Chapter 6: Change

A small and tender cough resounded in the quiet little hut. A child in the middle of the bed stirred, waking up.

After Ying Yue absorbed the memory, she caught a fever as a response of the body for the changes happening inside of it. Ying Yue though awake was still muddled because of the heat.

She heard shuffling noises followed by a series of footsteps nearing her then she felt something cold and wet on her face. Exerting her effort to open her eyes, Ying Yue saw a young child, older than her for at least a year or two, rubbing and patting a wet towel on her face. Worry was all over that little lady's face.

"My lady, please get better soon. This servant is worried about you." The little lady, who was according to the owner's memory called Xiao Hua, her maid, sniffled and was aggrieved. Full of worry for her mistress.

Ying Yue might have issues in trusting another human to a point of aversion at this point, but the body's memory had a strong dependency and care for this maid.

She also saw how this little lady protected the original by sacrificing her life for her when they were sent to the brothel. Thus, Ying Yue no matter how cold and detached was still nonetheless touched by both master's and the servant's sentiment.

Gathering her strength, Ying Yue lifted her little hand to touch Xiao Hua's hand that held the towel to her face then patted it in assurance.

"Xiao Hua, I will be okay. I just have to sleep it off and I will get better." despite the girl's fever and wanness, her smile was still warm and sincere. Like a ray of sunshine after a very long rain.

Xiao Hua was worried to death and was not able to see the minute changes in the girl's smile. All she was thinking about was probably how to steal some gruel in the kitchen so she can feed it to her mistress later.

Ying Yue fell asleep afterward and this time she slept for quite some time. When she woke up, she felt that her fever subsided and was able to sit up on the bed on her own.

Ying Yue closed her eyes to talk to Bao'er. "Bao'er, my intuition tells me that this place is more difficult compared to what we have experienced so far so we need to be very careful." Ying Yue always believed in her intuition. Vampires naturally have a sharper instincts for hunting and survival thus this plane gave her a very complicated feeling.

"Yes, Yueyue. I have already commenced copying important information from the world's consciousness' on its flow of fate but it will probably take more time."

Worrying, Bao'er tried to retrieve relevant information from the world's consciousness but found out that it was in hibernation and can only get pieces of information scattered around the flow of fate. But as it needed to piece them together to form a relevant timeline, Bao'er can only estimate and might take time to complete his task.

This really made it sad.

Ying Yue, having lived with Bao'er for quite some time, knew what was running in the little guy's head. With a warm smile, she reassured it.

"Bao'er, I know you are doing your best to help me out, so don't be sad okay? I am already very happy that you are willing to accompany me until this time." patting the little blob, Ying Yue smiled at its sincere effort to help.

Bao'er suddenly seemed like it was injected with chicken's blood, begun gushing and reassuring Ying Yue that it will do its best to spy on the world and give her the juiciest gossips too.

Bao'er through and through was still comparable to a little child. For it to come to the conclusion that gossips are vital information, it was already very… cute. Yes, Ying Yue can only use this word for Bao'er.

"Bao'er how long do you estimate successful retrieval of information from the flow of fate?" Ying Yue said while rubbing and patting the cute little blob.

"I estimate it would take at least a year to take the fragments from there then two or three years for me to piece them together." Bao'er muttered in a sulking voice.

Ying Yue was amused at the little blob then decided to pacify it so it would stop being frustrated. "Alright, Bao'er. You really are the best! Being able to do that much at such a young age? Only a genius among all the geniuses can do it!"

"Really Yueyue? You're right! Bao'er is really the best. But for Bao'er, Yueyue will always be the best among the best!" Bao'er then got over its self-doubt and frustration. Ying Yue was stuck between laughing or crying at this cute little blob's antics. She could only smile helplessly.

Ying Yue heard the door being opened then she glanced at it to see who it was. Xiao Hua came in with a bowl of gruel on her hand and a basin with a towel on the other.

"My lady! You're finally awake!" Running to her side, the little maid looked so happy that she looked like she could fly at any moment.

"Xiao Hua I am alright now, thank you for your care." Taking the load off of the little maid's hands, Ying Yue then helped herself with the bowl of gruel.

The gruel was very simple but was satisfying. Although this body was neglected to the point of being a passerby, her food was still nonetheless edible despite being plain.

After her satisfying first food since she transmigrated over, Ying Yue now had enough energy to talk proper things with Xiao Hua. This talk was duly needed as it would help her set her future stones in place. And since Xiao Hua was the only person who had close contact with the original, she needed to start from her.

"Xiao Hua, when I was sick until now that I am better, I feel like you are the only one who cared if I lived or die." Looking down on her lap, she showed an expression of hurt that was engraved on this body.

"Even though I have lost faith in my father and all the people around me, I will, however, never lose faith in you." Ying Yue clasped her little hand to the back of the little maid's hand to convey her utmost sincerity and determination. "Please trust in me as I do to you."

Xiao Hua was first surprised then she was touched beyond words. She always thought that her mistress was timid and was willing to just be confined to her fate, but looking at her now, she knew, something in her changed. And that change will be enough for her mistress to start something and might even be enough for her to dare make her own dreams. Xia Hua was sincerely happy for this.

"Yes my lady!" with hints of determination and devotion Xiao Hua promised to herself that she will also change herself and be more courageous so she can properly help her mistress reach things that they used to not dare think about.

As Ying Yue knew that the only thing constant in the world was change, she will start from this point in time and make the original and Xiao Hua achieve heights they never deemed possible. This was her sincere sentiment towards the two girls who have suffered enough in their previous lives.
