The Myth of Chessie

I was searching the ocean floor, moving every couple paces, to see the spaces in front of me. The water was very dirty and hard to see through, so I tried to look as thoroughly as I could. I knew I needed to look through both sections, so I picked up the pace. My tank was still pretty full, and I wasn't that far from the surface.

Once I finished searching my section, I grazed over the ocean floor into Brooke's.The waters weren't getting any shallower, I scraped across the bottom of the sea floor, running my hands around for any sign of life. I already had no hope, but now I knew it was just wasting my time. The water wasn't getting any clearer, and the sun was starting to dip down. I decided I was done searching, and starting swimming to the top of the waters.

I could hear someone swimming next to me, and I suspected one of the guys had also finished, and were now going to the top.

I was almost at the surface when the swimming next to me, started plummeting back downwards into the water. I saw one of the instructors talking to Brooke, and not paying attention.

Against my better judgement, with my tank getting lower, I turned back into the depths of the water, and swam down as far as I could. My ears popped and ached.

When I reached the very bottom where one of the guys had pulled back down, I saw nothing. The sun was even lower now, if I didn't go up soon the sun would be gone completely and I would have a hard time seeing.

I frantically rushed my hands along the bottom of the water, and could hear distant yells of the instructors. At first I wasn't sure, but then I realised. They were yelling my name. They were all already at the top.

And I was going to drown.

I started pulling at the water, trying to go up faster, and faster but something was keeping me down. My ankle was stuck on something slimy and eel-like.  I looked down, pulling on my leg other get whatever was keeping me down to loosen. I started kicking my feet around, and my tank got emptier. I could feel the losing of oxygen in my throat. With my free leg I kicked the slimy thing.  It loosened, and I let out a frantic, yelp.

A shadow crossed in front of me. It was long and lengthy. I opened my mouth to scream, then remembered my low oxygen. Instead, I froze, and then slowly started swimming. The slimy thing just stayed there, unmoving. I was more then freaked out now, and my oxygen was definitely to low. I wasn't sure how far away the surface was, but I knew it couldn't be far. I saw a glimpse of the sunset. My eyes stung and my ears felt like they were on fire. Finally, I broke the surface. I pulled off my mask, taking in a huge breath. I coughed, and choked.

Everyone on the boat rushed to as close as the could get to me, and grabbed my arm to pull me out.

"What the hell happened down there?" One of the guys gasped.

I was still struggling to breath as the dragged me onto the boat.

The sunset was beautiful.

"I-i don't know, something uh slimy and long like a water snake grabbed my ankle and I couldn't breath and-" A loud sound rippled the waters. Everyone looked to see a long lengthy body dip out of the water, then crash back down.

"Chessie," Jess breathed.

"Oh my god- oh my-" Brooke started, but I interrupted her,

"Your saying the Loch Ness Monster's cousin almost killed me!" I screamed, I couldn't believe my eyes.

We were in way to deep.
