Hornet Queen Hive (875 words)

A small yellow and black striped blur flashes through a forest made up form giant trees and rocks.

Its four transparent wings flap rapidly, generating a humming sound while the two long antennas twitch as they take in all the different scents of its surrounding.

On guard against any daring predator, the little winged creature clacks its sharp mandibles while its big striped bottom twitches as if it couldn't wait to impale someone with its incredible sharp stinger that is loaded with strong poison.

The creature looks very similar to a normal hornet if there weren't its eyes. Instead of the normal black its compound eyes glow with a golden color and a clear light of intelligence shines brightly inside of them.

Maneuvering around the forest with great speed it pulls along its six limbs while scouting out the area.

This special hornet was in fact a queen hornet and not only that, possessing it is the soul of person who once lived a life as a human.

Reincarnated into the body of an abnormal hornet queen without a hive, the soul decided to full embrace its new life as an insect.

With grand goals which elude even the greatest insect on mind, the queen stared its journey flying off into the world in search for the perfect place to start its own hive and begin executing its grand plans.

The forest which she is currently scouting has shown itself as a great location, plenty of food, prey as well as plants was available, shelter too wasn't a problem.

But of course, in such a bountiful place there are bound to be bigger and much more dangerous enemies than only other insects.

Such an environment would mean a great and glorious rise for any insect colony, but its fall would be just as quick.

That is if the colony doesn't use… more unconventional means.

Arriving near a tall, almost monolith like rock, the queen stops before circling around the rock a couple of times assessing the location for a few minutes till she performs an almost unnoticeable nod and flies off to a nearby tree where she starts to use her mandibles to scrap off wood which she then stuffs into her mouth mixing it together with her saliva creating a sort of pulp.

Carrying the ball of pulp between her two front limbs the queen flies back to the monolith and places it on a protruding part of the rock which she is intending to use as the pilar of support for her future nest.

She repeats this multiple times, flying back and forth, but the queen doesn't just randomly collect tree fiber, no she always takes it from the same place, slowly digging a hole into the tree while at the same time building her nest on the monolith.

Once every day she stops working and flies around the area observing and probing different insects.

Thanks to her massive size in comparison to other insects she didn't encounter much danger.

Her focus when not hunting laid on more peaceful insects which feed on plants, she wants to find an insect race which she could turn into livestock.

A reliable source of food would benefit her latter greatly.

Days pass in silence as the nest on the monolith starts to take form.

Normally hornets would build a honeycomb like structure at the core of the nest where the larva would be placed and cared for, but this queen got other ideas.

The nest built on the rock was intended to be use as a storage and housing while the now considerably bigger hole in the tree was the actual brood place for the new generation of the hive.

In the storage nest the queen has already collected and stored some food in preparation for the brood which was sure to be requiring lots of food.

Another couple day pass and the queen finished the brood nest in the tree. She was careful to build it in a way which allows her to continue expanding it later on.

Transporting a part of the stored food over to the brood nest for convenience's sake the queen prepares for her first batch of brood.

Sticking her behind into one of the honeycomb tubes the queen grow still as she uses one of her unique and abnormal abilities.

In the mind of the queen a big screen appears with a long list of different insects which she has previously hunted and devoured.

The middle of the screen is filled with a detailed model of another hornet, but his one is a bit smaller than the queen especially its bottom.

Being the first time she entered this screen, she of course pondered for a considerable amount of time and spent an ample of it experimenting and testing around with the different functions of this ability.

After a long time the queen finished designing her first generation of brood in the screen and hits the finish button.

With that she felt how some parts inside her bottom part start to churn and change as if different parts adjust each other and slot into place.

Once the feeling of movement in her lower part stopped she kick started her reproduction organ.
