Mathew vs Us

Before Mathew could even reach Anthony, Rae, and Twili popped out of the thin air to cover Anthony's unconscious body. Rae had her pocketknife at hand and the blade exposed ready to fend off Mathew.

Mathew slowed down on his charge to assess the situation, he smiled at them and raised both blades at them while still charging.

"Ha ha! I have wanted to get my hands on Anthony since the beginning of class because I have found him extremely annoying, and I never really cared about the others. It is a shame though, I had always thought that you were so pretty Rae, I almost caught myself having feelings for you, but at last, you will have to die by my hand. You can be grateful knowing that it will be done by my hand."

"Not if I put an end to you first!" Rae responded.

"Do you think that you can beat me?!" Mathew grinned.

"Of course, I can beat you! With ease! You are not immortal, so that means that I can beat you!"

"Very well then, if you can beat me, I will reward you by sparing the lives of you and your friends, but if you cannot beat me, I will kill every last one of you!"

Mathew came to a hard stop, raised his right arm, and hurled one of his swords at Rae.

"Rae! Watch out!" I yelled as I charged to use myself as a human shield for her.

She is going to be a goner if I don't make it!

The blade missed Rae and landed beside her.

We all looked at the sword and back at each other.

Either he threw the sword at her to intimidate her, or he had some really bad aim.

"You missed me!" Rae shouted.

Mathew smiled at her, "It was not meant to hit you. It was meant for you to pick it up and face me. You can put away your precious little knife, it won't do you any good. Honestly, it is embarrassing to be carrying around such a delicate little blade."

I stood next to Rae while looking at the sword, "I will help fight him with you. You are not strong enough to take him on by yourself."

"I don't care how strong he is. I don't care if I am weaker than him or anyone of his goons. I have to try and take him down. I don't want my friends to go through anything bad again without me. At least this time I can help."

I smiled at Rae, "But we are not alone anymore. Everyone is here and we can count on each other."

"Alright, let's fight him together!"

"Twili, are you ready to help?"

"Always! Just say when." She replied.

I just could not believe it. Never did I ever think that the day would come when Rae and I would be fighting an enemy together side by side. Let alone a former classmate, Mathew, who ended up being a monster hunter, and is working with The Council. I need to keep in mind that he is not my classmate, but a trained assassin. He will not be an easy foe to take down. Rae and I are not skilled and have never been in a real fight before. The only way that I can think of that we could possibly win is by outsmarting him.

"LET'S GET HIM!" shouted Rae.

"Right behind you!"

As I was running behind Rae, I turned to look at Twili, who was running beside me, "I need you to pull Anthony into a safe spot and watch over him until he returns conscience, or until we win this fight. I do not need anything happening to him while we are away."

"Are you sure that you will not need my help?" asked Twili.

"No" I replied while grinning, "I will just go werewolf like you said, besides, Rae is a tough girl, and we will manage."

"Don't die, Skinwalker."

Twili ran back to get Anthony, and that would be one less person and wolf that I would have to worry about getting hurt. Anthony is useless to us the way he is. Bree is still shell-shocked. Wes is taking care of half the hunters somewhere in the woods, and Rae is charging at Mathew who is not even bracing for her attack. I need to come up with a way to get her out of here so that she can take the others and run away as far as possible. Only I at this point can possibly stand a chance against this guy, and neither of us is aware of what I am capable of.

Rae is standing right in front of him and swung the sword horizontally.

Mathew backed away and taunted Rae with every swing she made, "You missed me. You missed again."

"I would not be missing if you would stop moving!" she said angrily.

"I just cannot allow you to hit me either or would you rather I fight back to make things more interesting for you."

That is when I came up with an idea, Mathew is so focused on Rae right now, that he is distracted by her. I can use this to my advantage! All I have to do is wait for my chance and strike.

As Mathew and Rae's swords clashed, Mathew looked at me side-eyed and said, "So when will you be jumping in? Believe me, I am no fool, I know what you are doing. If you don't get in and help soon, I just might end her."

With that, he raised his sword and cut Rae across the right side of her cheek.

"Ouch! That hurt! You Bastard!"

What was I supposed to do now? Mathew saw right through me. I don't have a powerful spell to use on him as Anthony did, how can I stop him?

"What's wrong Paul? Still, having doubts about this? You should have known from the very beginning that you could not possibly win. Just face it and admit defeat, and I will end all of your meaningless lives."

I stood there, frozen, not knowing what to do. He is right, what the hell was I thinking? We are all going to die!

All I could do was watch Mathew swing his sword so gracefully and cut wounds on Rae's body.

"STOP IT!" I kept yelling at Mathew to stop slashing away at Rae.

But he didn't, and all I kept hearing was Rae gasping as Mathew kept cutting away.

Back and forth he switched his swords and changed his form, taunting Rae.

He would knock the sword out of her hands and have her retrieve it just so he could do it again. He would wait patiently for her to return with it as well as if he were playing fetch with a dog.

I do not like the look of this, and I do not know how much more Rae can take. He made it clear that he could kill her at any given second if he wanted to, but he is just toying with us.

I don't understand what can be so fun and hilarious about toying with people's lives like that.

Mathew once more knocked the sword out of Rae's hand, but this time he kicked her to the ground. He raised his sword in one hand to deliver the final blow, all while grinning from ear to ear.

I don't understand what can be so fun or hilarious about playing with people's lives.

It's sickening and I can't stand it any longer! I won't let him kill the girl that I like!

Just as I was getting ready to charge, a rock flew across the field and hit Mathew on the side of the head.

"Owwww! What gives?! Where are all these rocks coming from!" Mathew screams in pain while backing away from Rae.

"Your just an asshole! Picking on people just because you believe that you are better than us!"

"That's right! Wait until I sink my fangs into you! You will be sorry!" Shouted Twili.

I had lost my train of thought and was distracted by what just happened.

I looked over to my left to see that it was Bryanna that had thrown the rock. I was in shock that she was able to do something so bold right now. I would have thought that she would not have snapped out of it.

And what the hell is Twili even doing here? She should be keeping an eye on Anthony!

"I see that you chose to be next, you just couldn't wait your turn. I will be coming after you shortly as soon as I am finished with her! Be proud of yourself, because that is the only hit that you will be able to get out of me!"

This is bad! I am glad that Bryanna was able to save Rae's life, even though it was just for the moment.

All we managed to do was piss off Mathew even more. None of us stand a chance against him and the only one who can is Wes, but he is out in the woods dealing with half of his gang, but he probably doesn't even know that we are still here fighting a battle. I know he said to run away and expect us not to be here, but I just could run away.

Mathew raised his left arm and pointed a Bree while readying his sword in his right hand, "Are you ready to die?"

Rae moved in next to Bree to cover her and so did I. Both of us were in front of Bryanna while waiting for what was coming. Rae readied the sword that she had gotten from Mathew earlier, "Rae, can I use your pocketknife?" asked Bree.

Without breaking eye contact with Mathew, Rae reached into her pocket and gave it to her, "Just do me a favor? Make sure that you bathe that blade in his blood."

"I will" responded Bree.

I was surprised, Bree wasn't the scared girl she was when this all happened. She had turned into this brave person who was ready to die for us, a loyal friend until the end.
