The very important date

As soon as Tom was clear of the metallic-colored robot, he pulled out the letter from the neat yellow envelope. He had to drop the package of wallpaper that he had bought in order to do that. In a rush of curiosity to know what the second clue might be, Tom began to read the words on the plain letter.

At the appropriate time , you must say a word

related to "open sesame" with your eyes closed

If you can't speak or close your eyes at the same

time , then you belong to the infirmary.

And as for the word related to "open sesame",

I can't tell you and never will. Examine

the first letter carefully and you'll find them.

Tom read the letter about three times and stuffed it in his pocket. His life was becoming darker with frustration. Yes, he loves puzzles, but these ones are way too disturbing and unclear. He picked up the package of what he bought and walked into the house with a mixture of wariness and intrusiveness.

Is there a word related to open sesame? Closed eyes? It's always like a dream, impossible dreams.

Things were just getting plain weird. Tugging on his package, Tom didn't bother to disturb his sister about his free gift from the store. There was much to think of; there was much to do. Maybe now Tom has decided to be an adult who settles the problems of life. With that, he just walked up to his room.

                                                ~

He got to dinner on time, after spending almost the whole day without lunch, which he wolfed down like a kid determined to eat every flavour of cake on his birthday before a sibling stole it first. He barely heard the jiggy conversations around the table and immediately excused himself as soon as he stuffed the last few bites of fried steak all into his mouth at once.

He leapt up the stairs, heading for his room and determined to finally put some major thought into figuring out the clues. Something about seeing a little metallic-colored robot appear out of nowhere made everything seem real. He had no idea why, how, or what he was doing, but he's now committed to the game.

Tom unfolded the letters from M.S., both the first and last clues. He placed them on his desk and directed the lamp at them, showing the dark typed words. He reread the first letter from M.S., which mostly seemed to be an introduction to set things up. The most recent message said the first letter would reveal the words related to "open sesame."

He'd get to say it on a special day, but he'd get to that later. One thing at a time.

The first clue obviously told him when the special day would be—the day he would solve the ultimate puzzle spelled out by the coming clues. He focused on the paragraph, reading it several times.

Mark your calendar, one week from the day before the day after the yesterday that comes three weeks before six months, from six weeks from now minus forty-nine days, plus five tomorrows and next week, it will happen. A day that could very well change the course of your life as you know it.

I hope to see you there, I must say.

As he read through it, he tried to visualize in his mind the stated time, periods, adding and subtracting as he went. But as soon as he arrives at the end, the words jumble together, creating a very large ball of confusion. He realised he needed to solve it like a math problem, breaking it into sections and finally getting to a point where everything would be added together.

He grabbed a pencil from his pencil-cup and drew a long line into threes, leaving a space as he assigned words to them. That way, it would be easy enough for him to solve the riddle using a logical method. This was a time of deepest confusion and on a dork of rough waves of the ocean, but to him, he thinks it's time the real fun started.

He began by attempting to decode the clue from start to finish, adding and subtracting time with each new phrase as it came into order. But he kept getting stuck in the middle of the paragraph because of the words "before" and "six weeks from now." The phrases appeared to divide the timeline into two parts, and he realized he needed to work around them rather than from the first to the last word.

About half an hour of a lot of erasing and rewriting. He copied the phrases and their assigned letters to different papers. Then, using an office-like calendar that was on his table, he penciled out the dates as he figured them out. After that, he used a paper tape to signify which months he worked on. When he finished, he leaned back in his chair and took a look:

Beginning date; Today, April 26.

      A. — 6 weeks from now = June 7

        B. — 6 months From A = October 7

      C. — the day before the day after the yesterday that comes three weeks before B = 3 weeks plus 1 day before B = 22 days before B = September 15

    D. — 1 week from C = September 22

     E. — D minus 49 days = August 4

     F. — E plus five tomorrows and a next week = E plus 12 days = August 16.

He looked at the math once again to make sure he'd done it right with no mistakes, and was ready to put away the calendar as he was satisfied with himself for what he had done. Immediately, something snapped in him. The first date? The beginning date. Tom slapped his head, "You idiot!" He has missed the most important part of the clue. The letter from M.S. gave the beginning date.

Beginning today (the fifteenth of April—in your

reality). I am sending out a sequence of special

messages and clues.

On the fifteenth of April, Tom erased all the prepared answers and resolved from the beginning. Placing each date and marking the calendar. Finally, he got a result. August 6.

Tom sat back and recalculated in his head. On August 6, something will happen, something related to the word "open sesame."

He commended whoever M.S. would be for setting up the cryptic code in a letter. They were sure good at how puzzles should be.

6th of August:

Tom became worried that the results were only ten days apart when the beginning dates had been off by eleven, but after looking at the calendar twice, he determined it had to do with September having thirty days.

He found out the very important date. He wrote down the date on the last page of the first clue and tore out the calendar, which he cello tapped on the white plain paper. After that, he got to the second clue, reading it all over again for work sake. His mind spun around thinking of what word would be related to "open sesame" Tom thought of checking the internet dictionary. Maybe the clause has something to do with English problems.

After an hour of staring at the second clue, reading the typed message, his brain exhausted, he gave up. He folded everything up together and stuck the stack in his desk drawer.

For the rest of the evening, Tom couldn't quit thinking about the first clue from the strange person, M.S. Something very important was going to occur on August 6 of that very year.

But then what?

                                              ~

Much later that night, after playing Dex, and collecting a much higher number of points this time than the other times he did play to win. He couldn't believe he got through three bosses in a day without even flinching, though he had a tough fight with the last boss before pulverising it to death. Tom had since then decided what techniques he would apply to the Star-world dungeon of the Lost Planet, which was the next area for his next mission. He would have gone to play it, but his mom wouldn't have liked to see him up because of a video game. Perhaps he'll even lose his game as a result of it. So he decided to go to bed.

In the middle of the night, flowing through a childish dream of him winning the most glamorous race with the heroes of Star Wars on his side, cheering wildly. Tom heard sounds again: first, a sparking sound, and a few minutes later, a metallic soft thud and the whrring sound of an automatic UFO. It was all coming from the side of the closet where the door was closed.

Something bumped at the side of the closet, which made Tom jump up, very, very awake.
