Chapter 76 - Human

---Three weeks later---

In the wasteland,

Three weeks had passed since Lev and the others continued their journey. During these three weeks, Iroha had already adjusted and was already open with them, especially to Shio and Sia. The three have completely created a friendship upon being together and so the awkwardness was completely gone.

"Sia. Shio. Iroha. We will probably arrive there later at night." Lev seriously said while looking towards a sort of wall in the distance. They should have arrived there a little earlier, but he didn't do so since he wasn't just traveling, he was also training at the same time.

Hearing Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha also looked at the towering wall with different expressions on their faces, Shio being excited and curious while Iroha was worried and nervous.

Following that, the three then rested for a while before continuing again and decided not to stop until they arrived after seeing no Aragami following them which is to be expected since they might have been wiped out by the people living inside.

---Night---

In the operating hall,

"You're late." An attractive woman with mid-back length black hair that has bangs that cover the right side of her face with light green eyes said towards the person who just arrived in the hall.

"I'm sorry, Defense Unit! Defense Unit!" A young girl with reddish-brown hair and dark brown eyes answered before heading towards a table and started talking to a microphone.

"Aragami infiltration confirmed in the outside settlement! Proceed immediately to Point B in Area A! I repeat! 2x." The girl said while looking towards her monitor nervously.

"How long 'til they get here?" The attractive woman asked while also looking at the big monitor seeing that the situation had become worse.

"They should arrive here in a few seconds." The girl answered immediately fully knowing who she was referring to.

In the midst of their conversation, another person entered the room in shock after seeing what was happening through the monitor.

Suddenly, the young girl reported once again that another area of the base was under attack the attractive woman forgot about the person who just come in and immediately ordered her to put what was happening to the bigger monitor so she could see the situation.

Following that, the attractive woman then ordered again but moments later, the person who came in argued with her before he ran out of the room.

Somewhere in the wasteland,

Meanwhile, Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha were still driving the car before they could finally see that they were coming closer and closer to the wall.

"Master, I can hear sounds of fighting coming from there." Sia said while pointing her finger toward the wall.

Lev, however, had already noticed it before he smiled as he realized that they had come at bad yet good timing. Thinking about the situation inside, he then accelerated as he wanted to avoid some unnecessary deaths.

Inside the wall,

A teenage boy with dark blue spiky hair, solid back eyebrows, and light green eyes was swinging some kind of wood towards the Aragamis that surrounded him while protecting someone who was injured on his back.

The teenage boy tried to fight back but no matter what he did, he still got close to being killed until someone came to save him, and right after that, a helicopter then appeared in the place in which two persons jumped down while killing some Aragamis in the process.

Outside the wall,

This time, Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha were already in front of a tall wall while hearing the sounds of guns and roars inside. Lev had already recalled the car back to his inventory and told the others that they needed to climb.

Hearing Lev, Shio already leaped and sat on his shoulder while Sia and Iroha grabbed on his shoulder. Following this, Lev then summoned out a dagger and was about to throw it out when suddenly Iroha let go of her hand.

"I-I can't." Iroha suddenly said as the worries and nervousness consumed her and thought that she was not qualified to enter such a place.

"I told you, didn't I? We'll cover you up." Lev said before holding onto her hand as he threw the dagger above. Following this, with the activation of Flying Thunder God Technique, they then vanished in the place.

At the top of the wall,

Landing on top of the wall, Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha saw the chaos that was happening inside. Fires were all over the place, houses were destroyed, Aragamis were running around hunting humans, while some people could be seen fighting back with unique weapons in their hands.

Shio, on Lev's shoulder, jumped down on the floor while looking at the place while Sia and Iroha were also doing the same. The latter could not help but clench her fist while looking at what was happening since she had experienced such a thing a while back.

"Shio, from now on, refrain from using your weapon unless I tell you so." Lev ordered as he didn't want anyone to know about Shio's identity, especially in this place. He doesn't know if they could bypass the identification process but he felt like it might work in their favor.

Shio looked at Lev with confusion, but she still nodded since she also didn't want to fight. She then just continued looking below again as this was the first time she saw that many people.

