Chapter 42

The trip to the Lawless City was done relatively quickly as Alpha, Beta and I took a train from the nearby town to get to another lesser town near the city so we could take a carriage to finish the trip to the city due to no trains running there.

Even as we made our way there, we kept ourselves busy, with Beta taking some time for herself when we weren't talking to do her writing, and likewise Alpha and I bonded over the antics that the Shadow Garden members got up to over time that I wasn't there to see in person.

"So you think that Zeta will challenge you again? "I asked as Zeta was still the most 'talented' member of Shadow Garden but not the strongest due to her constantly branching out with new weapons and ideas while also being in charge of intelligence gathering.

At my question Alpha shrugged uncaring as she had beaten the cat beastkin without too much issue and would regularly bully Delta to keep her obedient. "Should her pride rear up I can put her into the dirt again." She said simply making my lips twitch as I remembered how in canon, Zeta literally made a cult for Cid in trying to make him an immortal god.

And in this scenario in which a dozen plus gods resided around her while growing up and influencing her? Yeah I doubt she was being a good girl and actually was up to some kooky shit.

I snorted putting the thought of my head as I sighed and looked out of the carriage as already we were making our way towards the Lawless City and I could see the three massive towers that made up the core of the city.

"So. the three towers." I started with a bit more volume to get Beta's attention from her reading. "One, the Black Tower has the fighting king who is just a barbarian who kills at his leisure, along with capturing men and women for himself to play with before killing them. To say nothing of how he is also known as the bandit king who many a bandit clan pays a tithe to exist and he, in turn, keeps the various kingdoms from cracking down on them too hard due to the fact that he is a walking army killer." I began reciting the information.

"The second tower, the White Tower, is controlled by the Nine-Tailed Kitsune Yukime who also runs literally every bar, brothel, and restaurant in the Lawless city, with her pointy ears and fingers being in many other major cities as well with her controlling holdings in those fields for major cities. Also, she is also Amaterasu's informant." I added on at the end before taking a breath as I got to the heart of the matter.

"Now the last tower is the reason we are here besides killing the Barbarian King and liberating his treasury for the church," I said under my breath as the guy was literally a monster in human flesh but he was a strong monster that laid up and gave Delta some wounds when she was sent to kill him. "Either, way the Red Tower is the issue... Due to them being literal Vampires, we will have to account for them possibly having access to Nirn magic possibly due to their connection to Molag Bal." I looked to Beta and as I did I conjured a small dagger out of the divine light Baldur's blessing gave us.

"Baldur's blessing will likely be extremely effective upon them, but I am not sure as to what level the higher level vampires will be. So be on your toes." I said with Alpha nodding, she was well prepared for this mission as she had gone to Scathach to learn how to engrave runes of sunlight on some daggers she had on herself.

I took a breath as I wondered what was going to be the potential world-ending issue that may come about as the vampire princess that failed to go vegan, was only able to destroy a single country before she dried out and fell asleep for millennia.

I tapped my fingers together as I mused on our options before I tilted my head to the side as I asked for the girl's opinion. "So we go straight to the Red Tower before darkness falls and we kill all the vampires and with the sun still being up they won't be able to flee the tower." I finished with Beta and Alpha sharing a look.

"That will work as they will obviously have their strongest and most valuable members towards the top of the tower Jake." Alpha agreed with me while Beta actually raised a hand with a wry smile.

"Either way they would be purged, but is there a specific target, a person, treasure or weapon we are hunting for?" Beta asked pointedly and my lips twitched with only a weak shrug being her answer, making both elves sigh at the lack of information. "Well that's fine I suppose," Beta said helplessly.

In order to get off that topic as we now knew what was our plan I winked at Alpha as I asked loudly. "Oh by the way. I found a whole stack of smut books had been ordered and there's now a secret bookcase in the church's library filled with such filth... I wonder who could have done such a thing." I started off and both girls flinched at my words making me wonder... If there was truly such a thing!

"Haha... Truly who could do such a thing." Beta said utterly quietly while an incandescent blush crossed her pale face that clashed with that cute mole under her eye while Alpha used her strong poker face to hide any such expression.

Dammit, now I needed to check the damned church's library for a hidden smut section when we get back before they can destroy the evidence! Still, some prebattle banter always helped settle nerves even if Beta and Alpha were well used to combat. And we weren't going to waste time here in the Lawless City, I wanted this mess done with, so I could get back to wrapping up the Cult of Diabolos before Nirn actually merged into this world and brought their issues like literal demonic invasions and immortal dragons invading the world to devour both worlds that were combined into two.
