The Shadow Souls

Father Joe took a bath, changed, took a quick nap, had some breakfast, packed his clothes and thank his friend for the hospitality that they had given him. Then Father Joe left, heading to the monastery to tell them the good news.

Father Joe arrived at the monastery at nine in the morning, that day. He walked across the Grand Hall and directly to the office of the cardinal, passing and greeting all those who he passed by.

After knocking on the office door, he was beckoned in, to give his official and final investigative report about what had been causing the disappearances of persons in Trinidad.

The cardinal, who was alone in the office at the time, sat and listened intently to what Father Joe had to say. After Father Joe was finished, he asked him, 'Did you burn the ashes?'

Did I burn the ashes, Father Joe repeated, slightly confused.

Somewhere else in Trinidad…

Nicolas took out a large box of 'Moonshine' cornflakes from the cupboard and got some cold milk from the fridge. Putting some cornflakes in a bowl, he began pouring out the milk in the bowl, then he walked to the couch and turned on the television. The nine am news headline was on. Nicolas realized that he had not turned on the television since yesterday. He was about to change the channel when the news announcer spoke about another disappearance at the same boardwalk, yesterday night. I was there yesterday night, Nicolas thought to himself!

The female News Reporter stated that 'A taxi driver had spotted a couple walking up the boardwalk and had stopped a distance before them hoping that they would catch up to his taxi. When he turned back to see how far they were, they were gone. He stated that they just had disappeared from the boardwalk.'

Nicolas sat up with a look of dread on his face. His mind raced on possible theories that could have caused the disappearance. He dreaded to think that they had not succeeded in killing the shadowy figure that they faced off against, that night.

If they had not, this means that the shadow figure was either still alive or something else took its place. The very thought of it still being out there made him cringe, even more.

Perhaps, this is the right time to buy a nine millimetre gun, he thought to himself. He had put off the notion for quite some time, however now is looking like a pretty good time. He definitely had the money but it was highly unlikely that a gun would have an effect on the shadowy figure.
