April 2001
46 years have passed since the incident. At the exact location, a lone red car with black trims was driving on a curvy road. The car model itself was a Honda Fit. Inside it sits two people. Both men, young and old.
The older man that is driving the car has slicked-back Onahua hair with having dark blue eyes. He wears a cyan, blue, and white flannel long-sleeved shirt with blue cargo pants and black boots.
"A weekend of camping with my son. I'm happy that it's finally happening." The old man said with a smile before turning to his neutral expression, "Especially since the amount of work I've had to do lately." He ends it with a sigh.
The young boy didn't acknowledge his words as he looks out the window. He has short curly hair that goes down to his neck and has the same hair color as his father. He also has dark green eyes. He wears a plain blue shirt with an unzipped black, dark blue trimmed jacket over it. Pair with dark blue pants and brown boots. He turns his head to focus on his father.
"Hey, dad. Have you heard about the legend?" He asked.
"What legend?" Father replied with another question.
"The legend about this warehouse that's been abandoned near where we are camping; not only know that but there used to be a scientist living there. Apparently, they were rumors about creating some secret project."
The father stayed quiet. It was for the moment before he replied.
"I may know what you're talking about, Laichi. The warehouse you mentioned used to be a factory for wood to be used for construction. Your great-grandfather used to work there."
"What happened?"
"Sometime in the early 50s, this place was closed for unknown reasons. The building has been sitting there ever since. As for the rumor itself, I actually heard the same thing when I was just a young boy. Believe me, I have heard a lot of theories that most of them are outlandish even. Like there's one claiming that the project is some kind of weapon to destroy evil spirits or something."
Laichi raises his eyebrows. "You serious?"
The father nods as he noticed something in front of him. It was a turn-off into a narrow dirt road.
"Looks like we're here." He states as he turned the car into a dirt road. It was jarring as it went from smooth as butter to rough and shaky. He parked it in front of the tree.
They got out of the car, opened the trunk, and grabbed their supplies. With the trunk slammed shut, they journeyed through a hiking trail.
They've seen many sights throughout their adventure like many crystal clear lakes, a bunch of animals roaming, and a huge waterfall.
By the time they got to their spot and set up their campground, it was already close to nighttime. They had a nice comforting meal before retiring to their tents for their next day of continuous adventure.

I woke up, feeling groggy as hell. I pulled out my phone to check the time; it was five in the morning. I got out of my sleeping bag, put on some clothes, and crawled out of the tent. I checked to see that my dad was still sleeping. Since I couldn't go back to sleep, I decided to hike on the trail to pass the time.
I started walking; quickly realizing that I can't see jack shit. Once again, I took my phone out of my pocket and turned on the flashlight. Now it lights the path in front of me, making my journey easier.
After ten minutes of monotony from seeing the same thing; from a distance, I spotted a large black silhouette. It definitely stood out from the rest that I've seen. I head towards it.
Once I got close enough, the light now shines on a rusted metal wall with a single dusty window. I moved around my light to inspect the structure around me. I was thinking, what could this be? Then it hits me, that this is an abandoned warehouse. The same one that Dad and I talked about yesterday.
It looked worse for wear, no surprise there. I thoroughly checked my surroundings when I spotted a rusted door that is open. I approached it, getting a sneak peek at what the inside of it looked like. It was just an empty, huge room. The whole floor was covered in dense foliage, it even reached toward the ceiling. It's like looking at the greenhouse.
When I was about to step in, I suddenly stopped and became hesitant about going in there since they're could be potential dangers, like a predator living in this place for example. I looked back and forth.
"Fuck it."
I went inside, exploring the interior. To sum it up, there's old equipment in the building. It feels like its stuck in a time warp. As I stated before, the floor itself is covered with so much vegetation that you can barely make out that there was a concrete floor at one point. I continue treading through it until my flashlight showed a door. I grabbed the knob and absolutely struggled to open it; it came with a migraine-inducing noise
After I got that opened, I was catching my breath for a moment. When I looked up, my expression went from annoyed to amazement in a matter of seconds. They were supercomputers. While some of them were destroyed, a couple of them still stands. There's also a couple of wooden tables with a bunch of folders on top of it. It's like I've stumbled upon a hidden lab.
"Oh my god...the rumor about the scientist is true," I said to myself as I also noticed that they were a bunch of debris scattered around the place; one thing that stood out was the mountain pile of them in the center of the room. It makes me wonder, what the hell happened.
I went over to the desk, picking up one of the dusty folders. Opening it to reveal a paper. I looked at it, only to my disappointment that the text on the paper was faded to the point that it was unreadable; except for the bold lettering at the top.
"Project Reberuappu."
Okay, first off, why the hell is my last name on there? Either this scientist part of our family or is it just a coincidence? If it's the former then there's something my Dad isn't telling me. What is he hiding?
I would ask him questions when I get back, but I don't think it's a good idea since he'll probably just brush it off.
The only best option is to investigate it myself.
Putting my thoughts aside as I moved on toward one of the computers. I pressed the power button and...nothing.
"Son of a bitch." I murmured. I was hoping to get more answers, but it looks like it's not gonna happen. Shook my head in disappointment before turning around to notice a small safe that was located under the same desk. I went up to it; It looks like I need a combination number to open it.
For the next couple of minutes, I looked through any papers that I can get my hands on. Most of them were junk then I stumbled across a piece of paper with three different numbers. This is got to be it.
I went back to it, did the combination, then the door was opened.
"Yes." I cheered before I took a look to see what was inside. It's a tall beaker with blue glowing liquid inside of it. Is this the project that the files mentioned?
I took the beaker, holding it up toward my face. Am I supposed to drink it or something? This could be dangerous for all I know. With potential details about this basically gone, I'm pretty much in the dark.
I pondered on what to do. After what seemed to be an eternity, I made the choice that will change my life forever.
I drank it.
It has that nasty medicine taste, which almost made me throw up, but I managed to swallow it. Ignoring the shitty aftertaste, I checked around my body to see if anything is happening but its nothing. I feel normal. I shrugged, putting the beaker down. I begin to head out until...
"Argh!"
This is the moment that I regretted my decision.
My entire body feels immense pain. I fell on the ground while screaming in agony. It felt like it was on fire coming from every direction.
Eventually, the pain was so strong that I passed out.

