CHAPTER 21

Just like that days passed, the sanctuary continued like it used to except that people had to be extremely careful when outside and were to instantly report any strange sightings or the sort. Naturally, the teens were informed of everything that

was going on. After all they were the ones truly protecting the sanctuary, despite the emergence of about three superhumans in the sanctuary including Maxwell, it was just not comparable to the number of the mysteries and numbers apart, the superhumans were still too weak. They were not still able to use their powers for more than a few minutes, the only differences between them and the ordinary humans in the sanctuary was their enhanced strengths that the non-superhumans couldn't compete with, their increased speeds, better sight, better hearing and smelling, and endurance. According to what Maxwell told the teens, the superhumans could only improve their powers by absorbing the energy in the energy crystals of the combatants zombies. The report was said to have being received a few days ago when the leader of one of the largest sanctuaries actually upgraded and was now able to use his powers for extended minutes, up to an hour.

The sanctuaries all over the world were now focusing on the combatants, they wanted to acquire their energy crystals but however there were only so many combatants to be counted on fingers in several countries, how was it supposed to be easy?. Besides, the combatants that were capable of implementing elemental powers were actually far stronger than their human counterparts, they were faster, stronger and even had more vitality, it was like an impossible quest for those who were

not properly equipped to kill them and the sanctuary of mystery right now was just not up to the mark to take on the attack of

a combatant not to talk of taking the initiative to hunt one by themselves. Perhaps in the nearest future, they would be able to

do so by themselves, but for the current them, they needed the help of the mysteries if they wanted to so much as even harbour the idea of that.

Josh sat in meditation with his friends, at that moment they were trying to sense the mysterious energy that was sealed within them when they acquired their weapons. At first when they began to use the weapons, they had no idea that they had been infused with an energy of sorts. But as time passed and they began to meditate while trying to bond better with their weapons, they slowly discovered it.

At this moment within their bodies, resplendent colours that represented the different energies they controlled were constantly spinning as waves upon waves of energies were released from them. Slowly, the weapons began to hum while faintly glowing as they gradually rose from the floor in front of the teens. The faster the energy spinned, the faster the waves

of energy that were released and the louder the weapons hummed. As the waves of energies released flowed through them, the energies gradually gathered at the vital organs of their bodies and wrapped around them as if to act as protection for those

organs. Totally ignorant of what transformation was happening within their bodies, the teenagers continued their meditation session with no commotions. Just like that time slowly crawled away.

Like that, hours passed but they did not move from their spot. The more time that passed, the more energy that was released into them and the more closer they felt to their weapons. Sitting quietly in one place for hours like statues was no

something that they felt was fun but they had no choice, if they were supposed to be able to contend against the combatants in the outside world, they had to get strong and fast!. Time was not on their side, in fact in this apocalyptic world, nothing seemed to be on the side of humans. Finally after about five hours of meditating and 'bonding' with their weapons, the teens

opened their eyes.

"Seriously, do we actually need to sit cross legged every time we meditate like some Buddhist monk for a shaolin temple?." Comfort asked. Clearly they were not getting any used to the meditations than they were when they just started,

after all they were still teenagers at the end of the day and they wanted to have fun not spend their time sitting in solitude everyday. But at the same time it was a must that they got stronger if they wanted to continue living in the apocalypse, if only

there was a way for them to continue to unleash their energy and unveil the mysteries they contained without having to sit tight in their training ground like Buddhists.

