Chapter 23

The sun was shining through the windows as the rays lighted up Emily's room causing her to stir from her sleep, as today there was a self-studying exercise done by the school she had the thoughts of sleeping in but the sun simply wouldn't allow it. She got out of bed and went straight to freshening up, she wore a solid white tee shirt, jeans material shorts and a black leather jacket for the day. She looked herself in the mirror and said in a resolute tone, "I have to do it today. No backing down, I am not a coward!".

Her breathing was quicker than usual and she had on a determined look. She slowly made her way to her 'father's' private room which was located in a secret section of the mansion, the area around the room was designed to be like a maze, if one simply took a wrong turn they will be lead to the entrance of the maze again and again until they gave up. Emily memorized the whole maze and every different pattern and combination there was to the maze as different traps were set and every day the maze changes, the walls aren't fixed concrete walls, they are more like pieces of huge metals, it was all programmed to change the maze daily.

Emily walked into the maze confidently and took every turn and avoided each and every trap that was set, after 15 minutes of walking she finally reached a huge black door. She took a deep breath and prepared her heart for what was going to happen next and went forward to knock on the door. . . A few minutes went past and finally, a voice answered.

"Come in."

She twisted the knob, pushed the door inwards and took a step in. She was trembling deep down but tried her best not to show her weakness especially in front of the devil himself as the devil exploit all weaknesses the victims show.

"Are you here to hand in the report for completing your mission?" The man's voice was rigid and intimidating, his expression was even more so.

"About that father, I-I am afraid I am unable to do t-that. . ." Emily was slightly trembling even though she tried hard to hold her ground, the man before her was simply too strong, everything about him screams danger.

The man raised his eyebrows in surprise as no one has ever dared say such things to him before. "What did you just say?" He asked as if daring Emily to repeat what she had just said earlier.

Emily did not back down even though she felt her heart about to jump out of her chest, she clenched her fist tight and repeated.

"I am afraid I am unable to do that father, Alvin has done nothing wrong, if you want to take over his father's business don't implicate him for he is innocent." As she spoke she felt a boost of confidence and she held her head up high and looked directly into the eyes of the man before her.

His body was shaking with anger and his hand strikes down hard on the coffee table by his side which almost caused Emily to flinch.

"So this is how you repay me for raising you?!" He bellowed and glared at Emily but seeing as to how she stood there with a determined look to not back down, he changed his tactic, he calmed himself down and had on a smile.

"Father, Alvin isn't a bad guy, all he had ever done is be nice to me, please don't drag him into this."

"You have no rights to negotiate with me, you will be blacklisted from now on, you are grounded for as long as I live so don't you ever think about getting out." As the man said that Emily's eyes went wide and glared at the man with hatred if looks could kill he will be long dead by now.

"Bard and Bronson get in here." 2 burly guys walked into the room and he looked towards them and said.

"Take her away and make sure she doesn't leave this house." Once those words left his mouth the 2 guys approached her and each grabbed one of her hand but she hurled their hands away.

"I can show myself the way out." Emily gritted out and walked off with the 2 guys following behind her making sure she won't leave the house. She rushed back to her room and slammed the door in the face of the 2 guys as they tried to force their way in, "Stay out or I will kill myself in here." Once they both heard what she said they could only simply comply and quietly stayed outside, no matter adopted or not she is still a Chessity so they won't be able to hurt her. She hurled herself onto the bed and started wailing, wishing that she could get away from this life and live a simple teenage life.

"Alvin, please, save me. . ." That was the last thing she said before she fell asleep due to exhaustion after crying too much.

Carly's P.O.V

"Gosh, I am so bored! Why must there be such a thing like a self-studying exercise?" I was whining and complaining to Ricky after he got back to the pack house in the morning, he was gone along with Ryder and my dumb brother for the whole night and they wouldn't tell me what were they up to. The Shadow Claw pack members have been settled down properly and some of our pack warriors even found their mates. I was sitting beside Ricky while eating butter cookies and looking at my laptop on the lecture videos the teachers posted for us to watch it at home for self-studying purposes.

"Babe at least we get to spend time together right, so this is sort of a good thing." Ricky carried me up from my seat and plopped me down on his lap. With that, I was satisfied and went quiet.

"Rick, I miss Emily, can we go find her? We can ask her to hang out!" I started bouncing on his lap as I got excited over the idea.

"Sure, why not but babe, you might want to stop bouncing on my lap or you might need to help me deal with a problem down below." He wiggled his brows and chuckled.

I didn't understand what he was saying but that was when I realized something hard was poking my butt. My face was getting heated and I blushed bright tomato red.

"Rick no teasing! My brother already said, no mating until I am 18!" I said shyly with my face against his chest.

"B-but my wolf and I want you so bad, but, fine you are worth the wait." When he said that my heart melted, this guy in front of me simply amazes me time and again when I thought he couldn't get any sweeter he just has to outdo himself.

"I love you, Rick." I gave him a light peck on the lips and stood up from his lap.

"Okay go, go get ready I will go get the car ready." Ricky got up from the couch and went in the direction of the garage.

I went to pick out a casual outfit and contacted the school's registration office lady, the phone rang twice before someone picked up.

"Ms. Wendy, Carly here! May you please send me the details of Emily the new student to me, thank you."

"Good morning Miss Hartgrove, the details will be sent to you in a moment, I am glad to be of service." The lady through the phone spoke courteously, a moment went by before a notification bar popped up on my phone notifying me that the details were sent over already.

Since my brother and Ryder are both asleep it is a good time to go visit Emily as it means she will have more time to spend with me rather than my idiotic brother and Ryder! I skipped over to the garage to find Ricky in the driver's seat with 2 guys at the back seat. I got in the car and had a better look at the 2 dudes, I guess my hope of wanting to spend more time with my friend is not possible, my brother and Ryder were both in the back seat.

"Sorry babe, I didn't expect them to follow." Ricky apologized.

I sighed and looked towards him, "It is alright Ricky lets just go already, these 2 retards are just going to have to deal with my singing throughout then." Ryder was hugging onto a bear and sleeping while Alvin put on his earpiece and watched some show that was playing on his phone totally ignoring me.

"Let's just go already." After hearing that, Ricky sped off.

I can't wait to see how Emily's family is like!
