The Beginning Of A War

I just got out of bed and heading down the stairs into the common room. Today is the second day of school, and all I can say is I hope it's not as eventful as yesterday. I spent an hour or so last night brainstorming ideas on how to keep Malfoy's attention.

I have it now but like most purebloods. He'll switch to a new victim fast. Breakfast should start being served at 9 am. So I have a little under 3 hours to do what I need to do. While training in The Room of Requirement sounds perfect, my current priorities are the Slytherins.

I'm already dressed in my robes. I leave the Gryffindor house and start navigating The Grand Staircase. I make my way toward the library, which is closed now.

No matter. I pull my wand out and use the unlocking charm on the door. However, that doesn't work. It seems things are built a little more complicated here. I use a flurry of different charms, trying to figure out which one opens the door.

Nothing works. Strange. While I know plenty of spells for a first-year student. There are hundreds more I have yet to even practice with.

It's pretty clear this is a waste of time; I shouldn't stay here any longer. Who knew that the defenses to the door leading into the library were stronger than the ones protecting the forbidden section?

Well, not stronger, a magical conundrum I have yet to figure out. Perhaps I can ask Albus the next time I see him in The Room of Requirement.

I spend some time making my way toward The Grand Hall when I notice I'm the only one up at this early time.

Guess the wizarding world works on a different schedule.

I look through the mirror and see that Alex is already up and exploring the castle. He's made his way into The Great Hall. His attempts to get into the library were astonishing.

I had to cast protection spells repeatedly from where I'm at. While I won't forbid him from entering the library and the restricted section.

It shouldn't be this early in the morning. He'll have all the time he needs after classes end today. Yesterday was an easier schedule for the first years. Now the school day will be longer and demand more patience.

The school days will start at 9 am and end between 3 and 5. Depending on the day, dinner is held between 5 and 7 pm. After that, it's free time. They had it easy yesterday. Being allowed to go to bed early too.

I fiddle with my wand and think about what Alex has in store for himself today. While rivalries between houses are common, this one between Malfoy and him might go too far.

I admire that he stepped in and helped Granger, but he made enemies. It's harmless right now, but if it escalates further. I'll have to step in and deal with it.

I want to see how he'll handle a threat. See if he'll try and talk it out or jump straight to violence. Yesterday was an exception. He needed to get Granger out of there before she broke. So that situation shouldn't be considered.

Now that he has Malfoy's attention, I want to see his choices. I'm worried that his natural talent and genius will inflate his ego, just as it did Tom.

However, Tom was an empty monster that never knew love and friendship. I'm optimistic Alex won't end up like him. He's not coming from the same place in life. Not exactly.

Alex will likely skip classes again to train in The Room of Requirement. I'm tempted to have his assignments sent to his dorm room, but I also want to see how he handles the stress of missing classes and assignments.

Unfortunately, I'll have to force him to attend a minimum requirement of classes.

How he'll solve that personal problem, I don't know.

I stop looking at the mirror and stand up from my desk. I make my way out of my office and head toward the head of Gryffindor's office.

I need to speak to Minerva about things concerning Potter and his friends.
