CHAPTER 55

"How sure are you that he's going to leave the hospital tonight?" Derek asked Tristan who just stood in the middle of the forest looking at a particular direction, the direction of Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital.

"Because even from here I can feel his rising bloodlust. He's up for another hunt." Tristan said and drew in a deep breath, reveling in the scent of pure unadulterated malice he was feeling from all over here.

They had decided on making Scott call out the Alpha like last time but Tristan had suddenly said that there was no longer any need to as he could feel the Alpha's rising negative emotions as the day towards its end.

Right now they were in the middle of the forest, waiting for the sky to completely darken and the Alpha to come out for his hunt.

They planned on pursuing the Alpha as soon as he left the vicinity of the hospital so as not to waste more time on a useless chase.

Malia was seated on the ground with legs crossed, clearing her mind and trying to get it to focus on the only task up ahead.

Derek looked at the two of them, unlikely allies that he never thought he'd have upon coming back to Beacon Hills.

"You know there's a high chance of us dying before he does, right? Are you sure you want to do this?" He refrained from asking whether it was worth it as he new that saying such would possibly anger Tristan.

"You know that this is the worst possible time to ask that, right? We're not dying, no matter what." Tristan said calmly.

Derek remained silent, not commenting on his arrogant words but asked something he was curious about. "Why are you so dead set on killing the Alpha? I can sense that it's because he attacked Malia, but is that the only reason?"

Tristan looked at Derek with narrowed eyes. "What are you trying to say?"

Derek smirked at the interesting reaction he got, almost sure of his thoughts because of it. "If the Alpha is dead and gone then Beacon Hills will return to how it used to be, which also means that it'll be that much harder for Allison to find out about the both of you. You don't want her to know, right?"

For Derek, he couldn't help but scoff at that idea since he, more than anyone, knew just how sick the Hunters were, even the ones that looked all too innocent like the girl they considered their friend.

He hated the Hunters with a burning passion, and couldn't help but look down on Tristan if the boy really was doing it for the Argent girl.

Tristan on the other hand was silent as Derek's question came from the left side, taking him by surprise.

When he thought over Derek's confrontational words, the answer was very clear to him.

"You're wrong. I'm not doing this for Allison. I will never put both mine and Malia's on the line for her." He said.

"If I had been late for a few seconds more, Malia would have been probably dead, and I want the Alpha to pay for that. While it is undoubtedly beneficial to the both of us that remain unknown to the Argents, we don't believe we can hide that long." He exhaled a foggy breath of air due to the dropping temperatures as the night got progressively darker.

"She will draw her weapon against us sooner or later, it's something we know as inevitable so we are prepared for it. So no, I'm not doing this for Allison." He clarified sternly.

Derek dropped it, whether or not he believed Tristan was another matter entirely but nobody cared.

Tristan was about to say something but he paused and looked in the direction he had been looking at before. "He's out. Let's get moving."

At that moment, Malia opened her eyes and it flashed its ethereal blue for a few seconds before it receded and lost its glow.

"I'm ready."

...

[Peter Hale POV]

Who would have thought that he'd survive the fire, at the cost of killing his own niece no less?

All he knew was that ever since he gained the slightest bit of consciousness after spending a few years in a coma, he became aware instinctively that a part was him was gone and what had filled the new hole was nothing but pure malice and black hearted hatred.

All he wished for was to sink his fangs into the neck of the person that burned his family alive and he knew just who she was.

Kate Argent.

More than anyone, she was the one he wanted to kill the most.

His desire for revenge was so strong that it had corroded all his senses that even the remorse he felt when he had killed his niece was short-lived.

He used to move with his baser instincts when he regained his consciousness but after killing Laura, he finally gained his sense of self.

He had regretted his actions after he calmed down but deep within his mind he knew it was something that had to be done to exact revenge for his family.

Thanks to his nurse, the very one he killed a few minutes ago, he was able to draw the Argents back to Beacon Hills and he was also pleasantly surprised when he saw that they brought their only daughter too.

Oh, how much will he enjoy seeing the despairing looks on their faces when he starts killing them one by one, not giving them time to grieve before striking the next.

Peter patiently had waited for himself to return back to his peak strength as a mutated Alpha before leaving his safe haven.

Now was time for the real hunt.

But before that, before any hunt can begin, a pack is needed. A pack was very vital, incomprehensibly so for any wolf and their hunt. The moon was their guide, the night their cover, and the pack their strength…

… and he already knew exactly who he needed for his pack.

His nephew, Derek, and the naïve boy, Scott McCall.

He could sense something in the boy which was why he had yet to kill him and sire a new beta. That and he couldn't afford to have his strength drop a degree due to losing a beta.

He knew exactly how to put the boy's mind on the right path and what better way except having him kill his best friend?

As Peter ran through the woods in his morphed state, his mind fleetingly drifted towards the boy he had fought before Derek had joined in.

That wasn't a wolf or any animalistic supernatural, and he definitely wasn't something that could be classified as a beta. He felt more. No, that was wrong. The boy started changing during the fight and the change became exponentially apparent after he sunk his fangs into Peter's neck and drank his blood.

The excruciating shock that Peter felt at that moment had felt as if it hurt more than any bite or slash he had suffered that night.

His red eyes shone with unbridled ferocity as he made a list of his prey for the night.

He promised himself that the next time he came across the boy he would make sure that he killed the boy.

…..

Three shadows ran through the woods and intertwining branches with familiar ease with murder in their eyes.

Being the fastest, Tristan led them in a full sprint as soon as he picked up that the Alpha was on the run.

He was thankful that he was now able to track someone with their residual emotions that lingered in the air even after they have left that place. The stronger the negative emotion is, the more he could pick it up with ease.

"Don't fall behind, we're almost there." He shouted to Derek and Malia behind.

Being already aware of Tristan's ridiculous speed, Malia had long increased her speed just to keep with at a certain level while Derek on the other hand was just surprised that someone as young as Tristan was already faster than him to such a degree because he could tell that the boy was still purposely running slow so that they could keep up.

The words he was about to say refused to leave his throat as he sensed a familiar presence that he had only recently gotten used to.

The Alpha.

The three of them turned to look to their left just to see the Alpha turning to run in the same direction they had been running in, courtesy to Tristan who had led them along the way he knew the Alpha would run into.

The air in the forest immediately became oppressive as they continued running with the Alpha while still maintaining their focus on him.

Looking at the beast running alongside them and feeling the heavy madness and hatred that surrounded, rage took over Derek and he became the first one to start the predestined clash.

"Why did you kill Laura, Peter?" Derek shouted at his uncle who was still in his beast form, fully shifting as he crossed the gap between them with a single leap.

"ANSWER ME!!!"
