Chapter 50: Strange New Creature

Ji Yunhe's eyes were blood red, raging with a terrifying, murderous glow. Ji Chengyu felt chills down his spine. The black gas around her condensed, forming nine demonic fox tails no different from that night on the cliff. She had transformed again.

Ji Chengyu stood dumbfounded when her eyes suddenly flashed, and her tails swiped fiercely against the cell bars. A loud clang was heard and the cage shook. The bars, protected with the Grand Master's magic seal, glowed and lit up the entire prison.

Ji Chengyu was knocked back by the force of the impact and fell to the ground. The nine tails behind Ji Yunhe did not give up. They recklessly lashed out again and again against the seal.

Then the tails suddenly retracted and struck with a momentum more powerful than before. They broke through the glow of the magic seal and swept out of the cage, aiming for Ji Chengyu. Ji Chengyu wanted to block them, but under the pressure of her demonic power, he could not lift even a finger.

Just in the nick of time, a streak of white light flashed in from outside, pinning a tail to the ground. It was a white arrow. Ji Yunhe let out a muffled grunt and attempted to retrieve her tails, but more arrows came and nailed all nine of them to the ground.

Ji Yunhe let out a cry, spat out a mouthful of black blood, and her tails dissipated into black gas once again, swirling around her. She leaned against the wall and panted. Dissipation of her tails seemed to have relieved her pain a little.

A pair of immaculate white boots walked into the prison. With a wave of his white sleeve, the arrows scattered around and turned into vapor, gathering onto his fingertips.Then it formed into a sword inside the Grand Master's slender hand.

"Chengyu, you can go."

Ji Chengyu nodded his head and immediately retreated. The Grand Master pushed open the door of the cell and stepped inside. Ji Yunhe was dripping with sweat. She looked up at the Grand Master and laughed at herself.

"Grand Master, did you see? What kind of a freak am I?" The black gas around Ji Yunhe did not rest. They swirled and danced, probing, as if looking for the perfect opportunity to attack and kill him.

The Grand Master had no forms of defense other than the sword in his hand. But her black gas did not seem to dare to make a move. He walked to her, squatted down, and wiped the black blood on the corner of her lips with a finger.

It stained his fingertip. Ji Yunhe's bright red eyes stared at him, and watched as he focused on the blood.

"Refining a human into a demon, it is rare indeed." Ji Yunhe asked, "What do you mean?"

The Grand Master did not answer her, but reached out again and threw a pill into her mouth. Ji Yunhe, unprepared for his sudden move, swallowed it out of reflex.

"What did you give me?"

"Frost." Ji Yunhe's face changed slightly.

The frost poison was made by the Grand Master to specifically deal with demon masters. Any demon master ingesting it would die a miserable death. It gave the court absolute control over them.

"You want to kill me?"

"I don't want to kill you." The Grand Master looked at her as if she were a rock, a corpse, an object without life.

"I'm just trying it out on you." Using her to test his poison... Ji Yunhe sneered.

"How many times have you tried this poison on someone? Why bother wasting it on me again?"

The Grand Master looked at her, waited quietly for a moment, and said, "Yes, it's been tried countless times, and the demon masters always died violently..." He stood up again with a condescending posture.

"You are the first exception."

You are the first... These words, and this situation, surprisingly made Ji Yunhe feel somewhat familiar. She abruptly remembered after Qing Shu and Lin Canglan first fed her poison, they said the same thing. She was the first...

"It appears something new has been created."

The Grand Master's lips slightly turned into a smile, and his normally inexpressive face showed some interest. And Ji Yunhe finally started to care about what had happened to her.

"I took the frost poison, and did not die?"

She did not care before because she thought she would definitely die on this day without the antidote. But yet, not only did she not die from it, she also did not die from the Grand Master's frost poison... Her body...

"Why have I grown nine tails? What is happening to me? What is refining humans into demons?" Her eyes lit up as she finally started pondering over this broken, rotten life of hers again. Because she now had hope of a future. And she wanted to grasp onto this hope, no matter how slim it might be.

"The frost poison only kills demon masters, because it only works on people with a double pulse. But now you also have demonic power inside of you that dissolves the poison," The Grand Master said.

"Someone has turned you into a creature that is neither human nor demon."

"Neither human nor demon… having spiritual power in combination with demonic power," Ji Yunhe murmured softly.

"Why? Lin Canglan... Qing Shu... fox demon... monthly pills..."

Past events flashed through her mind. After they first fed her poison, Qing Shu used to follow her for a few days and observe her. After a few times, she seemed to no longer care as much.

Qing Shu was a fox demon of tremendous power. No one had ever seen her true form and no one knew why a demon such as her would submit to Lin Canglan. And the night she and Lin Haoqing killed them, a Valley Master and a legendary fox demon, defeated without a sound. They both died so easily...

All the unanswered questions in the past now bubbled to the surface. She touched her body.

When she fought on top of that cliff protecting Changyi's escape, she suffered so many cuts and slashes, took so many arrows, yet her injuries all healed. With wounds like that, she should have died a long time ago. This healing ability was in fact very demon-like. And right before Qing Shu died, she said Lin Canglan had a great cause...

His great cause, was it to refine humans into demons so as to resist the frost poison? So the demon master tribe… could once again stand at the top of the world…?

"Ji Yunhe, I will remember your name." The Grand Master looked at her.

"You are strange, and new."
