The Labyrinth of Daedalus

"What the fuck?"

Looking at my stats I couldn't help but say my thoughts out loud. Laura and Yoimiya heard me curse and looked at me their faces puzzled.

"Luke you okay?"

"Un, is something wrong?"

Seeing their concerned faces, my heart nearly melted from their cuteness. I looked down and smiled.

"Yeah I'm fine, I'm just surprised by my stats. Do you guys have any titles?"

Another puzzled look was on their face as they rechecked their stats. Laura turned toward me her face still looking at the screen and said.

"Nothing, I don't even have skills let alone titles."

"Same, me too."

At that point, I already guess, that I'm somewhat special. Recalling all the dreams I had it just hit me that maybe those dreams weren't really dreams.

I turned my gaze toward them again and asked them what their stats look like.

"Here, this is what mine says."

"…"

I stood there my expression blank. Looking at her screen, it seems like this is what a normal individual's stats would look like.

"Do you want to look at mine as well?"

Yoimiya tugged on my shirt her cute fingers pinching the hems.

"Oh, please."

"Un."

I placed my hand on my head to the revelation of her stats. I looked at her once more and asked.

"Miya, do you see anything else?"

She seemed flustered by the nickname I called her, but she quickly answered me.

"No, all I see is my class which is an alchemist, and my stats."

I turned toward Laura and asked her to open up her status again. I didn't realize it but as soon as I focused my eyes a bit, my pupils began to glow orange. Soon her stats completely changed.

It seems their stats aren't hidden, but instead, I'm looking at their potential. Sort of like a path for them to take for their optimal form.

With that guess in mind, I began looking at everyone else's stats. Taking a quick glance at Eve, Kevin, and others in my class. And to my surprise, everyone also had great potential. I took another look at mine, this time focusing more on my eyes.

Wait how am I level 10 already? Hmm, It seems that my titles also cleared up, but there are still some hidden. Maybe I need to increase my skill or just get stronger in general. An interesting set of words caught my attention.

"Summons?"

Before I can look into my stats any further Seph snapped her fingers and a large portal appeared in the middle.

Gasps and exclamations can be heard as we watch the portal swirl around like a tornado.

"May I have your attention please?"

Seph gathered our attention once more her voice steady and commanding.

"This portal will lead you inside Daedalus' Labyrinth. A dungeon where your skills and talent are tested to their limits. After the trials, you'll be allowed access to the real world of Rath'Nia."

As soon as she finished hands began to raise.

"Yes? What is your question, Samantha."

A blonde girl outside of my class raised her hand shyly.

"Oh, umm, what are the trials? Are we getting tested physically or is it like a written exam?"

Her question was pretty reasonable, most of the people here are more of the scholar type, and doing something physical can be taxing for some. I think at least a third of us here are athletes including me.

"Unfortunately not. The trials consist of you going as a group and working together to overcome them."

Samantha's expression seemed to darken as she hung her head low.

After her, was another hand from the crowd raised, a tall black man with an athletic body.

"What if we want to leave? I understand that we are needed to fight the abyss monsters, but do we have a choice? I know I'm being selfish, but if it were to come to I would want to spend it with my family."

His words made many who were excited calm down and think more about what they were getting themselves into. Some also started raising their hands, their faces anxious and fearful.

I took a glance at Seph a wry smile on her lips fully understanding their reasons for not wanting to fight.

"Yes, you are able to go back. Your memories will be erased of ever coming here, and you'll be able to go back to your daily life. Abilities gained in Rath'Nia will disappear like you never even came here and you will never be invited back. Just simply wish to go back right now and you will do so."

A sigh of relief came from their lips. Although their worries are reasonable I can't help but think of them as cowardly.

But to my surprise, everyone stayed. A certainty I would not have been able to guess.

"If we can freely go back home, then I suppose staying here to fight would be better than doing nothing."

The man had a warrior's smile on his lips, his determination inspiring those around him. A war cry came from his class as they thumped their chest proudly.

Seph had tears forming in her eyes, it seemed she also didn't think anyone would want to stay.

"Thank you. Thank you for staying."

Everyone's mood was elevated, knowing they can come back whenever was a game changer in their mentality.

For one final hurrah, Seph puffed her chest out and threw her hands in the air her mouth shouting.

"Then let the trials begin!"
