Lin Xiao arrived at the sect's kitchen, feeling dejected and disappointed. He had been hoping to become a powerful cultivator, not a lowly kitchen boy. But he resigned himself to his fate, determined to make the best of it.
As he entered the kitchen, he was greeted by a gruff old man with a bushy beard and a stern expression. This was Master Chen, the head chef of the sect.
"You must be the new kitchen boy," Master Chen said, sizing up Lin Xiao with a critical eye. "I hope you're ready to work hard, because this is no place for slackers."
Lin Xiao nodded, trying to look enthusiastic. "Yes, Master Chen. I'm ready to work hard and learn from you."
Master Chen grunted, unimpressed. "We'll see about that. Follow me and I'll show you around."
Lin Xiao trailed after Master Chen as he led him through the kitchen, pointing out the various pots, pans, and utensils. Lin Xiao tried to pay attention, but he couldn't help feeling a little bored. This wasn't what he had signed up for.
As they walked, Lin Xiao spotted a plump, cheerful-looking woman peeling potatoes at the counter. She smiled and waved at him.
"Hi there! I'm Mei, the sous chef. It's nice to meet you, Lin Xiao," she said, introducing herself.
Lin Xiao nodded, trying to be polite. "Nice to meet you too, Mei. I'm looking forward to working with you."
Mei chuckled. "Don't worry, it won't be as boring as it looks. We have our fair share of excitement in the kitchen, believe me."
Lin Xiao raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "Really? I thought it would just be a lot of chopping and cooking."
Mei grinned. "Oh, there's definitely that too. But we also have to deal with grumpy masters who have specific requests, picky eaters who complain about their food, and the occasional food fight. It's never dull in here, trust me."
Lin Xiao couldn't help but chuckle at Mei's cheerful attitude. Maybe this kitchen boy gig wouldn't be so bad after all.