Meanwhile, Lev looked towards a certain location and there he saw several people fighting an Aragami that looked like a tiger. He looked at them for a while before summoning out Infinity.

'This is my first time seeing a Large Type Aragami. I wonder if I could take it down with my level now.' Lev thought before he took a stance of preparing to throw something. He looked seriously at the Aragami before using all his strength and throwing Infinity at such a distance.

....woshh…

With great speed, Infinity traveled without hindrance but when it was about to hit the Aragami, Lev suddenly appeared right beside it with his hand bulging with powers as he looked at the Aragami.

Appearing right above the Aragami, Lev immediately held Infinity back to his hand and so threw it out above before he unleashed the built-up power in his arm right at the head of the Aragami. He said, "5 Ren Kugi Punch."

…Boom...

..Boom…Boom…Boom….Boom…

Following that, four consecutive loud sounds could be heard from which the Aragami plummeted down to the ground however, it hasn't died yet seeing it getting back once again though it was wailing in pain.

"So sturdy." Lev muttered feeling how hard the outer skin of the Aragami but he had already expected it as he vanished again and appeared beside Infinity seeing him now in the sky. Trying to make use of the time, he then started building up power again all the while he was falling down.

On the other hand, the people below who were fighting the Vajra were surprised by the sudden turn of events and could only move back before seeing the Vajra standing again but suddenly a man fell from the sky once more and this time, they saw it clear how he throws out a punch.

…Boom...

…Boom…Boom…Boom….Boom…

Hearing and seeing the notification, Lev then smiled wryly. He was now on top of its dead body and used Bansho Ten'in to get ahold of the core that it had. Following this, he then just recalled Infinity before looking at the people around looking at him with awe and wary.

Office headquarters,

After all the Aragamis were outside and calmed down the people, Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha could be found inside an office upon being invited by three other people in front seriously looking at them.

On the right side, a man was wearing a Japanese colorful yukata with a black waistcoat, white gloves, and sandals. He had a youthful appearance with short dark gray hair and his eyes were always closed.

On the left side, an attractive woman with mid-back-length black hair was quietly looking at them.

In the middle, on the other hand, was a handsome man with blonde hair and silver eyes who could be seen observing Lev, Sia, Shio, and Iroha especially Lev after seeing the video of him killing a Vajra with an unknown yet powerful punch.

After a moment of silence, the blonde-haired man took the initiative to introduce himself first.

"I'm Johannes von Schiksal, the director of Fenrir Far East Branch. Nice meeting you." Johannes greeted as he could tell that Lev was extraordinary after seeing how calm he was even in this situation. Also, the fact that he has shown such power was something he took an interest in.

The other two also introduced themselves. The woman's name was Tsubaki Amamiya while the other man was Paylor Sasaki. With that, they then just let Johannes do the talking as they were just there to observe Lev's group.

"I'm Lev Hendrix, and this is Sia, Shio, and Iroha, my companions. Nice meeting you also." Lev replied and introduced themselves while looking back at Johannes.

"First of all, I would like to thank you for subjugating the Vajra. May I know which branch you four came from?" Johannes initiates the conversation and wants to know more about Lev thinking that they must have come from a secret unit of some other branch.

"Well, even if I don't kill it, I know that someone will, and for your question, that would be a secret for now." Lev answered trying not to give more information about themselves making their identity as mysterious as possible.

Johannes, Sasaki, and Amamiya flinched after hearing his reply and could only think that they were people hard to deal with. They could not also use force since they also think of a possibility that may have come from the higher-ups.

"It can't be helped then. If it's alright to ask, are you human? Or are you still human?" Johannes directly asked. Throughout his life, he has never met someone like Lev who could kill a Vajra with pure strength which is very unscientific given that he and the other have tried experimenting one before and even until now.

"Of course, I am." Lev answered with a smile before giving himself a cut on his hand however, in an instant, it healed itself leaving behind a trace of blood. His smile then was gone as he said, "O-Or maybe not. Haha."

Johannes, Tsubaki, and Sasaki all witnessed such a thing which made their eyes pop out from surprise. Such regenerative power was completely unheard of, and they immediately looked at Lev with great curiosity and suspicion.

