Chapter 4 - Meadows Town

Dune POV

I knew something was off, and I really did. I saw it in her eyes this morning; she was thinking about something. I wish she was more comfortable coming to talk to me. I will always understand, no matter what she says. I should have pushed her to talk today. Even when I woke up this morning, I felt uncomfortable—a nagging feeling that I was going to lose something today.

I was pounding on her bedroom door, trying to get it open. After about two minutes, I heard nothing inside and used my magic to break the door down, but it took too much time. By the time I was in the room, I could already see her through the window, running outside with a bag on her back. How she was able to move so quickly puzzled me a lot, especially considering the clothing she was wearing. I jumped out of the window using sand to catch my fall, but by the time I made it to her, she was already making her way out of the property on a horse.

I didn't know what was going on around me, but all I could do was look at her back and hope that she went somewhere safe. I could use magic, but I didn't want to hurt her.

All I could do was watch as Dad ran up beside me and whispered "damn it", under his breath.

Avyanna POV

She had now been travelling for about four and a half hours. She stopped twice: once to change into one of my training clothes and once to go to the bathroom. Riding a horse was very peaceful for her; it gave her time to think about what she wanted to do when she got to Meadows town. With the money she had in her bag, she would at least be able to buy a small live-in shop. She was just looking for a peaceful life for the next two years. Although she might go back sooner, she didn't want to miss Ash's and Dune's weddings if they found their soulmates. In all honesty, she doesn't know how long she will need. But within that time, she hopes to awaken. Or at least, be able to protect herself.

She snapped out of her thoughts as she started to see a small sign on the horizon that said "Meadows Town". She was excited, but she took her time to make it into town. She started to slow down as she made her way to the border of the town. She saw a few guards staring at her, a little bit confused. It made sense; they rarely saw visitors in this town. Not only did it border the Winter Territory, but it was also at the border of the Makutu Empire. While they were staring at her, she jumped off her horse and went to talk to them and see how much the fee to get in town was.

"Hi, how much is the fee to get in town without identification?" She said

The guard with dark brown hair blushed, and the other hit him on the back.

"It's your first time in Meadow, huh? There are no fees because the town is so small and almost no one visits us." He said a smile was forming on his face.

Avy smiled back. "Did I make it that obvious? Oh, it was rude of me; I haven't introduced myself. My name is Anna Brumal." She decided during the ride that she would use her name from her past life.

"Hello, nice to meet you. My name is John, and the one who can't stop blushing over there is Davis." When he said that, Davis looked over at him and started blushing even more.

"Nice to meet you, John, Davis. This might be a little bit too much to ask, but does someone mind showing me to the inn?"

Davis's cheeks started going back to normal, and he looked at me with an excited smile. "No problem; my family runs the inn, so I don't mind showing you the way. John, do you mind guarding yourself?"

"I don't mind at all; not much is happening here anyway, but make sure to come back soon."

Davis put his sword down to the side. "Sounds good. I will see you soon. I'm going to leave my sword here because I am going to bring food back."

John waved at both of them. "Bye-bye. Nice to meet you, Anne. Before you leave, make sure to try the bakery in town."

Waving back at him, she thanked him for his help and told him that she would definitely go check it out. On the way, she looked around at the peaceful village. She took a deep breath and took in the sounds of the forest and the laughter of small children running around.
