Evolution

"What's happening?" One of the Scientists asked in shock.

This wasn't the expected result they were supposed to have after someone uses the content of the syringe.

"He evolved. This shouldn't be possible, it's impossible for a human to evolve, even an Awakened isn't capable of such. We'll have to run tests once we get back." The leading scientist was shocked beyond words, but there was a glint of excitement in his eyes.

His project was working, although this wasn't what was supposed to happen, he didn't care! As long as he was able to get a result without the candidate dying, he was satisfied.

Growl…

Alan in his Silik form rushed over to the Siliks Veronica was fighting against and started attacking them as well. Veronica was a bit wary, but seeing that he wasn't attacking her, she focused on the Siliks, for now.

He didn't seem to be in his original state of mind and he attacked violently and brutally.

He got entangled in a close-range battle with the Siliks, fighting with his claws.

During the brawl, he opened his mouth and a white light formed on his mouth. It was none other than the energy beams these Siliks shoot out.

Boom!

He shot out an energy beam and it connected with one of the Siliks, sending it flying.

Bang!

The Silik flew for almost 100 meters before slamming into the ground, creating a dust cloud in the middle of the night.

The other Siliks never expected Alan would be able to shoot out energy beams from his mouth as well. They started shooting out light beams, but Alan was smaller than they were, so he had higher agility compared to them.

He moved around, dodging their attacks while attacking them from different angles. He wasn't stronger than they were, but he was faster, and for some reason, had a terrifying healing ability. Even the Siliks paled in comparison.

While the battle was ongoing, Veronica managed to send the Silik she was fighting flying before turning to the Scientists.

"Doctor, what's happening?" She asked the leading scientist, clearly confused.

"He evolved or mutated. If my assumptions are correct, the energy beam the Silik shot into his body is the cause of this. He died after taking the contents of the vial, but he was revived by luck." The leading Scientist explained his theory.

The Silik Veronica sent flying soon came back and attacked. She was unable to talk with the Scientists any further.

While Alan was fighting against the Siliks, Ezekiel finally opened his eyes. He looked around and recalled he was fighting against a Silik.

He hurriedly stood up, and seeing a smaller Silik assisting them, a look of confusion appeared on his face.

'What's going on?'

He looked back, and when he didn't see Alan with the Scientists, he panicked.

"Where's Alan?" He rushed toward the Scientists.

"There." The leading Scientist pointed at the smaller Silik.

"Where?" Ezekiel asked. He couldn't find Alan there, so he naturally had to ask.

"The smaller Silik." The leading Scientist replied with a smile.

"Wait, what?!" Ezekiel was stunned.

'How did Alan turn into a Silik?'

This was the only thought in his head. Humans and Siliks were two different species, from different planes and worlds, how the hell did Alan turn into one?

The leading Scientist recounted everything to him and he was short of words. Alan died, but because the Silik wanted to make sure he was dead, it attacked him once again and it made him mutate for some reason. This was almost unbelievable, he knew the Scientists wouldn't lie to him. And besides, why would a Silik fight its kind because of humans?

The fight between the Siliks continued, Alan had taken a few attacks, but he was still in a good fighting condition.

Veronica was focused on handling one Silik. The Silik Alan sent flying hadn't come back yet, there had been no movements from that side since it crashed there.

The Scientists watched the battle anxiously. Alan might've transformed into a Silik or something close to it, but he was still weaker than these ones. However, with him and Veronica around, these Siliks wouldn't be able to get to the Scientists.

The question was, how long could they hold on?

Bang!

Alan was sent flying by an attack for the first time since he transformed into a Silik. The Siliks didn't give him the chance to stand up as they rushed after him, hitting him on the ground repeatedly.

While one of the Siliks held him to the ground, the other one prepared an energy beam attack on its mouth.

Alan struggled, but he was unable to escape from the grasp of the other Silik. He opened his mouth and unlike the other Siliks that needed to prepare their energy beam attack, he attacked instantly.

The attack sent the Silik holding him on the ground flying into the air.

Bang!

The Silik slammed into the ground heavily, Alan sent another energy beam attack into the mouth of the one preparing its attack.

The two attacks collided and caused a huge explosion which sent Alan and the Silik flying.

They crashed over ten meters away from the sight of the explosion.

Ezekiel was worried about his friend, while the Scientists were worried about their test subject. No matter how they saw it, Alan was a very important specimen to them, they would even protect him at the cost of their lives.

Veronica was the only one left fighting against the Silik. When the Silik noticed that its companions had been defeated or injured, it didn't stay any longer. With an energy beam attack to force Veronica back, it fled.

Before going, it carried the two others. When it tried to take Alan as well, Veronica's water hand beat it to him, and she dragged him to their location.

Alan was still in his Silik form, and it was unknown if he would ever go back to his normal human form. According to what the leading Scientist said, Alan would stay in this state forever. Since it was a mutation that he didn't have any control over, there was nothing he could do to help unless he studied him for some time.

Ezekiel looked at the appearance of his friend. Still finding it hard to believe, but when he looked at the face properly, he could see the slight resemblance.
