Twins

The war between the five countries had been going on for almost a decade with no end in sight. The ravine was now filled with blood while the land was soaked in it yet on this moonless night the rivers and land seemed to have reverted.

Meanwhile in the capital of Wei, in a large courtyard echoed the screams of a young lady in pain and voices of the maids present.

Outside stood an elderly couple with their servants and a man in his thirties who paced back and forth in front of the door.

"Master, please calm down. When the baby arrives the maids will inform us." Said an old servant standing at the side

"Old Ge, I'm just worried. Han'er has been screaming while now yet I can only stand here, unable to help" replied Lan Mu Shan with worry

"Shan'er, you should listen to Old Ge. What he said is not wrong, Concubine Han will be fine. She's simply feeling the pain of labor." Said the elderly woman as she looked at the door.

"I hope that this time Han'er will give birth to a son" said the elderly man as he looked over to Lan Mu Shan.

"I ho-"

"Wah, wah!"

Everyone quickly turned their heads towards the door as they heard the cry of a baby. Soon after the door creaked opened and the maid servant stepped out.

"Master, old master, old madam, Concubine Han has given birth to a boy! It's a young master!" Said the maid as she smiled happily.

They all quickly stepped forward towards the maid to hold the baby while congratulating Lan Mu Shan.

"Congratulations master, it's young mas-"

"Wah, wah!"

Once again everyone went silent again as the cry of another baby enters their ears. They quickly turn their heads towards the door with widened eyes this time.

After all, on this moonless night, the twins took their first breath but no one knew that there were two children in the womb. They turned back and stared at each other with a shocked expression, was this a blessing in disguise!?

"Miss, please hold on.!Someone summon the doctor!" Shouted one of the maids from inside the room.

Shortly after, one of the servants rushed in from outside the courtyard with a Doctor tailing behind her before stopping infront if the group.

"Prime minister Lan, this humble doctor is here to treat Concubine Han." Doctor Lin said as he bowed his head to greet the prime minister

"Quickly go in and see how is Concubine Han's condition" Said Lan Mu Shan agitatedly while he greeted back.

Seeing as to how the prime minister greeted him agitatedly he quickly went in without further a do.

After half an incense stick Doctor Lin finally stepped out of the room and looked at Lan Mu Shan solemnly.

"Prime Minister Lan, this lowly one has tried to the best of his ability to save Concubine Han but she doesn't look too well."

Prime Minister Lan looked at Doctor Lin without being able to utter a single word. He wanted to say something but he felt as if there was something stuck in his throat.

As he was unable to comprehend anything he decided to toss all irrelevant thoughts to the back of his head he sprinted towards the room to see Concubine Han.

Upon entering the room and looking at the love of his life lying there as if the life in her had been sucked out. Prime Minister Lan rushed to her side and held her hands, this was the hand that always supported him yet now it was just so lifeless.

He couldn't help but let out a deep sigh as he thought about their past and their dreams. They still had so much left to do and so much left unsaid yet their time seemed as if it was cut short.

Unable to come to terms with it, he felt aggrieved and angered at the gods. After all they had both fought so hard and were finally able to be together swearing to be with each other till they grew white hair, yet now the gods are tearing them apart! How could he possibly be able to accept that. Prime minister Lan quickly stood up and walked out of the room.

Upon exiting the room he saw that his parents were still there along with Doctor Lin as they waited for him.

"Tell the wet nurse to take the young master to his courtyard. And my second child is it a boy or a girl!?" Said the prime minister sternly

"It's a girl, master." said a maid as she quickly stepped forward.

"Mmm" responded the prime minister.

He didn't react much after hearing that he had a daughter afterall she was his fifth daughter. If it had been a son then he would have cared more about her but since she was a girl who would eventually marry he didn't care much about her.

"Take the fifth young miss to her courtyard as well"

"Yes master" replied the maid as she took the child away.

Prime minister turned to Doctor Lin and asked respectfully, "Is there anyway to treat Concubine Han?"

"My apologies Prime Minister Lan, If there exists a way this lowly one does not know." Doctor Lin replied as he bowed his head towards Lan Mu Shan

"Mmm. You may leave and thank you for coming this late into the night" said Lan Mu Shan as he bowed his head. "Old Ge please give Doctor Lin his silvers"

Prime minister Lan then turned towards his parents and said, "Mother. Father it is now late you should go rest for the night"

Upon hearing their son the old couple turned around and left for their courtyard with the servants trailing after them.

Seeing his parents return, he quickly started to order the servants to find the best doctor in the capital and to prepare a refreshing meal for Concubine Han for when she wakes.

After giving orders to all the servants, he returned to the room and sat beside Concubine Han while holding onto her hands again.

As several days went by, Concubine Han still had yet to regain consciousness but Prime minister Lan never left her side. Everyone in the residence tried not to say much about the current situation carelessly in fear of losing their heads.

However on this day, the prime minister's residence had an unexpected visitor, at the main entrance stood a monk as he turned the Mala beaded necklace in his hand.

"Amituofo" said the monk as he stared into the prime minister's residence

"How can this lowly one help you? " one of the guards ask as he approached the monk

"Amituofo, there is something strangely ominous in this residence" replied the monk

The guards couldn't help but look at these monk strangely. What could possibly be strange? The lovely Concubine Han had just given birth to twins although it wasn't an easy labor so the doctors said she might not make it. That's all, what's so ominous about that!? Was the monk trying to curse the prime minister's residence!?
