The Moon's Repentance

In which Kokushibo repents for his past mistakes..... In which Kokushibo reminiscences of times long past... In which Kokushibo finds out that he has looked down on nature a little too much..... In which Kokushibo is revealed to the existence of a certain Foundation.... In which Kokushibo somewhat regrets his current situation..... The extremely short chapters are done on purpose. It helps me retain my sanity, so five chapters would be equivalent to one real chapter. THIS IS A JOKE JUST SAYING. Don't expect this novel to have a plot. At all. I Update Once In A While....

Chapter 1

Kokushibo stood up. His long black hair fluttered in the wind. Strange. Had he not been on the ground, dead, in the Castle just moments before? What happened, did those demon slayers defeat the Lord Muzan?

What was this? He looked around, seemingly in an infinite black void. Kokushibo gripped the hilt of his katana, looking around somewhat cautiously.

This was no Blood Demon Art, nor was this some tangible space….

"Well, well, well….." He whipped around, but nothing was there. The ethereal voice continued on. "Kokishibo, Upper Moon One, otherwise known as Michikatsu Tsugikuni…."

"Who are you…?" Kokushibo slowly unsheathed his blade.

"It seems you have sinned quite a bit….. Over a thousand humans eaten, and your karma has descended into the infinite abyss..." The voice paused for a second. "Normally, I would just send you to purgatory, but... You actually have some redeeming qualities…."

Kokushibo's six eyes flickered around, to no avail. "What is this place?" He whispered.

"Oh, yes….. I forgot to tell you. This happens to be the "room" of judgment. Not much of a room…. But…. I did not name it. As you may be able to guess, I am, the "Judge". Suddenly, someone appeared right in front of him. A silhouette, seemingly.

The silhouette patted him on the shoulder. "Don't worry…. Though you are a sinful waste, you won't end up like your "Lord" Muzan, or that one silver-haired friend of yours, Doma... "

Kokushibo unsheathed his sword, flashing through the air, but it just passed right through, as if the silhouette was intangible.

"Dang, you guys should really control your temper... Demons…." The silhouette shrugged its shoulders, and its fingers snapped. Kokushibo slammed into the "ground", spitting out blood. "Anyway, do your regret anything in your life?"

Kokushibo looked up, gritting his teeth. He was completely helpless, knowing that this silhouette could kill him probably.

He thought of his brother. Despite all his hatred, envy, jealousy towards his brother, Kokushibo genuinely cared and loved for his brother. Quite the contradiction, to love and to hate….

"Well, how would it be, redo your whole entire life!" The silhouette paused. "That would be wonderful right? Well, you may have a chance if you sign up for this repentance plan!" Its ethereal voice laughed cheerfully, but to Kokushibo, it was sort of irritating. Suddenly, an old parchment suddenly appeared before him, with a poof. The silhouette paced around. "Read the stuff, and sign it if you want, otherwise, you'll just go straight to purgatory~"

This sounds like a threat...

"If you sign it, you will be sent somewhere with an objective, if you complete the objective, you get to go back in time, make amends and other things~~~" The silhouette whistled a little tune, even though it did not have a mouth.

Kokushibo read through, thinking…..

If he were to redo everything….. Wou-

"Hurry up! I have a busy schedule….. Or do you want to be sent straight to purgatory?" That irritating voice really made Kokushibo feel a little angry…..

"......Yes, I accept," Kokushibo spoke. He would do many things in order to redo everything….

"Ya know, you are oddly sentimental, but that comes with being a demon I guess…." Was the last thing Kokushibo heard before his vision started to fade….

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

"Tweet! Tweet! Tweet!" The sound of birds overhead was the first thing that greeted him as he got up. Kokushibo blinked his many eyes. He was alive. What seemed like just moments ago, he, Upper Moon 1, was cut down by the combined effort of the Hashira.

Getting up, his senses gradually adjusted.

He was lying in long grass, by the side of a river. Kokushibo stood up, his long black hair flowing in the wind.

The world….. Felt different. The air was stuffier and more polluted, and his previous thirst for human flesh was not present. The sun overhead did not scar him somehow… Kokushibo was sort of uneasy.

So, this was his repentance…. Whatever it was, Kokushibo would complete it.

Kokushibo stood there solemnly, looking out at the wide and ice-cold river.

It was most likely late winter, as melting ice surrounded the river bank.

Behind him, was a grove of trees and plants, and Kokushibo could vaguely see figures, fish most likely, darting through the water.

They were pretty big, nothing like he had seen in all his years.

Scanning the water, that fish seemed to habitat the whole river….

"Sad is it not?"

Kokushibo spun around, unsheathing his sword once again.

Behind him, stood an old man, with a long mangily beard. The geezer wore a red fisherman's cap and green boots. Well, of course, Kokushibo was not familiar with the attire of the current era so he felt the man was sort of eccentric.

"The 'Judge' is pretty weird….. But he is efficient so no one really complains." The old man walked to Kokushibo's side, staring out at the water sadly. "Humanity….. Though full of blessings, I'd say the amount of curses outway their good traits... The name is Ygrsdrail, the World Tree….."

Kokushibo stared. The old man was truly unfathomable, it felt like he was staring into a wild jungle, terrifying and unpredictable. "Repentance..." They stared out into the constantly raging water silently.

"Anyway, I apologize for the pause. You're here as a part of that Repentance Plan the "Judge" came up with. You will be dealing with many things, one of which….. Is this." The Old Man snapped his finger, and long tendrils grew out of fingers, grasping one of the fish at an inhuman speed. "Asian Carp. In its home in China and parts of Asia, not much of a problem, but when it was brought forth to the Americas by people hoping it would deal with an excessive amount of algae and such, many quite terrible things occurred."

Kokushibo blinked, not expecting a talk about fish. He thought that he would be sent to purge or rid the world of something of that sort.

"Yes, you are going to purge the world, well this continent of this filth….." the old man continued on, "It is an invasive species or a creature that causes lots of environmental harm to an area. The efforts of those mere petty mortals, though some out of the good of heart, are not enough."

"So, my goal is to…." Kokushibo was completely dumbfounded.

"Yup, your first mission is to rid the Mississippi River of these carps….." Then, the old man thought for a moment. "Also, I'll give you some information, and a handy ability to hide your face, which would probably unnerve quite a few mortals."

Yggdrasil snapped his fingers, and suddenly, something entered his head. A lot of information and memories were soon digested within…

"Muzan really did not set his sights anywhere else besides Japan….." Kokushibo muttered thoughtfully. At this point, all he wanted, was to fulfill all his regrets and worries.

As someone who had experienced hundreds of years, changing his mind was actually pretty surprising. Now, in his heart, Muzan was just a past regret he had.

From the information, Kokushibo could now speak quite many languages and knew of many other things, animal species, climate change, and so on.

"Have you adjusted? Well, have fun!" Yggdrasil disappeared into the ground, leaving behind his red fisherman's cap.

Kokushibo sneered. It was just a few thousand fish…. Right?
