Chapter 5 – The True Beginning

Once again, Griffin felt things go dark. He could feel his body lying down.

"Oh, maybe that was just a dream." Griffin thought the most reasonable thing.

When he opened his eyes, what greeted him was a series of blue screens that kept popping up.

"Ah, it doesn't seem like a dream."

Griffin stared at the blue screen before his eyes in disappointment. Though he thought it was better if this was all just a dream.

"Already up?"

Griffin glanced sideways. Isabella sat next to him, right in front of the bonfire.

"You've been unconscious for quite a while, but you don't seem to be in any serious condition." Isabella said as she put some small wood into the bonfire.

Griffin looked up at the sky. It was now evening, the sun was almost setting. He looked at Isabella's body.

"What about your wound? Didn't you just get bitten by Ferocious Hound?" Griffin asked as he looked at Isabella's healed body, as if the wounds from this afternoon had never existed.

"Well, you're new to the magic world aren't you."

Isabella suddenly stood up. Her body gave off a thin blue aura that covered her entire body.

"Besides skills, we can use magic for various things. One of them accelerates wound regeneration."

Isabella sat back down after removing the blue aura from her body.

"Even so, skills are generally more helpful in direct combat. Because the use of mana for ordinary magic is not very effective in a short fight. But in return, using skills drains more mana than using regular magic." Isabella explained at length.

"Wait a minute, didn't you say you ran out of mana this afternoon? Then how did you get to regenerate?"

"Mana can be filled by itself in a certain time range. Mana replenishment speed varies between mages, but mine isn't that slow."

Griffin nodded in understanding. This information could be of great help to him going forward. And maybe that also explains why Griffin's wounds were able to heal when he first woke up in this world. He had been shot twice before.

"Thank you."

Griffin looked at Isabella in surprise when he heard that word.

"What for?" Griffin asked.

"For saving me. If you hadn't helped me this afternoon, I would have definitely become the food of the ferocious hound."

"It is nothing. After all, you have helped me too. So let's just say we're even."

Both of them became silent for a few moments.

"By the way, what was that monster just now? Is a monster like that natural to exist in this place?"

Isabella shook her head.

"There are many monsters in the magic world, but they don't always attack humans. Except the really vicious ones. But the fire bunny and ferocious hound just now were sent to kill me."

"Killing you? What for?"

"Long story."

"I have enough time to listen." Griffin said enthusiastically. He was quite curious about this world and everything in it. Or to say, he needed information to survive in this place.

Isabella stared at Griffin for a moment before starting to tell her story.

"In short, I come from a place called Lirest, a fairly ordinary place in the magic world. But we often clash with Boaren, witches who live not far from where we live."

"Why do you two have a disagreement?"

"Because we have great resources. Lirest is a place that has a lot of magic plants. And some can be sold at very high prices. While Boaren, the wizards there are famous for their greedy nature. They have used up all the resources at their disposal. So, the quickest option they can choose is to take the resources from Lirest."

Griffin nodded in understanding. This power struggle is quite possible by greedy people. He had also encountered this incident many times when he was still in the human world.

"Although relations between the two sides are bad, we rarely deal with them to prevent war. But today, somehow they attacked me."

"What for? Why did they attack you out of so many people?"

"Because I'm one of Lirest's protectors. You could say I am a threat to those who want to attack us."

Isabella showed her hands.

"Though I didn't think they could seal my magic."

Griffin looked at Isabella's hands. Each hand has a red bracelet that has a strange aura.

"What's this?"

"Magic seal. They set a trap so most of my magic is locked away."

"There are things like this in the magic world too?"

"Yes, but it's actually quite rare and expensive. That's why I wonder how they can have this. Because of this thing too, now my level is only 10. And I'm only able to use one skill right now."

Griffin tried to digest the words just now. Everything in this world seems very complicated. The slightest mistake could take his life in an instant.

"Then, what are you going to do from now on?" Isabella asked

"I don't know, I don't know either. But for sure, I have to find my little sister."

"Your little sister?"

"Yeah, she was still with me before she fell to this place. So I guess she fell into this place too, but I can't find her."

Isabella seemed to think for a moment.

"In that case, there's a chance she didn't fall into this place." Isabella shared her opinion.

"You mean?"

"Honestly, I've never met a human who fell into the magic world, but I've heard about this a few times. There are many strange causes that keep the human world and the magic world connected for a while, but most of it causes humans to scatter to different places. So most likely, your little sister fell somewhere else."

Griffin became worried at that statement. If Evelynn really came into this world, then she was in danger. This world has too many strange creatures that can kill humans in an instant.

"If you have nowhere to go, how about you come to Lirest?"

Griffin was quite surprised to hear Isabella's question.

"You mean?"

"You have no place to live and know absolutely nothing about the magic world. Wandering in the middle of the forest will be very dangerous for you. So you better come with me back to Lirest."

"Why do you want to help me?"

"Because you saved my life just now. I don't want to be indebted to anyone else."

Griffin thought for a moment. Isabella's words made a lot of sense. And frankly, he wasn't sure he could survive in this place either. He had only been here a few hours, and he had already encountered a dog that was twice his height.

"If you don't answer I assume it is a yes. We're leaving now, it's best if we get to Lirest before midnight." Isabella got up and started to put out the bonfire, a sign that she was ready to leave immediately.

Griffin who had no other choice decided to take the sword beside him and follow this girl.

They started walking in the middle of the forest which was slowly getting dark.

"By the way, what kind of place is Lirest?"

"Ordinary place. The houses are similar to the human world, then trees and plants around. There's honestly nothing special other than wizards and magic plants. Well you'll find out soon enough, we'll be there in a minute."

Griffin stared ahead.

"Is it over there Lirest?" Griffin pointed forward.

They could see houses that were not too far away. It was quite similar to a city, but without the tall buildings, and it was surrounded by a forest with large trees.

"Wait a minute, why is there smoke?" Griffin asked as he saw a plume of black smoke rising from what Isabella called Lirest.

When Isabella looked up, she could indeed see black smoke from distance.

"Perhaps..."

Isabella immediately dashed forward very quickly. Leaving Griffin clueless.

Either way, Griffin knew it was a bad thing.

Griffin also ran after Isabella. As he got closer to Lirest, he could clearly see the condition of the place.

There were several spears stuck in the ground. Some of the places there also turned black, as if they had been burned. And as Griffin got closer, he could see several people lying stiffly on the ground. It was obvious they were dead.

When Griffin entered Lirest, he immediately knew what had happened.

There were hundreds of mages fighting each other with their magic. Conditions in the place were very chaotic.

There was a war in this place.
