The Adjustment

One lazy afternoon, one master and one servant stared at each other for no rhyme nor reason.

It all started when one little servant started noticing how her mistress was becoming prettier and healthier each passing day. It had been a few weeks since Ying Yue transmigrated and this particular scene was something she had gotten used to. This foolish maid had lost her soul staring at her face with no chances of returning anytime soon.

"My lady! The color of your eyes are becoming lighter again!" Xiao Hua gushed like a love-struck maiden.

Right now, Xiao Hua was making a fuss on how her eyes looked captivating each passing day. For Ying Yue, whose bloodlines were both gifted in the looks department, she already expected changes from the original's body's looks as it upgraded to accommodate her soul. She already more or less guessed that this body would somewhat resemble her or to the very least retain a remarkable trait from her original face.

But she never would have imagined that the dark black eyes of the original would become lighter until it became light amber brown that turns to golden when hit by sunlight.

Lucky enough for Ying Yue, the original Bai Yingyue was more of a reclusive type of girl. No one has seen her face apart from this maid Xiao Hua.

As if thinking that Ying Yue did not believe her, Xiao Hua ran inside the hut to grab a mirror. "Look my lady." passing the mirror to her, Xiao Hua can no longer suppress the giggles.

Ying Yue who was forced to look at her face had to hopelessly comply with this foolish servant's request. She looked at the face on the mirror which resembled her soul. Amber-brown eyes, straight nose, and blood-red lips. Since this body was still upgrading its physical functions to house her soul, her body was slowly turning healthy and the skin that looked a bit yellowish in the past was now as white as porcelain with hints of rosiness showing the healthy glow of the body.

Ying Yue had to admit that even though this body was still young, this budding beauty could already be able to shake the foundation of a nation.

Ying Yue knew she ought to be happy for this little fact but more than being happy, she felt it was very troublesome. This might attract unwanted attention and might pose a threat to her stay in this plane. Aside from thinking like this, what else can she do? With a sigh, she just decided to keep this face veiled for the meantime.

Xiao Hua, who thought that she was depressed again because of her sigh, praised her to the high heavens in hopes that it would make her feel better.

"My lady! You are the most beautiful flower this servant had seen her entire life. Even if I can't find a husband someday, this servant will be completely satisfied if I can see your little face until my death." with a voice of finality, Xiao Hua raised her right hand as if to swear under heaven and earth how sincere she was.

Ying Yue was helpless to these kinds of foolish but lovable people. It felt like Bao'er had possessed this little maid without her knowledge.

As if hearing its name being called, a child-like voice drifted in Ying Yue's mind. "Yueyue! I agree with this child. Yueyue is the best looking in the entire land." Bao'er tried to talk maturely hence it addressed Xiao Hua as a little child.

Ying Yue laughed at both of them. Her laugh resembled a tinkling bell, crisp but very melodious to the ear. Both Xiao Hua in front of her and Bao'er in her head was dumbfounded then they looked at her stupidly with their jaws on the floor.

This made Ying Yue laugh even harder until some moisture squeezed out of her eyes.

After that day, Ying Yue had Xiao Hua embroider a veil for her. She needed to do a lot of things soon so the last thing in her mind was grabbing unwanted attention.

For the past week, she has thought of what she needed to do and where to start. The biggest plight the original had was that because she was neglected, she drowned into her depression. Forget about elevating herself to have a better life, Ying Yue was afraid that the original even gave up hope on fighting and living on. She was just a corpse in a living person's body.

For the Nth time, Ying Yue sighed. This body was pitiable.

She thought about how the original lived in the previous life and it seemed like the biggest problem was her not being a learned woman. This era gave much emphasis on talent and knowledge so she needed to start from there.

The children of the Bai Estate were all given primary education thus this body knew about the basics which made Ying Yue's life much easier.

All she had to do was to reread all those things to "consolidate" her foundation then find some time to sneak out and go to the public library.

Unlike the olden era she experienced in her past identities on earth, this world allowed women to visit public places that can cater to their learning as this world prioritized knowledge above all else.

Bai Yingyue as a neglected illegitimate daughter, have no problem sneaking out whenever she wanted to but she had to be careful as to not draw too much attention on her. At this early, attention would only bring forth calamity.

Having her first goal laid out, Ying Yue then took a rest then looked forward to tomorrow.