"Well, do you perhaps have a place to stay?" Seeing such a thing was already enough for Johannes. He then immediately asked another thing as he wanted the three of them to stay here for a while as a way to observe and know more about them.

"No, and so, I would also like to stay here if you will allow. Don't worry as we won't be living here for free. I can tell that those Aragamis are giving you a hard time so I would like to work related to killing them or something like that." Lev causally replied as he knew that they wouldn't let him go easily after witnessing what he did to the Vajra and what he just showed them. He knew for sure that they must be trying to let him stay here to observe him and try to get information about them.

"That would be great. Major Amamiya, please give these three a room in the headquarters." Johannes immediately ordered Amamiya while smiling after hearing that Lev would like to stay here which is more convenient.

"Sia, Shio, Iroha, and Lev. Welcome again to Fenrir Far East Branch, humankind's last fortress of defense." Johannes said before he stood up and offered his hand for a handshake.

Following this, Lev then also replied back before he, Sia, Shio, and Iroha left the office together with Major Amamiya.

Inside a room,

Lev, Sia, and Shio were already in a room together given to them. Amamiya wanted to give them each room, but Sia and Shio told her that she would stay with Lev which Amamiya could only accept while Iroha's room was just beside them.

"Master, I think that Johannes guy was planning something." Sia suddenly said as she observed Johannes earlier and noticed some very small details on his face. Shio, on the other hand, was completely not interested in seeing her playing the tablet on the bed.

"Yeah. However, just let him be." Lev replied fully knowing about it because that's his nature as an antagonist of this world. However, if he really looked at it seriously, Johannes really isn't as bad as it looks since he was also saving humankind in a sense.

Following that, the three then just relaxed for a while before deciding to head to Iroha's room to see her situation.

Johannes's office,

"What do you think?" Johannes suddenly asked the two while thinking about Lev.

"I don't know what to say but I could tell that something was different about them, especially that man Lev. However, I also could not conclude that they might be ordered by the higher-ups to observe this place." Sasaki replied based on what he had observed about Lev in that little time.

Amamiya, on the other hand, just sits there listening to them without giving any thought to the matter.

"Hmmm, then what about his strength?" Johannes followed but this time was about Lev's ability. It was his first time seeing such unbelievable power and so he was very interested in it.

"From what I saw from the video, it really is unbelievable to the point that I doubt whether he is a human." Sasaki replied after watching Lev's battle against the Aragami and most especially his regenerative abilities.

"Unknown strength and regeneration ability. Interesting. I don't believe the higher-ups created such an experiment without telling us at all so I could partially conclude that he must be a wandering man in the wasteland." Johannes concluded while having a feeling that he just wanted to make them confused for a reason. Such power would greatly help humanity and he would not believe that the higher-ups would keep it a secret so it only leaves another possibility.

"Johannes, I think we should respect his privacy and observe him for the time being as I feel like it was not a good idea to pry into him, especially after seeing what he just did." Sasaki replied while thinking that despite Lev being amiable earlier, he could feel a sense of danger while being with him together like he was being stared at by an Aragami and not a human.

Johannes and Amamiya looked at him and thought of what he just said. Johannes ponders about it hard while weighing the consequences if Lev really is a dangerous entity. He was weighing the cons and pros of taking him away for research by force. However, thinking about it carefully, he thought of waiting for a while and observed him just like what Sasaki said as he all had the time since Lev decided to stay in this place.

"Though I was also curious about him. I think it would be appropriate to wait for him to get used to this place first and slowly unearth some information." Sasaki followed as no matter how he denied it, he was really curious about Lev and badly wanted to take a look at him despite being the head of Oracle technology development, a department that focuses on developing weapons.

Following that, their meeting lasted for a while before it finally ended. Sasaki already left while Amamiya was ordered to stay as Johannes wanted to say something.

"Amamiya, you should know how important this is. Try talking and learn more about him. If things come to worst, then use whatever method you can think of." Johannes said while standing as he looked at the picture hanging on the wall.

"Yes, sir." Amamiya answered.

"Since he chose to stay here, I think it would be better to place him temporarily in the 1st unit and let your brother also do the work." Johannes followed before he dismissed Amamiya and sat alone in the room while thinking something in his head.
