THE INEVITABLE HIM

A one night stand with a White waitress in a club was all it took to make him. He had no father but an owner he had. He owned him..turned him into the demon he is now. At the age of eight, he killed the humanity and love he had. "To make you strange and a worthy successor. I don't need any weakling." Akim always roared at him. The day he died the Devil got a free ticket to leave South Africa for good. Revenge from their rival Mafia gang was not in his plans. He wouldn't shed the blood of his people. He needed the for something better. To build a legitimate global empire. He worked his ass of to be a better version than Akim had in mind. He would own it all, by any means necessary. The world wasn't fair so don't blame him if he stumbled on you in the course of fulfilling his plans. You needed to keep up to be able to work for or with him. He had a family, though not perfect, the gang always had his back and so did he. At the age of twenty -six, Lucifer as he was popularly known by his close men was the most eligible bachelor, and the youngest richest business man in the country and beyond. He said it and he did it yet, there was always something else to do. Something better. He might be crazy for wanting to conquer the world, but that was his plan. Lucifer was never the type to run, he never backed down....and though a tiny part of him wanted to, he couldn't. His demons were part of him. He was his own devil. The part of him which thrilled at the site of violence and smiled at the pains and fear in the eyes of others strived and dominated his soul. He wanted out but who was he kidding, his demons were his source of power. Power, which sucks humanity out of him. Lucifer had made his name in the Europeans countries, but he felt that there would be much profit and a fulfilling tap into the culture of Africa which would in no doubt be a jackpot for him. He was a business man and so knew his fact. Africa....he dreaded and loved. He was sure of his target..where else but Ghana..a foreign environment. He was yet to find out that Ghana would give him the encounter of his life.... Kara, popularly called Nana is the "unwanted" bastard of the Agyemang family. Her mother Esther got pregnant with her white boyfriend during her college years overseas. Her mother came home with a baggage instead of the promised degrees. Being the daughter of a strict African home, ones thought would be to disappear for good and bear the shame alone. The family frowned upon her actions, turned their backs on her and was disowned by her father. Single handedly, with help from her uncle, her mother raised her to become a typical Ghanaian child. Even with her fair skin and brunette hair...she was in no doubt a Ghanaian by actions. Many often got confused yet her calm nature and respect for every custom of the society irrespective of it's flaws made her Ghanaian. Kara lived her life like a story being told. She drew her plans from the moment Uncle Kwesi sat her down and told her of the story behind her birth and why she didn't have a father or a large family. She knew who her father was. At least she had a picture of him, a picture shut away. She was satisfied with having her mom and uncle in her life. They enough for her, she convinced herself. Nana's greatest fear is repeating her mother's mistake...Don't get her wrong, she respected her mom immensely, she was by far the strongest woman she had ever know. That didn't change the fact that she would like to write some of her wrongs. Nor did it change the feeling which ate her up all the time...She was an accident and that was something that even she couldn't make right. Being the child of a single mother in a Ghanaian society, there was a lot to do and not do. No matter the amount of wealth, the society would always see you as the daughter of the unmarried woman and hence, you are required to put in much effort to everything you do. Kara wanted her mom to know n feel that her birth was her biggest achievement

CHAPTER 11: Black and White....pt1

Kara had already used up 30 minutes of the 3 hours given to her. Getting home took her 30 minutes. The traffic was no joke, quite overwhelming since it was the first time she was leaving work early. She checked her wrist watch, a brown slim leather watch given to her by her mom on her visit last year. She still remembers the joy on Paro's face when she finally met Esther in person. She never went anywhere without the watch. She felt incomplete without it

Strangely, she felt that her mom was relaying a message to her through the gift. Unspoken words. It was already 11:40 am, she sighed and shook her head, stressed. She opened her closest and slumped onto her bed, defeated. "What was she going to do? she asked herself. " Gosh, I seriously don't have any official wear except for these skirts and blouses. I didn't even realise how bland and....dull they are. Heels....God....I'm doomed." She ranted to herself. The peeping of her phone startled her. The caller ID showed."Boss". "Hello..Sir.." she responded tentatively. Whatever Hakeem said made Kara relax, nod and smiled. " Alright Boss. Thank you. I will be there on time. Emmm...Okay. Then I will wait as you wish".

The line went dead. Kara slept face flat on the bed. " Thank you God. At least I don't need to pack anything whatsoever. He isn't so bad, I mean the three hours is for my goodbyes. God, I wouldn't really have been able to afford new clothes. Not now". Kara took a small bag and packed a few toiletries and necessities. He phone rang." Mom, I'm well. You?" Kara small and left to the living room with her small luggage. " Yeah, I'm sorry but we might have to postpone the studies this Sunday. Yes, worm came up" She noticed the concern in her mom's voice. " Sure dear. Take care of yourself Nana". Kara nodded unconsciously as if her mom was right in front of her. "I will." Kara assured. " Say 'hi' to my daughter for me. I love you Nana" Esther requested. " Sure I will. I love you too and I will call you as soon as I settle there. Bye mom".

