Buttering Up

Victor entwined his long fingers in hers at stared into her eyes with a smile, he walked ahead clutching her hand tight and Mia observed how his hands were sweaty too. She didn't dare to look up but experienced panic when she felt many eyes on her.

"Don't you dare entering the Premises" hearing an authoritative tone Mia shivered.

"Your Highness please accept my apologies," Victor sounded polite.

Curiosity rose to no bounds in Mia's mind hearing politeness in the voice of Victor from whom all she heard was orders wheezing out with rudeness.

Mia dared to look straight into the eyes of the woman sitting in the middle of the Hall screaming elegance in her appearance.

"Oh my God.. she is the Queen, where's her Tiara?" Mia squealed.

"Shh…" Victor pressed her fingers in his hands trying to calm her down.

"What's going over there? Did you forget the basic rules? Don't you know one can't speak to others while the Highness is questioning?" Mia heard a hoarse voice similar to Victor's.

"I am sincerely sorry Father, I was just…" Victor was explaining.

"He's your father? I just can't believe my eyes, he looks like your brother. Now I get where you get your good looks from" Mia rambled looking at Victor's Father from top to bottom.

"Could you for heaven's sake shut up?" Victor whisper yelled with anger.

"Princess of Wesley, what is with this behaviour of yours?" a sharp feminine voice from the group of people staring at them with angry eyes questioned Mia.

Mia didn't respond and kept glancing over the marble flooring. Victor pinched her fingers in order to make her respond.

"Ouch.. what are you doing?" Mia hissed.

Victor glared at her and signaled her to respond but Mia was too busy looking at the surroundings.

"Princess of Wesley, the Highness is expecting an answer for your behaviour" the one whom Victor called as Father questioned Mia.

"Idiot, you are supposed to respond" Victor hissed, and only then Mia got they were calling her.

"I am sorry your Highness, I was just…" Mia tried finding reasons.

"What is your behaviour Princess of Wesley? How come you didn't reply our Highness? Is this how you brought up your daughter?" Victor's father questioned a couple sitting opposite to them on the couch.

Mia looked at them and got they were Hazel's parents as Victor briefed her about them by playing a few videos.

"We are extremely sorry your Highness, we too have had no idea that our daughter would behave such ignorant. Please forgive her mistake for once" Hazel's mother requested.

"Princess of Wesley, what is this irresponsible behaviour of yours? When you know the number of threats around you, how can you be so careless? At least you should have informed us about your arrival, this is treason. Is this how you were brought up since childhood?" A woman dressed in a floor length skirt paired with a shimmering golden blouse roared.

Mia was unable to remember the woman, and she knew Victor will be roaring at her if she asks him anything at the moment.

Mia looked here and there trying to recollect who the woman is, as she has to answer her.

"Princess of Wesley, we are looking for an answer" Victor's father commanded.

"Answer.." Victor hissed.

"Highness... I mean, Your Highness, it's an honor to meet you" Mia chirped.

Everyone present in the hall stared at Mia as if she is an alien from outer space.

"Idiot, how many times I have to tell you? Remember you are HAZEL" Victor hissed.

Patience was draining out of Victor trying to maintain a straight face even though Mia is behaving exactly how he doesn't want her to.

"Your Highness, my parents brought me up drawing inspiration from your life. They always taught me to be a better human who tries to understand others by putting oneself in their shoes. They taught me staying truthful to the crown is the duty of us and at the same time they taught me understanding and supporting your husband at times is the responsibility of every wife. I just followed that Your Highness. Royal Prince of Cunningham wanted to be here for his personal things and being his fiancee it's my duty and responsibility to support him. I just followed that Your Highness and in no way it is intended to demean you or the Crown. Apologize us for the mistakes" Mia professed looking straight.

Victor gaped at Mia with shock while Travis's jaw touched the floor. No one spoke a word in the entire hall while the Queen adjusted her glasses to look at Mia.

Hazel's parents were shocked to hear the words from Mia's mouth whom they think is their daughter.

"Princess of Wesley, it's a great speech from your side to shut our mouth but don't you know the risk your both lives have? Don't you think it's your responsibility to inform us about your stay? How can you be so careless?" Victor's father cross-questioned.

"I apologize for worrying you. In no way we wanted to trouble you and trust me Royal Prince of Cunningham is capable enough to take care of himself and me. I trust him and he is true to the throne. If we wanted to keep the arrival a secret, he must have had a solid reason and I respect that. Please accept our apologies" Mia precisely looked at the Queen who is exactly opposite to them.

Everyone looked at the Queen for a decision. Staring at both Victor and Mia for a few seconds Queen nodded her head.

The trumpets blew and the flower petals fell on them from the sides.

"Welcome Home Son" Victor's mother welcomed them with a bright smile.

They bowed down to the Queen and greeted the family members. Mia kept the talk little and let Victor answer their questions.

"Princess of Wesley, we need to have a word with you" Victor's father commanded in a stern tone.

"Sure" Mia smiled walking to him along with Victor.

"Only you Princess of Wesley, alone" staring at her from top to bottom Victor's father walked to the adjacent room commanding Mia to follow.

While Mia's face showed panic, Victor's heartbeat danced with worry
