Chapter 3: The viper and the cursed.

Samuel dodged an arrow that swooshed past his ear and he stabbed a knife at the assassin with a bow but the assassin parried the attack with his bow before throwing a kick at Samuel. But Samuel grabbed his leg and he pulled him towards him before throwing him down from the roof they were fighting.

The assassin yelped in pain as he landed on his back then he struggled to get on his feet and escape but his movements stopped when a knife that was thrown by Samuel pierced his neck. Samuel jumped from the roof, landing beside the dead assassin and he removed his knife from the assassin's body and he walked towards Kora who was fighting the last assassin.

Samuel noticed that law enforcers had already arrived at the scene so he ran towards Kora to help him kill the assassin but before he could get to them, the assassin took a gas bomb and he threw it on the ground and green, poisonous gas filled the street after the bomb exploded.

Kora and Samuel quickly escaped the street as the law enforcement officers swarmed to the scene.

They both went to another street in the city to get a room in a small motel to lay low and communicate with Iver.

" We were ratted out." Samuel said as he took off his clothes.

" Yeah, I am sure we have enemies waiting for us at the house of the law maker." Kora said as he activated a magic tool that looked like a ball to communicate with Iver.

" Hello Iver." Kora started.

" Why the call? I am busy right now." Iver responded.

" We were attacked."

" What?" Iver's voice suddenly got serious.

" Assassins and they had the law enforcement officers on it too." Samuel added

" Continue with your mission, my men at the Target house will sweep the house to check for enemies." Iver said and he ended the call.

" Here's the blueprint of the target house." Samuel laid the blueprint on the only table in the room.

" The mirror we are assigned to steal is in his late daughter's room which is downstairs and no security is assigned to the room and that's where we come in. The mirror is important to the target because the target claims he still speaks with his daughter when he sits with the mirror every night." Samuel gave the mission overview and Kora listened intently as he placed his back against the wall.

" He sleeps with the mirror so we have to steal the mirror before he goes there and that will draw him out and our mission will be done." Samuel said.

" We move at night." Samuel added and Kora nodded in response.

At night, that same day, Samuel and Kora laid on the roof of the house next to the target house.

" We are going in through the roof, remember, easy and quiet. We don't want noise, we can't handle the security around the house." Kora instructed as he and Samuel covered their faces with black clothes.

" We have fifteen minutes before the next shift, which means we should be done in fifteen minutes." Kora added and they jumped on the target roof.

Samuel cut the roof and the ceiling below with a small axe before jumping down into the house silently with Kora, they both treaded carefully, avoiding guards as they headed to the room where the mirror is.

As Samuel led the way, he saw a man walk towards them and he signalled to Kora and they both froze as they watched man walk through the dark passage before turning into another room.

" That's the target." Kora whispered.

" Yeah, let's go." Samuel said.

" We could kill him now and end the whole mission." Kora added.

" That's not our mission, we have wrong information in the first place. He's not supposed to be at home and killing him might cause so much noise we can't handle." Samuel responded before they heard a steady clicking of boots heading towards them and they saw a guard also turn into the room the target was in.

" Let me be! Yelena needs me here, she needs me!" The target screamed.

" Sir, you have to go back to bed." The guard responded loudly.

Taking their exchange as a cue, Samuel and Kora headed to the room and they took out the large mirror and quietly headed to the roof they came in from. But on their way, they heard screams from the target and they slowly approached the dark passage where they met the target earlier.

When they got there, they saw the guard with the target earlier, laying on the ground, dead.

" Fuck." Samuel whispered as he took a knife from his belt.

Then they saw a woman kneeling over the dying target and she delivered the final blow by stabbing his left eye with a knife with a red engraving on the hilt that shone in the dark. The target screamed loudly and the guards quickly headed upstairs, the woman that killed the target looked up and she saw Samuel and Kora, rooted to the ground.

" Leave before they get here." The woman said in a familiar voice before throwing a knife at Samuel and Kora which they both dodged but the woman had left before they looked up.

" Let's go." Kora said and he dropped the mirror which shattered into pieces but Samuel picked a shard before leaving and they ran towards the roof they came in through.

" They are on the roof." They heard a guard mention as they exited the house. They jumped from the target roof to another roof and they landed in another street before running far away from the target house before lodging in another hotel, different from the one they stayed in.

" Call Iver and inform him." Samuel said but Iver's call came through before Kora could call him.

" What the fuck happened there?" Iver said over the magic ball, confused.

" We didn't kill him, Iver." Kora said.

" There was another party involved?" Iver asked.

" Yes."

" Did you recognize them?" Iver asked.

" It was the viper, they were the ones that killed the target." Kora said.

" What? Why is the league of dark ones involved in the killing of a local law maker?" Iver said.

" Get out of there, you witnessed them kill a target. They will want to shut you guys up." Iver said and he ended the call.

" They won't kill us." Samuel said.

" You have forgotten how the Viper works, they will find us and kill us." Kora said as he looked out through the window in the room.

" No, the woman that killed the Target is Taina, one of the bartenders we met today."

" Are you sure?" Kora asked, slightly surprised.

" Yes." Samuel said and he sat on the bed in the room before looking at the shard of the mirror in his hands.

He saw a little girl in the mirror smiling at him with blood drooling out of her dark red eyes and her lips that maggots were crawling into widening into an eerie grin.

" The mirror is cursed." Samuel shouted as he threw the shard on the floor.

" What did you see?" Kora said and Samuel shuddered in response.

The viper is the other name for the league of the dark ones which is a mysterious organisation that controls a large network of powerful assassins that leave a knife engraved with a red snake in their target body after killing the target. Majority don't know much about the organisation because the viper makes sure that all loose ends are tied.
