SIDES OF A COIN

On the roof of the NYPD, Stacy locks the entrance as multiple cops loyal to Harry try to knock down the door. Stacy quickly runs over to the Spider-Bat signal and turns it on, but it soon goes out because of the long nights being left on. Stacy sighs and pulls out his gun as Harry's Enforcers soon makes there way through the door, aiming there guns at Stacy.

"Should have known better, Stacy. Now we nail you to the precinct door. By order of Mayor Osborne."

Stacy scowls at them and aims his gun back at them.

"Just try me. You punks."

At that moment, before any shots are fired, three batarangs are thrown, disarming the enforcers. Spider-Bat then lands on top of the signal, making Stacy smile. Peter jumps into the air at one of them, grabbing him by the shoulder, flipping over him and throwing him into the wall. Another enforcer tries to throw a punch, but Peter catches it and throws him into the other man, taking them both out. He then turns to Stacy.

"Sorry I'm late." Peter tells him.

Stacy chuckles.

"You're right on time if you asked me. Mayor Osborne's lost his damn mind. His enforcers have overrun the city. Apparently our new mayor doesn't care much for dissent. He's ordered a purge of every honest cop we have left... which isn't many."

Peter can't help but feel conflicted about his former friend.

"Osborne needs help. But first he needs to be stopped before he hurts the innocent."

Stacy sighs.

"I know you probably don't believe it, but he was a good kid once. Him and Gwen grew up together. I just don't get how he could fall so far."

Peter then remembers what Norman said all those years ago.

"All it takes is one bad day." Peter says.

"I don't want to believe that." Stacy replies.

Gun fire is heard down inside the precinct. Both Peter and Stacy run to help the officers in need.

When they make it inside, they see a cop being pinned down by gun from three enforcers.

"Follow my lead." Peter tells Stacy.

He then shoots out a taser web, shocking one of the men. Peter quickly charges at the last two standing, grabbing one of them by the face and slamming him into the wall. The last one standing aims to shoot, causing his spider sense to go off. He dodges the bullets fired at him, flips into the air and kicks him in head knocking him out.

Another man comes out, but before Peter can take him out Stacy shoots him. They then see a cop on the ground, shot.

"In the lobby... they can't hold out much longer." The injured cop tells them.

"Stay with her." Peter tells Stacy as he runs to the lobby.

In the lobby, multiple good cops are down while Montoya and Bullock are out numbered and about to run out of amo. At that moment, Peter jumps down from the stairs and kicks an enforcer to the ground.

"Bout time he showed up." Bullock says.

An enforcer takes aim at Peter, but Montoya quickly shoots them. Another enforcer opens fire on her, causing her to take cover. Peter quickly shoots a web onto him, then throws him across the room. Multiple enforcers begin to surround Spider-Bat, aiming there guns right at him. Before they can shoot, Peter throws down a smoke bomb. As the room starts to fill up with smoke, the enforcers start to shoot blindly in the middle of it.

While they continue to shoot, Peter shoots out taser webs at two of them, knocking them out. He then jumps out of the smoke and slams the other enforcers head into the the desk near by. The last one standing points the gun at the back of Peter's head.

"Game over, freak." He says.

"Heard that one before." Peter replies.

The hero quickly disarms the man, sweeps his legs from under him and slams him into the ground, knocking him out.

As all Harry's men are taken care of, Stacy, Bullock, and Montoya make there way to Spider-Bat.

"How many casualties?" Stacy asks.

Montoya looks at him with a sad expression.

"Too many, sir." Montoya replies.

Stacy sighs.

"Damn it." He says.

"Believe me, Commissioner. Osborne will answer for this." Peter says.

"If you don't take him down, I'll tear him apart myself." Bullock says.

At that moment a voice comes through Stacy's radio.

"Commissioner Stacy. Stacy, come in!" The voice yells.

"Officer Kelly. Report." Stacy says.

"It's the mayor. At Parker Mansion."

Peter is surprised when he hears this.

"He's got hostages, and he's killing them one by one until Peter Parker shows. Says that if cops show up, he'll kill another. If Spider-Bat shows up, he'll kill them all."

"Kelly, get out of there!" Stacy says.

"Sir, I-"

Another voice comes on the radio.

"I'll let the coin decide!" Harry says.

The radio is then cut off.

"Kelly? Kelly!? Damn it!" Stacy yells.

"Get the injured to a hospital, Commissioner." Peter says, shooting web and zipping out of the precinct.

On the roof top, Peter gets a call from the cave.

"Ben, are you safe?"

"Yes, I'm barricaded in the cave. Harry's men disabled the cameras."

"I have to face him. As Peter Parker. Otherwise he'll keep killing innocent people."

"Perhaps, going as Peter can be an advantage." Ben says.

"Let's hope so."Peter says.

He then hangs up.

"This all ends, Harry. Tonight." Peter says.

