“How did you know? It doesn’t matter. You’re here.” Taking a fistful of Alatus’s mane, Crevyn swung up onto the winged beast’s back and clung on tightly. A moment later, they were in the air. Maybe there’s still time to stop Garvit.

Within minutes they were over the college. Looking down, Crevyn saw that all the pupils were in tiered seats set up alongside the courtyard’s walls. In the center were the judges, Madam Audra, and Garvit.

As the Pegasus slowly descended, Crevyn tried to ignore that everyone was staring at him. He hated being the center of attention, but this was probably the most dramatic entrance any of the students had ever seen.

Once they’d landed, Alatus knelt to make it easy for Crevyn to dismount, and a shocked murmur rippled around those gathered.
