We walked for a long time along the cracked earth, until the black spot in the sky was hidden by the dark night, the only sign of its presence being the thundering sound that shook the ground around us and the lightning that accompanied it. I knew we still had a way to go, but we couldn't risk flying. With the seal weakening, it was far too dangerous to risk approaching from the air.

Luc's hand in mine was tight and I couldn't help my relief at having him by my side. Everything was truly riding on whether he could control his power, and if he had doubts, he was doing a good job at hiding them. His expression only held cold determination and despite the lack of cold or warmth, his hands were not clammy. There was only a firm grip as we walked, and I took a deep breath as I tried to hide my own worry.