Kara texted Paro of her sudden trip. She had a quit call with her aunt Cara, apologising and informing her of the trip. " I will miss family time this Sunday. Sorry aunt. Yeah sure. Thanks". Kara ended the call. Why did it feel like she had a lot of people in her life, or was she being hyperbolic? She thought. She locked the place up and took the lift to the ground floor. The ride ordered by her boss should be there. She wondered if she was too early or late. A black Camory stopped right in front of the entrance of the building. A man in his thirties stepped out of the car and approached Kara.

"Miss Kara..Narnal....Egye...". Kara giggled at the man's efforts to pronounce her name, which was a total failure. " Yea, I'm her." Kara smiled and received a sheepish smile. Her luggage was taken and she made her way to the back seat of the car. It was a short quiet drive to the airport. They stopped beside a jet. A private jet to be precise. The chauffeur quickly got out and carried Kara's small bag to the jet. Hakeem, her boss, stood at the entrance of the plane giving out no emotions as always. He signaled for Kara to get on board. " Yea sir", she mumbled, loud enough for him to hear. Kara shifted I'm her sear to ensure that she would be comfortable throughout the journey. "Buckle up". Hakeem casually alerted her to which she complied

She had no idea her purpose or role whatsoever in the trip. But then, she was his PA, so definitely it would be a similar job. She reassured herself. Minutes after their take off, their flight attendance, a tall, slim black haired lady to inquire if they needed anything. Hakeem asked for water and some fruits. He said something else to the attendance. Something which Kara could still not figure out. The lady didn't even ask her if she needed something. Not that she was bothered, but a glass of water would do. She averted her gaze to the window beside her to immerse herself in the view outside. She was startled when a tray of burger, steak. pasta. sausages, salad, fruit salad, juice and finally a glass of water was placed on her table. She didn't even know when the lady pulled out the table. She was I. awe.

" Emmm...I didn't ask..." As always, Hakeem interjected her awkward stutter. " Eat up. You have work to do when we land. I won't be responsible for your starvation ". " But this is too much. I'm not a glutton". Hakeem heard her perfectly well, even though it was meant to be heard by herself and the flight attendant. " Miss Agyemang, I never said you were. Consider it as your lunch and supper." Hakeem flatly retorted. Kara decided to just shut up and dig in. She didn't have a proper breakfast and it was already time for lunch. Please, let me know if you need anything Miss. The attendance spoke and left. Kara said "Thank you" in a small voice.

Kara stretched in the King size bed. Three hours ago, they arrived at the massive five star hotel. The hours of sleep should be enough for her, she thought. The flight exhausted her so much, probably because ahw was so full. She didn't even have time to check out the place and it's view when they landed. All she wanted to do was to get some rest. She saw the brown envelope which laid on the mini table beside her bed. She remembered exactly what her boss said to her. "Take this file, make sure to memorize everything. You have a day. On Sunday, you will assist my boss so you will need to know every single person on there." Hakeem pointed to the file. Kara looked like she had been struck by lightening. " What...? Your boss sir? My big boss? She almost snapped. Hakeem looked on, unimpressed at her reaction.

" Yes. Lucifer needs your assistance this weekend. He feels that an amateur's perspective on things is need. Memorize their faces, names, achievement, business relations, everything. And make sure to take a good look and analyze their dealings with Lucifer especially when they are in a conversation with him. Got that?" Hakeem didn't see the need to wait for a response. He turned to leave. He stopped, smiling with curiosity. Did he hear what she said correctly? He asked himself. " How I'm I supposed to do that? " Kara exclaimed.

.She thought she would regret the moment the words slipped out of her lips. But she didn't. Hakeem's actually made her give a sheepish smile. He giggled for the first time working with her. " What did you say? Hakeem asked again, he wanted a repetition of what she had said. Kara clenched onto the envelope and gazed into his eyes, unwavering. "I'm no psychologist Hakeem, I mean Boss. I don't know how to do what you want me to do. Yes, I can memorize everything.. but the other part..." Hakeem couldn't help but giggle against, his brown eyes glittering with amusement. " I know that Miss. But I also know that you are a smart lady. You are actually not going to do much." He flatly spoke. Kara was amazed, shocked and had a good reason to give a genuine smile to her boss. Hakeem added. "Use your lawyer instincts, and make use of your stay here. Don't disappoint the boss". He finally exited the room.
