Chapter 8

“You aren’t in a position to make demands.” Garvit’s face darkened.

“No?” Crevyn pulled out the amphora and readied a stone in his hand. “If you don’t release the fox cub, I’ll smash it. I mean it, Garvit.”

“I believe you would.” Garvit nodded. “All right. Give me your solemn word that if I release this beast, you’ll throw me the amphora, fully intact, with its contents untouched.”

“I give you my word of honor that I will throw you the amphora as you demand, if you set the fox free.” Crevyn wouldn’t break his promise.

“Fine.” Garvit set the cub on the ground, but instead of running away, it gazed down at Crevyn.

“Go home. Find your mother. Go.” Crevyn ignored Garvit, focusing only on the cub which glanced up at Garvit, back down at Crevyn, and then ran.

“The amphora. Throw it up to me.” Garvit shouted down to Crevyn.

As he’d promised, Crevyn struggled to his feet, and tossed the amphora into Garvit’s outstretched hands.
