The Aeternus Universe

The year of humanity is 2415, and DDVR and VRMMORPG's are commonplace now. It's extremely hard for a new game to come out and be successful. The greats of these genres have ruled for a few centuries now. A new game is releasing soon, and it has promise to be one of those. The Aeternus Universe. A Virtual Reality game has what you would expect from a game in this genre. However, some things make it special. One of those being the exploration and adventure through galaxies and The Aeternus Universe. Other games in this genre take it to fantasy and medieval times. This is set in a universe where there are super advanced technologies, spaceships, and Mecha suits—lost Alien tech ready to be found and claimed. Some of these all come together. The story starts 2 days before the release of the game, and with our protagonist—a 20-year-old male by the name of Scott Autumn. He is one of the few jumping from the current major game to this one. Seeing its potential for greatness and chance to be one of the biggest games on the market.

Testing Death

{This story is a P-a-t-r-e-o-n exclusive. The link is https://www.p-a-t-r-e-o-n.com/easyread. Remove the dashes. Webnovel censors the word. I also have a basketball system story on my p-a-t-r-e-o-n if you wish to check it out.}

I make my way out of the shop and brainstorm ways to die in The Aeternus Universe. Many come to mind immediately. Jumping off a building, getting shot, provoking the local authority. The criminals are another option, piss off some of them, and I can see how death works. I don't want to go through the hassle of getting to the top of one of the buildings in Newton-14. Provoking the local authority seems like a good idea, but they definitely have ways to incapacitate someone without using lethal force.

At the end of that scenario, I could end up in some sort of jail. Who knows how sentencing works here? It could be a way to lose a character permanently. I'm not for losing this character, not after all the awesome things I can do now. I look down the path inside the spaceport and see the bounty hunters and mercenaries hang out spot. If anyone would kill me for the things, I'd say it'd be in there. I make my way over and enter the establishment. I get strange looks as I look around.

Most of the people in here are hardcore starfighter veterans with lots more experience than me. Finding a way to provoke one should be easy. Their egos are huge, after all. "Does anyone know who the biggest badest hunter in here is?" I ask a question to the room, and all the conversations stop. I look like a normal person compared to the people in here. People turn their gazes to someone in the corner of the room. A big guy stands up and makes his way to me.

It's a human for sure. He has a cigar in his mouth, and once in front of me, he blows some of it in my face. "Why are you looking for said person? You don't look the type of hunting the hunters. If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're asking for trouble." He isn't wrong about that. I can only hope that NPC's don't hold grudges against players that do them wrong. The most effective way for getting him to kill me is to piss him off, and I know just how to do that.

I take a single step back and smirk ever so slightly. "Please don't take this personally. I just need to find out some things that you wouldn't understand." He looks at me in confusion and takes a drag from his cigar as he's doing that.

I quickly kick him right in the nuts as hard as I can. He spits out his cigar and coughs multiple times before getting on his knees to catch his breath. Everyone stands up, and point's their guns at me, but he stops them with the raising of his hand.

He takes a second, and he makes his way back to his feet. He looks me in the eyes as he fixes his hat. "You are one crazy son of a bitch kid. I've never had someone walk up to me and kick me in the groin. Too bad I have to kill you. I sorta like that gusto." He draws his blaster and places it on my head. I smile and hold out my arms, waiting for him to fire. "You are missing a few screws, kid. Maybe the afterlife will be better." He pulls the trigger, and I feel a tingle on my forehead. I disappear in a cloud of glowing glass, and I see a screen.

[You have died!]

[The penalty of death depends on how you died. Since you died from a blaster shot to the head, you won't suffer any penalties.]

[Warning: There are ways to die here in The Aeternus Universe permanently, and your character gets deleted. Be careful out in that big wide Universe!]

I'm reconstructed, and I'm standing outside what looks to be a player respawn point. So death and its consequences are on a case by case basis. If I die from a blaster shot, then I don't suffer any penalties. I can assume that the more complex the death, the harder and bigger the penalty will be. If I get sucked into a black hole, then I'd probably lose the character I have right now.

I don't know if I can have multiple Primordium characters after I lose this one too. At least I found some things out. I wonder what will happen if my starship is destroyed. Will I lose it forever too? I'd rather find out about that.
