "Well, the docs say otherwise but who know for certain. All I know is that girl Maddy was his most wanted target."

Their voices and footsteps faded and Klyde took that as an opportunity to slip to an output socket where he plugged in and got to work. he hacked the camera and logs, downloaded all the data and messed with the cameras. He smirked at how easy it was and began unlocking all the doors. Maddy could be heard weakly calling out. "S-someone there.? h-help.." He ran until he came to her cell and found her on the floor, trying to pull herself up, she looked pale and tired. "What's they do to you?" Klyde whispered in horror. He was shocked at how much damage they had done to her in just one day. he picked her up and helped her get on his back and he moved quickly on to the next hallway. everyone began following him and the alarms started blaring, the people started to panic but Klyde merely held up a hand to get everyones and led them on.

A line of guards approached from in front, "crap, just what I needed..." Klyde whispered sarcastically under his breath. The faint sound of police and ambulance sirens came into earshot as the guards came within attack range. Klyde sprung into the air spinning, knocking the weapons out of the men's hands, then began beating up all of them with his feet as the massive swarm of teenagers continued on. Klyde finished his fight quickly and caught up with the group. getting ahead they emerged from the facility into an onslaught between guard's and FBI. Klyde led them around safely and they were cared for by ambulances, paramedics, nurses and officers. "alright who've we got here?" said one officer, "we're taking numbers and names now but I think every missing teen from over the last month sort from about 10 of them." "you, mysterious dark covering, outfitted guy, any idea what happened to the other 10?" "They killed them." Klyde said in a distorted voice. "I see, any proof of this?" "Yes, I have the security footage, everything you need is on this USB." Klyde said as he handed the officer the USB. "Thank you, mysterious vigilante." Klyde have a slight nod then disappeared into the night.

Klyde met with the ambulance carrying Maddy at the hospital, accompanying them to the emergency wing. She remained unconcious till just after mid-day. "Klyde?" "I'm here Maddy, you ok?" "Um, yeah. just dizzy and drained mostly." "You remember much?" "Yeah... they injected me with something but I don't know what, it was kinda greenish." "The doctors are looking into that already, they did a blood test and found some abnormalities that they wanna clarify so that they can find a cure if needed. No need to worry though, you're recovering and every other aspect of you was all clear so the doctors aren't too worried." "Are, you worried?" "I- Why are you asking me that?" "Because I wanna know." He sighs, "well, yes, sort of." "What's that supposed to mean?" "I just, want you to be getting the best possible care you can." "Aww you're so sweet Klyde she said, her eyes bright, Klyde couldn't help but smile a little.
