HANDS

As they hugged each other, they didn't notice the displeasure that flashed in Tang Meixue's eyes. When the two separated, the displeasure in Meixue's eyes also disappeared. As if it was never even there.

"How did you know I'm coming back?"

"Auntie mentioned to my mom that you were coming back...so we came to fetch you." Li Jun said.

In reality, he was afraid that Yu Yan's parents will forget to fetch her that is why he went out of his way to get her.

Growing up in their world, he knew how busy their parents could be. They won't even spare them anytime of the day sometimes, so children like them tend to stick together and support one another. This thought made Li Jun frown.

Families in the high society are few, some are friends and some are enemies. In their case, their family have been friends for as long as they can remember. And in their situation, they're brought up together so that someday, they could marry one another and connect the two families together. However, nothing was set in stone, and ever since it was mentioned before, it was never mentioned again.

That is why, Li Jun never thought of it again. What he didn't know was, Yu Yan kept it dearly in her heart. For her, he was her fiancé. The prince charming that was always by her side and supporting her. The person who spoiled her and stayed with her no matter the occasion. The perfect man. And in order to match him, all she could do was go abroad and be the best.

"Don't joke Jun. I know they forgot" she laughed. Funny how what she said should make her sad but she is happy.

Now that she became the best, she still felt like she couldn't be of match to him. Looking at him now, gone was they boy with foolish smile. The naughty boy with twinkling eyes, as if curious at whatever life has to offer. Replaced that boy is the man in front of her. Though she could sense some familiarity, she felt like this is a man she do not know.

The only thing that eased her mind was the thought they have all the time in the world to get to know each other once again.

"Thank you for fetching me." Yu Yan smiled. She knows that if he didn't fetch her, she might already be flagging a cab to get home. How great was her parents to forget her arrival was today? They didn't even send a chauffeur to fetch her. Yu Yan smiled bitterly just by thinking about it.

"Don't smile like that, I'm sure they're just too busy. They didn't mean to forget." Li Jun comforted her but they both know these were all empty words.

Her parents have always been resentful with her being born as a girl instead of a boy that will inherit their family line. Not to mention her love for science and medicine, they thought it was improper for a lady to do those. Good thing she was interested with the piano as a child so that at least placated them.

"Come on, let's get you out of here." Li Jun said. "I'll bring you to your favourite restaurant so cheer up." He said while looking at her tenderly, as if if he says the wrong words, she might cry.

"Don't worry, I'm not that much of a crybaby anymore. You don't need to worry about me ruining your dress shirt because of my snot. Plus I'm already this old, I'm used to it." she said while sadness flooded her. But looking at how Li Jun's face crunched up at the mention of her snot, she can't help but laugh at his reaction. And just like how fast the sadness came, it all vanished because of him.

"Poor you, to have to take care of me." as she patted him in the shoulders.

She then smiled at him brightly. How can she not fall for him? He was like the sunshine in her rainy days. The one who could pull her back in the midst of sadness. Or maybe she spoke too soon. Just as she was going to hook her arms in his just like how she always did in the past, Tang Meixue held Li Jun's hand.
