Outrbeak (412 Words)

Awareness returns to Jenny's mind like a crashing wave and she quickly opens her eyes before scrambling to her feet.

A few quick glances at her surroundings told her everything she needed to know.

'It failed and went out of control.' With that in mind she dashes off to the nearest terminal while jumping over debris covering the once pristine white floor tiles.

Once in front of the installation covered in cracked or splintered screens and plenty of buttons, she quickly punches a rapid sequence of them until green lines of ones and zeros filled all the screens.

'It couldn't have gone far, it needs a host.' She resolutely pushes the rising panic aside as she continues entering one code after the other until finally everything turned red.

[EMERGENCY ALERT!!!]

[SHUT DOWN OF ALL TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES AND SEALING OF ALL MAJOR SECTIONS!!]

Jenny didn't stay on the terminal as the loudspeakers blast the message over the entire facility and inform the other members of the grave situation, they currently are in.

Making her way through the destroyed lab in which she awoke where a giant glass container is currently leaking slimy blue liquid out of one side that has been shattered from the inside, she arrives at the destroyed entrance.

Slipping through the deformed reinforced steel making up the door Jenny arrives in the section A main corridor.

A single look was enough to tell her where the thing went and she immediately sprints in the opposite direction.

'Its heading for the testing grounds, probably intending to change host to one of the more stable specimen.' A vicious grin spread across her dirty face.

'This means it didn't get one of the council or it would have gone this way.' Running down the still intact corridor for a while she suddenly skids to a halt and slams her palm against the plain white wall a good twenty meters away from the next door.

She feels a sting as the intrusive scan read the code carved into her bones and quickly retracks it once the space next the where she placed her hand opened up and revealed another corridor, this one cold and gray in color.

Quick on her feet Jenny makes her way down the secret path only the seven members of the council know about.

It took her a while, but she arrived in a circular space with a table in its midst and seven different colored vials placed around it.
