Chapter 20

The figure stepped out for the shadows and stepped into the light provided by the moon. Marie stepped backwards instinctively. The figure moved closer and now Marie could see that it was young female Lycan.

"You're the new queen, huh?" Her tone was laced with bitterness, her stance confrontational.

Marie's instincts were to run but she knew she was now the Queen of this pack and she could not show weakness. "Yes, that is me"

The young Lycan's lips curled into a sneer. "Well, listen up. You might have Blake wrapped around your finger, but this is our world. You don't belong here. Blake deserves better than a useless frail human" She spat with hatred and venom.

Marie's heart raced, her fears coming true in front of her. She had known deep down the pack would not accept her as a weak human. She needed to stay strong in this moment. "Your king is my fated mate" Marie tried to sound strong but her voice gave away her true feelings. Marie allowed herself to lift her gaze and for the first time saw how much smaller than the Lycan she was. She knew she did not stand a chance should this encounter turn violent.

The young Lycan's eyes flashed with jealousy at Marie's words. "He will not keep you around once he comes to his senses and realizes how useless you are" She Spat. "He needs a proper Queen by his side and he will soon come to know that" The Lycan moved forward and lunged at Marie knocking her down the small embankment that led to the edge of the lake. Marie had never felt force like it. As she fell her arms and legs found every jagged sharp edge of rock and as she came to a stop her head collided with the edge of a rock. Pain shot through her entire body, and she could feel the warmth of blood on her skin.

The young Lycan stood over her, her expression triumphant as she laughed. "See just useless, Just leave already and save yourself the embarrassment of him rejecting your sorry pathetic ass. If you don't, next time I will do more than push you" then she disappeared again into the shadows from where she came.

The fear rose further and further in Marie's Chest until it threatened to consume her. She raised her hands to head and felt the blood pouring from a gash on her forehead. Her legs were covered in scratches but her arms were the worst. Multiple deep cuts covered her arms. The beautiful dress she wore now ripped and covered in her blood. Tears fell freely from Marie's eyes. The urge to run pack to the pack house and towards her King and mate was strong but Marie knew the Lycan who had just attacked her was right. Blake would see her for what she truly was. A Weak pathetic human who could not go one day without being attacked. She forced herself to stand despite the pain that was now wracking through her entire body and her heart was pounding. She had to get away. She needed to go home.

Marie knew she could not hop on a plane and return home that would be a silly plan. Blake would be alerted as soon as she showed at the airfield in the state she was in. Marie decided she would take a car from the pack house. She had seen a few sat outside on the drive upon her arrival. Marie slowly and carefully made her way to the driveway and tried the door of the first came she found. She found it open and better yet the the keys were inside. She climbed in, turned the ignition and drove away.

Marie's heart raced as she drove away from the pack, the distance between her and the pack lands growing with each passing moment. Her decision to leave had been driven by fear and overwhelming emotions, a sense that she was out of her depth in a world that was still so new to her. The events of that evening had left her shaken to her core. Tears welled up in her eyes as she watched the familiar landscape fade away in her rearview mirror.

As Marie continued to drive, her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts and emotions, her body continued to hurt and she had to fight with everything she had left to stop the darkness consuming her. Finally, she pulled her car over at a safe distance, Marie pulled out her phone and dialed the number for Doctor Michael. After 1 ring his voice echoed in her ears.

"Marie?, what is wrong?" His voice full of sleep

"Michael please, I, I don't know what to do. I need your help"

"Where are you?" Concerned echoed through the line

"I am heading out of Blakes pack lands. I cannot stay here it, It was a mistake please tell me where to go." Marie;s voice full of pain.

Michael had been doing his own research since he had met Blake. "I know a place not far, but you will safe. I will send you the directions. go there and wait for me Marie. I will be there as soon as i can"

"Thank you" Marie ended the call and within seconds her phone sounded with a message from Michael containing the directions she needed. Marie was still bleeding and she could feel her self getting light headed. she punched in the location on her to phones GPS. 1 hour. Marie did not know if she would make it due to the threat of her body giving up on her but she started the car once again and continued on her way to get to Michael.

After what felt like an eternity, Marie pulled up to the location Michael had sent her. It was a small house hidden away in the furthest corner of a village Marie had never seen before. The lights were on and beckoning her to them, Smoke plumed out of the chimney. Marie opened the car door and dragged her bleeding wounded body towards the door.

Before Marie could even knock, the door swung open, revealing an elderly lady whose gaze was filled with concern and compassion. Marie's legs finally gave out beneath her, her body finally succumbing to her injuries. The elderly lady acted quickly, rushing forward to support Marie, her arms wrapping around her with a mixture of gentleness and strength. "Dear, let's get you inside."

Marie's breathing was labored, her body trembling from the combined physical and emotional strain as the lady helped her inside and lay her down on a small sofa.

The woman disappeared briefly, returning with a first aid kit and started to tend to Marie's injuries. Her touch was gentle, her movements deliberate as she cleaned and dressed the multiple wounds. Marie was exhausted and could not even react to the pain she feeling.

"You're in need of more care, than i can offer with my first aid kit, but Dr Michael will be here shortly."

Marie's wound continued to bleed through the bandages that had been applied and Marie could feel the darkness trying to take over. The door to the small house flew open and Marie saw Dr Michael come running in. Her eyes then closed and she let the darkness consume her.
