Chapter 5: Entry test

Asta, while chewing his food, asked, "So, what I want to know is, what exactly does the Magic Knights squad do anyway?"

Magna, with veins popping from his head, replied, "Really... you're asking about this seriously?" He then began choking Asta and shouted in his face, "What are you doing joining a group you know nothing about? We protect the kingdom and guard important people."

Asta, panicking, said, "I-I'm s-sorry!"

Vanessa, drunkenly, added, "There's also work like protecting the people."

Luck, cheerfully, said, "There are tasks like fighting with all your heart. If it's a criminal, no one will mind defeating him without sparing his life."

Gauche, with blood dripping from his nose, said, "On top of all that, you spend all your money on buying things my sister likes," showing them her picture.

Grey, transformed into Asta, said, "Whatever it is, it will be fine. Sometimes we'll work together, I'm looking forward to it."

Satoru, while eating sweets, added, "But there's only one thing that will make you the Wizard King," then everyone fell silent and looked at him. He continued, "It's showing your competence and letting everyone know there's no problem because you exist."

Asta, excitedly, looked at Satoru and said, "Yes!!!"

After a while.

Magna, looking at the trio of beginners, said, "You will go to Sushi Town and hunt a boar."

Asta and Noelle exclaimed, "What's with this stupid mission?"

Magna retorted, "What are you saying about it?"

Asta declared, "I can kill a boar with my bare hands."

Magna warned, "Don't underestimate the boar."

Yami explained the reason for the mission, "I lost a bet with a guy, and the loser has to do whatever the winner asks."

Asta shouted, "Hey!! That has nothing to do with us!"

Noelle agreed, "He's right."

Yami, angrily, said, "You have two choices: go or die."

Asta and Noelle quickly said, "We're on our way."

Satoru, bored, said, "Booooooo! I won't go, this is boring."

Yami replied, "Alright."

Asta protested, "Wait, why isn't he going with us? He's new like us."

Satoru defended himself, "Remember what I said about merit?"

Asta replied, "Yes."

Satoru explained, "I've built enough merit to have the right to object," then placed his hands on the shoulders of Noelle and Asta. "So, come on little birds, spread your wings and fly."

Suddenly, while flying with Magna and Noelle, Asta said, "Wait, what's his merit got to do with being new like us?"

Noelle explained, "Actually, he's insanely strong, and he's built this merit among the royal families as the successor to the current Wizard King."

Asta asked, "But isn't the closest candidate the Captain of the Golden Dawn?"

Noelle replied, "Among the captains, that's true, but among our generation, he's above William."

Back at the Black Bulls' headquarters, a few hours later, Yami exited the bath and glanced at Satoru.

Yami said, "Blind guy, it's time for your entrance test. Let's see how much you've improved."

Luck, smiling, said, "A fight! Let me join you," he said, jumping at Yami, who grabbed him by the head.

Yami said, "No, you're not in the same league. Watch from the side and learn," then he looked at Satoru. "Come on, eyepatch, follow me."

In the forest near the Black Bulls' castle, Yami stood with his katana facing Satoru, who had a slight smile.

Satoru said, "I'll make this fight fair and only use my flame magic."

A vein popped on Yami's forehead, "What do you mean by that, brat?"

Satoru explained, "It's clear. You won't be able to touch me as long as I use my other magic." Then he said, "Sacred Flame, that's the name of my flame magic. This fire is alive and won't burn anything I don't want it to. If I want to harm something, it will never go out."

He then showed a golden flame in his raised palm and directed it to a nearby tree, healing its damaged branches.

Satoru continued, "It can also restore anything to its original state."

His grimoire glowed and opened, flipping its pages to a specific spell. Satoru chanted, "Sacred Flame Magic: Eight-Handed Sword, Celestial Array, Divine General Mahoraga," and flames gathered into a strong, human-like figure without eyes, with an anti-magic sword fixed on its arm, grinning wickedly at Yami.

Satoru, reminiscing, said to himself, "This brings back so many memories." Then he smiled at Yami, "I'll enjoy crushing you, Gorilla."

Mahoraga launched itself from its position, creating a network-shaped crater in the ground, and appeared in front of Yami, attacking with its sword. Yami directed his dark-covered sword in the opposite direction. When the swords collided, the veins in Yami's arm bulged, and a crater formed from their impact.

Yami analyzed, "This sword is like that shrimp's sword. This kid's second magic is dangerous enough to rival the captains using it alone."

Satoru charged from the side to punch Yami, but Yami skillfully deflected Mahoraga's sword and blocked Satoru's punch, then aimed a blow at Satoru's stomach. Satoru summoned a layer of flames in front of his abdomen, causing Yami to stop his attack and retreat.

Luck, from the side, with starry eyes, said, "This is awesome!"

Vanessa said, "So this is what it looks like when two captain-level fighters clash."