...
...
...
...
I regain consciousness, and my eyes met with bright sunlight, which forces me to cover them. I got up and looked around to see I'm in the same place, except now I can see the whole room due to that big hole in the roof.
I checked around my body to see if there were any visible changes.
'Looks like nothing changed and I'm feeling alright. Maybe, it was... woah!' I thought before being startled by something that appeared in front of me.
It looks like a blue transparent screen with white trim.

What the hell is this?
It looked like it came from an RPG game. Is this the result of that experiment I just drank? Did I gain this... RPG power...? Only one way to find out.
"Menu," I said before the screen disappears, immediately getting replaced by a new one.

Simple. Straight to the point. I'll check out my stats first; I tapped the stats on the screen, and another projection appears next to it.

It looks like my stats are standard. I played some games to know what each stat represents, but at the same time, I got questions like what is RP or Tiers for that matter. Maybe I'll get the answers down the line.
Anyway, I decided to use all of the stat points to increase my strength by five, agility by three, and endurance by two. Once I did that, my body felt a momentarily tingly sensation. I'm feeling stronger now.
I close out the stats screen. Picked my next option on the menu.
"Abilities."
The same thing happens as before. This screen shows that I got three abilities. It is represented in a black rectangle box. I hit the first one, the black box covered the entire screen.

Get your head into the game. This ability allows the user to think calmly. It will only activate during a battle.

From reading the description, it makes sense. The mind needs to be calm to clearly deduce your opponent's weakness and come up with a plan for victory.

That's neat. I can pretty much gauge how strong my enemies are. I will give this a quick test run. I looked at one of the folders.
'Observe.' I thought as a new pop-up appears.

I close out the abilities tab to check out the next option.
"Inventory."
I was expecting another screen but instead, it sends a projection of ten by ten boxes. The slots were empty as expected.
Deciding to do another quick test run, I threw my phone into the projected image. It disappears when came into contact. Now I see my phone inside the first box.
"Neat," I said, putting my hand through the box where my phone is at; I managed to grab it out and putting back in my pocket.
I close out the tab; checking out the last option.
"Equipment."
When it popped up, this screen was bigger than the others I've seen so far. On the left side was a 2d anime render of me; on the other side is a bunch of slots. Each slot points at a different body part. I see the clothes that I'm currently wearing filled some of the slots. Since I got the idea of what it does; I closed the whole menu out.
I took a look at the safe once more. I saw something at the bottom. Upon further inspection, I saw this weird-looking gun. The design itself came from something out of science fiction from the fifties.
It mainly has a red color scheme with some parts metallic. It also features a container full of blue liquid; I'm guessing that's ammo. I used Observe for more details.

This is amazing. I'm holding an actual Ray Gun. I never thought the day that the whole thing would happen.
With nothing else to look at, I begin to head back to the camp, my dad must be worried sick. I walked forward towards the exit, but out of nowhere, I get this message.

I didn't even get a chance to read it as I heard something approaching rapidly. It was followed by a roar that sounded like a...
"Oh, shit!" I exclaimed as I see an Ussuri Brown Bear charging towards me. I jumped out of the way at the very last second.
As I feared, I might've just walked right into its territory.
I got a clear look at the bear; it looked bigger than average. It has a faint scar on its right eye. The bear stood up; towering over me. Seeing this sight made my mind freeze in fear. It's like my body doesn't have the will to move.
As it goes for a swipe with its claw, my mind suddenly became clear; I was able to duck down to avoid the attack. I suddenly felt calm even standing against this predator. This must be War Mind activating itself.

Well looks like I have to kill it now, so I pointed my gun at the bear. It was charging toward me; I pulled the trigger. A green laser came out, it vaporizes its head upon contact, leaving a big hole in its body. My jaws dropped at the power of this weapon.
"Well, that's anticlimactic."

I opened up the inventory to take out a leather book. It has Japanese text on the front cover along with a painting of a galaxy that covers the entire front of the book.

I hit yes. As the system explained, the book turns into particles that went into me. I felt a slight headache momentarily due to all of the information being processed all at once.

I am feeling quite confused. I wonder what's this skill is about? But unfortunately, I need to get back to camp.
As I was heading out, my mind was occupied with thoughts about everything that transpire. I have so many questions about this power and the person who created it.
Who was the scientist? How did he create all of this, or...
