Chapter 8 Buying a new skill [Edited]

The next morning, John looked at his small shelter, realizing it couldn't be considered a proper house as it only fit one person.

"I need to build a real home," he thought in his condition, because he really does not have any experience.

"Maybe I can try making a simple wooden hut." However, he wasn't sure how to go about it and pondered for a while, feeling a bit lost. Then, he remembered his system about some skills that he can bought, he says.

John clicked the shop panel and scrolled through the available skills.

There were many options, but he focused on finding building skills. As he continued to swipe through the options, he finally found the skill he had been searching for.

"I only have 30 points? I need 150 to buy this skill. I have to find a way to gather more points," John thought to himself. He opened the mission panel and saw a list of available missions.

John searched through the list of available missions and finally found some that he could complete.

"I can finally buy the skill if I complete this mission. With my remaining points, I have over 150 points," John spoke.

"But making these tools will also be helpful, so I'll choose these three missions to complete."

"First, I'll make a handmade knife," John decided. "That way, I can make the bow and spear more easily."

John knew he didn't have the carpentry skills to make a knife from scratch, but he remembered some basic knowledge he had learned in the past. He found a suitable bone from the boar he had hunted and began to work on it.

First, he used a large rock to carefully break the bone into the size and shape he needed for a knife handle. Then, he used a piece of sharp obsidian he had found earlier to carefully chip away at the bone until it was sharp enough to use as a blade.

It was a difficult and time-consuming process. After several hours of hard work, he finally had a sharp bone knife that he could use for various tasks for his survival.

Although it was not as refined as a knife he could make with carpentry skills, it was still functional.

"Finally done. Let's test it a little," I said as I finished making the knife out of the boar's bone, after receiving a notification from the system.

I then tried to skin a stick with it, and to my satisfaction, it sliced through the bark with ease, leaving a clean cut.

"It's sharp. This will be good," I muttered to myself, satisfied with my work.

"I'll start making a wooden-bow now" i said with my newly-made sharp knife.

John went out to gather materials to make a bow. He looked for a straight piece of wood that would serve as the bow's base. After some searching, he found a long branch that looked promising.

He used his knife to strip off the bark and then started to shape the wood. He carefully carved the bow, making sure that it was symmetrical and balanced. He used sandpaper made from the bark of a tree to smooth out the rough edges.

Next, he searched for materials to make the bowstring. He found some sturdy vines and started to weave them together to create a strong and flexible cord.

Once he had the bowstring, he attached it to the bow.

"Finally done"

John also made some wooden arrows using the same method he used in making the bow. He gathered some straight and sturdy branches from the woods and used his sharp knife to shape them into arrow shafts.

He then sharpened one end of each arrow and fletched them with feathers that he found when gathering materials.

After making a good number of arrows, John tested his bow and arrows by shooting at some trees.

The bow was strong and the arrows flew straight, hitting the trees with enough force to pierce through the bark.

"Bulls eye"

"I'm finally finished creating the bow and knife, now it's time to make a spear," John declared.

"I already earned 50% EXP and 80 points, which gives me a total of 110 points. Just one more mission to go and I'll be ready to buy that carpentry skill."

"Which kind of material should I use for the spearhead?" John pondered for a while

"Should I make a spear with a wooden tip, or use bone to make it sharper and more durable?"

After considering his options, John decided to make the tip of his spear out of bone to increase its damage potential.

John picked up the remaining bone of the boar and began working on it. He used his hand-made knife to shape the bone into a sharp point.

He made sure that the tip was properly attached to the wooden stick he had gathered earlier.

After some time, John was finally done making his spear. He tested its sharpness by thrusting it into a nearby tree, and it went in smoothly.

"Wow, it's so sharp. My decision to use the bone for the tip of my spear was a good one," John said, admiring his work.

"Finally, I've completed my mission," John exclaimed with a sense of accomplishment. "I now have enough points to buy the carpentry skill."

He eagerly opened the system and clicked the "yes" button, watching as the points turned to particles and his balance went down to zero.

Suddenly, John was flooded with a vast amount of information about carpentry - its tools, techniques, and applications.

"Finally, I can make my home a little better now," John smiled in satisfaction.
