Cost of Breakthroughs

Bang. Bang. Bang. A sound pierced through my ears. My eyes flew open, and I sat up in the bed. It was rustled and messy.

"What the hell are you doing?!" Brooke yelled out as she stumbled toward the door of the cabin. I followed her out. Standing at the kitchen counter was Caden, with two pots in hand.

"Finally. Been trying to get you awake forever," He said nonchalantly.

"That's it. You people are insane. Your going to get us all killed. Or worse, like Olivia. Now she just screams in her sleep for help. But I'm guessing you never help her," Brooke stated. I looked to her, my eyes wide. "O- my gosh I'm sorry Olivia, I so didn't think that through."

Jess was sitting, staring into the ocean with sheets of paper in her hand. When she heard the door closed, she looked to me.

"I'm sorry about yesterday. We aren't terrible people. I promise," She said, her mouth in a tight line. "It's just, our career has basically brought up a whole lot of nothing, and yesterday was a huge breakthrough. I'm sorry it was at your cost."

I was so tired of people feeling sorry to me already. "It's fine," I said quickly, and hardly. "What's on the paper?"

"The next thing we're looking for. Now that we've got our video of Chessie, there isn't much for us to do here anymore."

"Where are you dragging us to next," I glared.

She didn't notice, looking back to her page. "British Columbia,"
