Umber pov :

Finally, the dreaded board exams were over, and I couldn't be happier! School life had its ups and downs, but I was more than ready to bid farewell to those scolding teachers. I don't know why, but it always felt like they had something against me. Anyway, no point dwelling on that now because guess what? I'm officially a college student! Woohoo!

But, you know, there's a tiny problem – making friends has never been my strong suit. It's like I have a mental block or something. Unlike those lucky people who can strike up a conversation without overthinking, I end up in a tangled mess if I even try. And to top it off, most of my friends are off to different colleges. The thought of not having them around feels like a punch to the gut.

My dad is convinced that Punjab College is the best option for me. Sure, it's got a big name and all, plus it's close to home – that's his main selling point. So, biology it is for my major! Yep, I'm going all-in to become a doctor. But here's the catch – I've always been that average student who barely studies for exams. I mean, who needs to fill pages and pages when you can pass by just writing a few lines? But now, I'm choosing a subject that's all about studying hard. Talk about irony!

The scariest part is the thought of being alone for two whole years. Two years! Can you believe it? I don't know how to make friends, and even if I try, I somehow end up arguing with people. Not a great track record, huh?

But hey, I've decided to change this year. No more of this all-alone nonsense. Tomorrow is a new day, and I'm going to face it head-on!

And so, the first day of college arrived. I must admit, I was a bundle of nerves and determination all mixed together. Stepping into that campus felt like stepping into a whole new world – intimidating yet exciting. I tried to look calm and composed, but my heart was racing.

I took a deep breath and thought, "Alright, Umber, you can do this. No more hiding in the shadows." I was ready to tackle whatever college threw at me, and who knows, maybe I'd even find some amazing friends along the way.

Little did I know that college life would be a rollercoaster ride of self-discovery. It was about to teach me that change isn't something to be feared but embraced. I was about to learn the true meaning of friendship, self-belief, and the power of stepping out of my comfort zone.

College wasn't just about academics; it was about exploring different aspects of life. From participating in cultural fests to joining clubs and societies, I was slowly stepping out of my shell. It was both terrifying and liberating at the same time. I stumbled along the way, faced rejections, and even had a couple of arguments, but I didn't let that deter me. Each experience taught me something new about myself.

As the semesters passed, I noticed a change in myself. I was becoming more confident, more open to trying new things. Sure, I still had moments of self-doubt, but I learned to embrace them as part of the growth process.

And you know what? I did find some incredible friends along the way – people who accepted me for who I was, quirks and all. They didn't mind my occasional awkwardness or my overthinking tendencies. They saw the real me, and that was more than enough.

College wasn't just about the classes and exams; it was a journey of self-discovery and forging meaningful connections. It taught me that sometimes, we need to take that leap of faith, even if it scares us. It taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of being true to oneself.

Looking back, I can't help but smile at the transformation I've undergone. The shy, uncertain girl who stepped into college has grown into a more self-assured and resilient person. And it's all thanks to the incredible experiences, the challenges, and the wonderful people I met along the way.

So, to all the incoming college freshmen out there – embrace the unknown, don't be afraid to be yourself, and believe in your capacity to grow. College is a whirlwind of opportunities waiting for you to seize them. And who knows, you might just discover the best version of yourself in the process. Here's to new beginnings and all the adventures that await!