Meanwhile, Harry aims a gun at a man's head while flipping his coin. It lands on tails, allowing the man to live.

"Lucky. But someone has to die." Harry says.

The Mayor then walks over to a crying woman

"Are you volunteering?"

He then aims the gun at the woman's head, but Peter walks in just in time.

"Harry!" Peter yells.

Harry smirks.

"Pete. About damn time!" Harry yells.

Harry lowers the gun away from the woman and walking over to ledge up stairs.

"I didn't think you'd show. Not after you weaseled your way out of the death you deserved." Harry says.

"Harry, please. Let these people go. I'm here now, this is between you and me."

"Oh you really think it'll be that easy? And here I thought you were smart, Peter. I wonder how smart you'll be with a bullet in your head."

"Listen to yourself! This isn't you."

Harry stares at the gun and at his friend, soon feeling conflicted about what he's doing.

"Wait... what am I doing? I've tried to fight it, Pete... but I can't. Peter I only wanted to help New York. After what happened to Gwen... Now look at me. I can't stop him."

"I've known you for a long time, Harry. My whole life. You are stronger than your demons."

"I could always count on your friendship, Pete."

Harry's expression then changes.

"Until... what happened with Felicia. The city needs to be purged of people like you! All of you!" Harry yells.

He then aims the gun at another hostage who's a police officer.

"Harry, don't do this!" Peter yells.

"This is the only way to clean up this city!" Harry replies.

He then flips his coin, and as it lands on heads he shoots the cop in the head, horrifying Peter and everyone else. As Harry is distracted, Peter runs upstairs. Harry snaps out of it and quickly grabs a woman, putting the gun to her chin.

"Stay back!" Harry demands.

"Oh God, please don't." The woman pleads.

"Harry. No more. Please, no more." Peter says.

"No more!? I'm just getting started!" Harry yells.

Harry then aims the gun at Peter.

"You... you were Harry's friend. He thought you'd save this city together. But he... He was a fool for believing in you!"

Peter quickly grabs a walkie-talkie on the ground and throws it at Harry's head, freeing the woman. As she runs away, Peter slowly approaches Harry.

"That's enough, Harry."

Harry covers his face, surrendering to his friend.

"You're right."

Harry then charges at Peter, pressing the gun against his head.

"Two faced move, I know... but sometimes. You have to make your own luck. One last call... A bullet in the head... or one in the heart. I'm feeling pretty good about those odds."

Harry flips the coin into the air, but Peter catches it before Harry can see if it landed on heads or tails. Harry starts to panic.

"Give me the coin! I need... I need the result! Where do I shoot!? DROP THE DAMN COIN!" Harry demands.

"No." Peter says, putting the coin in his pocket.

Harry starts to fully looses his mind.

"Without the coin... I don't know what to do! I need the coin!"

Harry charges at Peter, but the hero flips him to the ground. While Harry was on the ground, he clutches his head.

"Peter... I don't know what to do. I can't decide. It's too much. It's too much... I can't..."

As Harry starts to cry, Peter kneels down, putting his hand on his shoulder.

"A safer New York, Harry. Just like you wanted."

Soon more cops come and take away Harry. As they do, Harry glares at Peter.

"Wherever they put me. Whatever they do... I'll get out. I'm coming for you, Parker. Nowhere is safe for you!" Harry says.

Peter looks at his friend with sadness in his eyes.

"I'm going to do everything I can to help you, Harry. I promise."

Harry is shocked when he hears this.

"Peter... I'm sorry. I'm- so sorry." Harry says as he's taken away.

When he's gone, Peter sees one Harry's election cards on the ground. He picks it up and sighs looking at it, wishing that things could have been different. The young man then feels a hand on his shoulder. He turns around and sees Commissioner Stacy behind him.

"You alright, son?"

Peter tries to brush off what he's feeling.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just a few scrapes and bruises but nothing major. Guess I'm tougher than I thought." Peter replies.

Stacy looks at him with concern.

"That's not what I meant."

Peter sighs.

"I know. I'll be ok, Commissioner. Honest. You guys can let yourselves out when you're done, I think I owe myself some sleep."

As Peter starts to walk away, Harvey Bullock approaches Stacy.

"That kid can not catch a break." He says.

Stacy doesn't say anything, agreeing in silence.

Before Peter can leave the room, he is approached by the woman who he saved from Harry.

"Mr. Parker. Thank you so much. You saved my life. You are a hero."

Peter smiles at the woman.

"Thank you, but I am no hero. I'm just glad you're alright." Peter replies.

He then walks into his study, closes the door behind him, and goes down to the cave. When he arrives, he takes off his glasses as Ben looks at him with a worried look.

"Are you alright sir?" Ben asks.

Peter doesn't say anything, silently walking over to his long time friend and hugs him, allowing himself to feel the grief of loosing someone else in his life.