"Humph. . .." Larry scoffed, "If you think it is that easy to handle powers like this, why are you like us yet to unleash the knot of your energy?. For stuffs like this, it is required of us to patiently take as much time as is needed while ensuring that the objective is met. If you can't even endure this little, why bother to train or meditate at all?, you can just be like the other people in the sanctuary that need to be under our constant protection and treat us like we are some kind of transcendent people that are supposed to keep watch over them. Right now you are free to leave the sanctuary anytime you like, you can stay for as long as you want and even have the privilege that comes with your strength to make demands, but have you thought of what the situation would be if we were like one of those weak fellows out there?, if you were just another random lady seeking refuge here?, do you seriously think that the lives of people in the sanctuary are as good as they seem?. Maxwell is just one man, his helpers are countable on fingers, yet they have to manage a sanctuary with hundreds of people who have become completely twisted from their years in the apocalypse, most of them no longer care for the rules they are supposed to

abide by because they are used to their lawless natures from before they joined the sanctuary. In the vast piece of land that

the sanctuary has occupied, how many females have to live miserable lives in the outer edges, how many people have to starve because they are being over powered by some useless fellows?, you never know what you are misusing until it is taken from you."

Hearing what Larry said , the training room was dead silent as the rest of the teenagers sank into their own thoughts, contemplating on the words they had just heard. No matter what, it was true that they had never thought up to that level even

when they were imagining their lives in other chances. It was somehow inconceivable that in a just developing sanctuary, there were already problems of such themes. No matter what, these were people they would give their lives to protect and now they were actually exposed to the plain truth that some of ungrateful fellows still existed that were willing to oppress thw weak

amongst them and even take their chances on the weaker sex. Thinking to this part, some of them especially the females felt anger rising within them, no matter what they were after all of the same sex and there was a slim chance that they could have

been the ones in those people positions if the scenarios were changed.

"Why don't we just identify those miscreants and toss them directly out of the sanctuary as a warning to those that have such thoughts in their heads?", Ebbie asked. Evidently she was so mad that she would probably break the bones of those supposed evil doers if they were before her at that moment.

"Yeah!. . . Why are you even just telling us now, we would have gotten them to be fed as food to the zombies if we had known any sooner", Ola said.

"With what I know now, I don't feel the need to be acting all selfless for these people any longer, they all turn out to be ingrates. . . ".

One at a time, they all spoke out their opinions concerning the words spoken by Larry as they got prepared to eat.

Naturally, meditating and all that was a very boring stuff but at the same time, it was really exhausting and needed a lot of energy. As they prepared their meal, they began to engage themselves with other conversations. if a person was passing by, they would have been completely oblivious to the fact that those teenagers were the same people furiously speaking of the most painful ways to make some people pay for certain actions they were carrying out.

In an area that was a populated town before the apocalypse, famous for the giant mall that was erected at the centre of the town, two combatants stood facing each other. One was the lightened powered zombie while the other was supposed to be the owner of the territory. At that moment as they stood facing each other from separate buildings, the territorial zombie

suddenly released a loud roar in warning at the lightening powered zombie.

*Roar*.

Naturally the thing was that the lightening powered zombie was going in search of energy when it was suddenly attacked by the other combatant that felt that it was intruding, normally it was a prayer answered for the lightening powered

zombie as it was currently on the verge of break through, and for some reasons it was feeling the urge to absorb energy.

Looking at the ugly looking combatant that reeked of blood in front of it, it already knew that it needed to kill it. After all it carried the smell of the tabooed scent that always prevented it from attacking those things1

that always smelled nice and made him hungry. Looking around at the surroundings and perceiving the scents in the air with its highly sensitive nose, it could smell blood from a few locations and could even pick up the almost inaudible movements in some of the areas where the slow walkers were the densest and most orderly. From the look in the combatant's totally black eyes, it knew that most probably the combatant was about to feed when it intruded in its peaceful environment, if it came maybe a few minutes late, the fellows under watch would most probably have died. At this moment the combatant suddenly made its move, its body became directly covered in metal that acted as amour for it as it got into fighting position. It turned out that the zombie was not just any random combatant, it was actually an highly ranked one because of the increased difficulty in killing it. At that moment,

looking at the metal powered combatant that looked like a middle aged man, with mouth cracked from ear to ear and razor sharp teeth, with blood soaked cloths that reeked, the lightening powered zombie decided that it must die!.
