Chapter 34: Out-bidding The Other Faction

"The Last Item to be auctioned off today is the Nemean Lion's Fur Coat. The starting bid is 30 million gems." 

Yurika announced from the stage of the Auction House. 

"I bid 40 million gems for this fur coat." 

Noctis looked around to see an elite orc player bid for the fur coat. 

Let's see how this develops. The Orc Guild belongs to the Majority Faction, and his brother used to clash with, and often kill Orc players from the Majority Faction for trying to get into his way. The Orcs are strong, muscular and tanky, with great defense, attack power and strength, but they are slow due to their size, so the speed stats of the fur coat will be just a minor boost. 

Noctis thought to himself. 

"I bid 100 million gems"

An elite goblin player from the Goblins Guild countered. 

The goblins also belong to the Majority faction. 

They are said to be extremely rich, hoarding a lot of gold and jewels in their headquarters. 

They specialize in sneak attacks and setting up ambushes, making the most use of their small size and super fast speed. 

But they are weak when it comes to head-on battles with an opponent that focuses on strength and critical attacks. 

"Weird. Why would that goblin bid for a coat too big for him to wear? Goblins don't have much critical attacks, defense, and strength, and they focus on using speedy sneak attacks, so only the speed stats of the coat will be of much use to them." 

Noctis remarked. 

" You're not seeing the big picture here. The entire Majority faction is in cahoots with each other, trying to get the Lion's Coat and not giving way to the Minority Faction after those players from the Minority faction beat them to it in obtaining the first two legendary class items first. "

Yuusei replied. 

" At this rate, someone from the Majority Faction will obtain the item if the elite werewolf player just sits around and does nothing. "

" I'm sure the werewolf player is taking advantage of the situation right now, and is actually getting the benefits by doing nothing, only to outbid them all in the end."

Noctis just shut his mouth and watched the intense bidding for the fur coat, hoping against all hope that Yuusei's prediction might be correct. 

" I bid 200 million gems. "

An elite demon player countered. 

The demons are capable of a wide range of magic, starting from arcane magic down to ancient summoning magic. 

They also possess great strength, have a formidable defense, and can dominate the battlefield with their immense attack power. 

It's a pity that the Demon Guild managed by the archdemon Beleth chose to side with Morrigan. 

 Noctis noted to himself as he observed the demon, who's currently in his human form, return to his seat. 

"I bid 250 million gems" 

An elite tank player from the Vicious Oblivion Guild named Hayato Kanzabaro countered. 

So that's the elite tank player of the Vicious Oblivion Guild, an elite Guild allied with the Necromancer Guild.

His shield got decent defense with a defensive star of up to 80%, and it comes with a passive, which is the ability block and negate up to 40% of magical attacks aimed at him, and his greatsword got 80 strength, 84 % attack power while his complete set of armor can deflect 40% from ranged attacks and 30% from magic spell attacks,while having an overall defense of 86%. Not bad for an elite tank from an elite guild who belongs to the other faction. Too unfortunate that my weapons have better quality than his, and my magic spells are more destructive than most of the elite battle mages of RPG Fantasia. However, right now, he is like a brick wall, since he has a higher level than me. Perhaps it will change later on. 

Noctis thought while sizing up the elite tank player from the other faction, and calculating who might win if they ever fought. 

"I bid 300 million gems" 

An elite archer-mage named Seta Tariko from the Poison Brawlers Guild, an elite guild also allied to the Necromancer Guild, replied. 

True to their guild name, the guild specializes in using powerful poison magic and weapons coated with poison. 

They are second to almost no one else in the entire RPG Fantasia for gradually poisoning their opponents to death in a fight. 

They are also said to be involved with sinister plots of the Majority Faction that requires someone to be poisoned to death when not in the battlefield. 

Noctis recalled what he knew about the Poison Brawlers Guild. 

I bet that girl uses arrows that with tips coated in poison, and her passive Poison Fog ability can cloak the entire battlefield with Poison, and saps the Hp of her opponent over time. 

She also got formidable poison spells, made even more deadly by her wand, which is said to be made from the wood of the poison sumac tree. 

Weapons made from animals or even plants that are naturally poisonous can enhance spells and abilities related to poison. 

Noctis thought as he pried his eyes away from the attractive yet fatal archer who just sensed him looking at her. 

I should be careful with that girl. She is said to seduce male players that she fancies, only to discard and poison them to death in the end. Humph. She, and the rest of the Poison Brawler Guild aren't the only ones capable of using poison to their advantage. I'd like to see the shocked looks of their faces if someone fights their poison with poison, if our paths cross one day. And I'll eventually encounter them often in the higher stages. 

"I bid 900 million gems for this fur coat" 

An elite werewolf player from the Vampires and Werewolves guild said, to the dismay of those who tried but failed to prevent the Minority Faction from obtaining the last major item on auction. 

"Are there no more bidders? Congratulations to the Werewolves and Vampires Guild for obtaining the Nemean Lion's Fur Coat. The auction has now officially ended. Thanks to our most valued players for attending and bidding on the items and weapons on the auction. "
