Chapter 12

When I got home later that night, I was back to hysterically sobbing, as I was more convinced that he was going to die. That night, I couldn't sleep, as I was thinking back to all the good memories I had with Alex. Why did he have to die soon? Why!

In the morning, my eyes were covered in black from last night's crying. I was frantically getting ready to go back to the hospital to see if Alex is okay, even though I haven't got any news from the doctor.

"Hey, can I go to the hospital to visit Alex?" I asked Serena.

"Sure, but be safe in the streets, the criminals are still roaming around," Serena warned, "If I were you, I would take a buddy."

"Yeah, I should take a buddy," I nodded agreeingly.

"Phoebe!" I hollered.

Phoebe immediately ran downstairs, and she was already ready.

"I might need you since I can't walk outside alone," I explained.

"Right, since the criminals are still roaming around the city," Phoebe nodded.

"Yeah, and we have to see if Alex is okay," I added.

I opened the door, and we walked out of the palace, into the front porch. We continued to walk along the driveway, and soon enough, we were at the gates.

"Bye palace," I waved.

Phoebe was slightly giggling, "You will come back here in the evening."

"But what if I don't?" I nervously asked.

Phoebe had gone silent, as we continued to walk along the sidewalks.

A moment later, Phoebe decided to speak again after the long silence.

"Which restaurant should we go to after the hospital visit?" Phoebe asked.

"I think either Pamela's Italian Cuisine or Nonna's eatery," I suggested.

"Yeah, those are really good restaurants," Phoebe admitted.

Soon, we arrived at the hospital lobby, as doctors and nurses were coming in and out of rooms. Some people were chattering, while others were focused on getting their work done.

"Hey, are you here to see Alex?" The receptionist asked.

"Yes, now where is Alex?" I requested.

"I'll take you to Alex's room," The receptionist got up from her chair.

We followed the receptionist into the main ward. Soon enough, we reached the same room as the last time I visited. When I entered the room, Alex's eyes were open, and the doctor looked very surprised.

"I was going to tell you that Alex is now conscious," The doctor announced.

I'm glad Alex didn't die, because last night I was so worried about Alex.

"Hey Penelope," Alex greeted.

"Hey Alex, i'm glad you are ok," I responded, rushing to his bedside.

"What happened?" Alex pondered.

"Should we tell him?" I whispered to Phoebe.

"We probably should, duh," Phoebe rolled her eyes.

"So Alex," I started, "When you were running away from the criminals in the basement.."

"What! You have been interfering with the criminals!" Phoebe exclaimed in anger.

"Well they were kidnapping my boyfriend so what else should I do," I argued, "And they were literally in the basement."

"You could've let the police handle this," Phoebe shrugged.

"But the police aren't even doing anything, and Murphy was busy at the time" I shook my head in disbelief, "Do you even know how corrupt the justice system is?"

Phoebe sighed in disappointment, "You shouldn't have done this on your own."

"Anyways," I continued, ignoring Phoebe, "So Alex, while you were running, you got shot by Queen Mendoza, and we immediately called the ambulance. James and I were constantly worrying if you were going to be alive."

"Ouch," Alex shook his head, "A lot of things happened."

"I know, and the worst part is the criminals aren't even being arrested for it," I added.

"I literally lost all faith in the police after this incident," I shook my head, disappointingly.
