When we arrived in France Sebastien took me out for some food and some shopping first. We got a few outfits I liked, some books for me to read and I almost felt like I stepped into a different life.

"We can order anything you like at home, is there anything else you like before we go home?" Sebastien wanted to know.

"No, thank you so much for this." Sebastien handed my bags to the driver who drove us to the house we'd stay in.

As we arrived Sebastien showed me some parts of the mansion but it was so big I almost immediately forgot the layout. He led us to a bar and ordered us two drinks when our father walked in.

"Glad to see the both of you are back," my father said as he sat down, "How was Paris?"

"It was beautiful, thank you so much." I smiled, very thankful indeed for my father to be this generous. The fact that he had all the money he could ever wish for didn't mean he should give us unlimited allowance.

"Anything for you princess, I've been held away long enough as it is, the least I can do is get you everything you want and need to make this place your home," he said, my father's eyes were warm, he took a sip of his drink when I gathered all my courage to open my mouth again.

"Dad, can you please tell me why I'm still alive, after what happened, why were you kept away from me?"

My father took a deep breath, closed his eyes for a second, and took another sip of his drink before he opened his mouth.

"Well, Jade, tell me, do you want to know everything? Truly everything? Even if you don't like the answer?"

"Yes," I said and took a sip of my drink while my father started his explanation.

Well, everything started hundreds of years ago, when colonizers from Europe found the place we now know as the United States. At that time I was a teen, around your age, and I lived with my people in peace before they did horrifying things.

One of the women of your mother's family, a witch, wanted me but as I kept rejecting her she cursed me to roam the earth till the end of times, to fall for one of her own and to forever see everyone I would ever care about die eventually so my heart would break every time I would care about someone, every time I would ever find love it would end in heartbreak to either see my loved ones die or to leave before it could ever become something.

When I met your mother, she didn't seem like her ancestor, when we made the both of you I wanted better for my children, I wanted better for myself, so I left for Europe, build myself a safe home while my people in the US were still treated poorly. Your mother and I found out soon enough that the both of you were immortal too, we agreed to your brother coming with me and you staying with her. She didn't inform me about your life until it was too late.

"Then why would she never have told me about this curse?"

"She wanted you to have a normal life, she wanted better for you."

When I went to my room and got myself ready for bed the words of my father kept filling my head, and while everything should be fine, having everything I wanted here, I couldn't help but feel homesick.

Knocks sounded from my bedroom, Sebastien came in without waiting for an answer.

"Again all alone here, writing in your diary," Sebastien said looking at my handwriting from a distance.

"Maybe I am just writing my next novel since my last one was such a success without even trying," I said with sarcasm in my voice, while referring to the version of my diary that would be sold everywhere.

Sebastien rolled his eyes, he just leaned against the wall..

"What do you want?" I asked him while I put away my diary.

He motioned for someone to come in and a group of people came in with racks of clothing and styling tools. "We throw a party and I invited people already do just roll with it okay?"

"I have to not attract any attention to myself, remember?" I said before he could leave.

"Dad agreed with the welcome party, just because you shouldn't call your friends after what happened doesn't mean you have to be isolated."

An hour later Sebastien knocked on my door again, he was dressed in black skinny jeans, an oversized T-shirt, and a black hoodie that reminded me of Jake's hoodie. I was in the meantime dressed by a team. They had allowed me to pick any of the dresses they got and I chose a black dress with thin straps and broader off-the-shoulder straps, A line skirt complimented my figure.

The stylists had also done a wonderful job in styling my long, straight, dark brown hair and made soft waves in it after giving it a nice cut. My pale face was contoured to compliment my facial features and my eyes were done as if I was Avril Lavigne or Taylor Momsen.

As the party was already going on Sebastien introduced me to everyone as they came to talk to him, I noticed multiple of his male friends giving me looks of interest, but I didn't pay attention to them, none of them were Jake.

Sebastien had two male best friends, Xavier, a boy with brown dreads, who was from Barbados was nice to me but didn't do anything that showed he had any interest in me, he was nice, had a good sense of humour and was always at my brothers' side.

His second friend was named Jules, a French guy with blonde hair with hair that was combed back but still, in his curly pattern, it was half long and obviously taken proper care of, he had warm brown eyes, they reminded me of Jake's, not just because of their colour, but also because he looked at me that exact same way like Jakes' did.

The entire day Sebastien made sure whenever my glass was empty, it was immediately refilled. Jules didn't leave my side the entire night, and while I did make one friend, a girl with blonde curls and blue eyes named Valerie, who liked me from the second we met, I thought that would be enough human connecting, for now, Sebastien, however, kept persistent that I should be more social than just that.

All the things Jake said, ran through my head every time I even dared to look at anyone, let alone the times I looked into Jules' eyes.

I needed some air, to be away from all of these people my brother found eligible to befriend me. I needed to get away from people because I felt like crying.

Just when I wanted to head inside Jules showed up next to me.

"You didn't look okay, is there anything I could do for you?"

"No, I'm fine."

We were standing on a balcony, looking at our backyard. While Jules took off his jacket to lay on my shoulders, I got flashbacks to Jake, to our first week at camp.

"And I don't know you, but the heartbreak in your eyes tells me enough, you deserve better," he said, looking me in my eyes, his eyes were smouldering, hypnotized.

Jules laid his hoodie on my shoulders, reminding me once again of Jake. "You're too beautiful to cry over any guy," Jules said before he left me alone.

Five minutes later Sebastien found me, still looking outside, wishing Jake was here. Tears rolled from my eyes and burned on my skin.

"You really loved him, didn't you?" my brother said.

"I still do," I replied.
