Another dark night

Riya sat on the couch looking into space, she had already calmed Rick down and he was sleeping upstairs. She took a look at Elijah to see that he was more calm than usual, with his face lacking any expression.

"Are you sulking because I scold you for making Rick disappear?". She asked still staring at him.

"I don't have emotions, I don't feel sad or happy or angry". He said without looking at her.

Riya smiled inwardly knowing he was lying, she had seen him angry before, the night when the cloak fucker got into her house, he had burst into flames.

"Tell me about you Elijah". She said.

"When you fully regain your memories you'll remember me". He said with a hint of hurt in his voice.

Riya studied his face well to be sure she wasn't going crazy. She was sure she had heard a slight touch of pain or regret in his words just now.

" You do have emotions". She said smiling.

"I'm a skeleton, I definitely don't exist anymore, so I don't have emotions Meridith". He said.

"Hmmm". She said.

Riya smiled and just kept on reading the book of the prophecy. Just then, something flashed into her mind...

Uncle Elijah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Don't go about screaming like that Meridith, the whiteheads might hear you".

Riya gasped as she came back to reality and immediately Elijah was already by her side.

" Are you okay?". He asked studying her face.

"Yes sure". She lied.

He stood up and went back to sit down but still watched her closely. Elijah decided inwardly that he wouldn't ask her until she was ready to talk about what she remembered.

"We need to go back to see Voleth meir". He said.

"When?". She said still trying to regain composure.

"Right now". He answered.

"Rick isn't awake yet". She said.

"Let him sleep, we'll be back before he knows it". He said standing up.

Riya hesitated for a while but then her phone rang, she checked the caller and saw it was her Mum. She picked the call and placed it to her ears.

"Hey mum". She said

"Hey sweetie". Her mum answered shakily.

"Are you okay mum?, Are you sick?". Riya asked as Elijah started to walk towards her looking skeptical.

"There's a man here, he said you know each other". Her mum said.

"What's his name?". Riya asked.

"Adonis, my name is Adonis old friend". Adonis said through the phone.

Riya dropped the phone unconsciously in shock while Elijah started chanting something and he immediately held Riya's hand and they disappeared and reappeared two blocks from Riya's mother's house. Elijah and Riya ducked behind a car as Adonis opened the window in the living room and scanned the vicinity.

Even though, It was dark outside, Elijah knew clearly that they could easily be spotted as Adonis was not alone, he brought his demon toys along as expected.

"We have to go in". Riya whispered harshly with hot tears in her eyes.

"Patience, we can't just run in, we need the element of surprise". Elijah said.

"I have to try to save her, she's all I've got ". Riya said and ran towards the house in desperation.

When she got to the back door, she opened it quietly and slid in while Elijah followed suit. They walked into the kitchen and Riya took a peek in the living room and saw Adonis sitting comfortably with her mother tied and some demons hovering.

" Do you think me stupid, to be unaware of the presence of a distinguished powerful witch?". Adonis said looking in the direction of the kitchen.

"I see you've been socializing well Adonis". Riya said coming out from the kitchen and stepping into the living room with caution.

"That's as far as you go". Adonis said holding a silver blade to her mother's neck.

Riya stopped in her tracks as her mother continued to whimper and struggle.

"Keep him occupied". Riya heard a familiar voice in her head.

Voleth Meir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Focus". The voice said again and faded.

Riya immediately gained confidence knowing she wasn't alone in this and smirked.

"Ohh Adonis, how long has it been?, You don't seem to move on quickly". She said watching him closely, trying to provoke him to make a rash move.

"As usual Meridith, you're brave and bold". He said smiling.

Riya watched him closely weighing her options as he still had a knife to her mother's neck.

Suddenly, there was a burst of flames outside that seemed to light up the night and demons outside started to screech in distorted sounds. Riya immediately saw Elijah outside battling Adonis' demons he had obviously lured outside.

Adonis seeing this pushed Riya's mother aside and attacked her. He charged towards her but was intercepted by Voleth meir who chanted a spell and Adonis screamed and fell to his knees, Voleth meir continued to pin him down using painful memories he locked away to torment him.

Riya took the time to run to her mother who was still on the ground and still tied to the chair.

"I can't hold him much longer, we have to go". Voleth meir said with labored breathing as her nose started to bleed.

Riya closed her eyes and held her mum, she immediately felt something surge through her and when she opened her eyes the next place she found herself still holding her mum was her home in sleepy hollow.

She looked around and saw that it was still normal except the tapes at the attack scene, she helped her mother sit and tried to figure how she got here.

"Did Elijah send me here?". She thought out loud.

"You came here yourself". Elijah said from behind her.

"How". She asked looking shocked.

"It's the first place you trusted after home, the first place you called your own, it's pretty much sensible it'll be your first location for subconscious teleportation". He explained as he sat down and examined her closely.

"So my powers are really back". She thought out loud.

"Yes they're infact back". Voleth meir said appearing close to her and her mother.

Riya took a closer look at her and saw some few slashes obviously from her encounter with Adonis.

"Let me take a look at her". Voleth meir offered as she took closer looks at Riya's mother.

Riya looked at her mum who had been whimpering since they came here. Something was definitely wrong.

*What's wrong with her". She asked Voleth meir worried.

"She won't make it through the night ". Voleth meir said looking sad as she held Riya's mother's hands.

What????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Riya screamed.

"What do you mean she won't make it through the night?, Mum?, Mum please ". She said holding her mum close.

"I've missed you". Her mother said with teary eyes.

"Me too mum, please stay with me, I'll do anything " she pleaded more to Elijah and Voleth meir than her mum.

"I'm sorry Riya, but there's nothing we can do, the poison is an ancient one, it doesn't have an antidote, it was used in the past by witches as a form of banishment by death for members of the circle who committed treason ". Voleth meir said with sadness written all over her being.

"I can't lose her, noooooooooooo please, no God please ". Riya cried uncontrollably still holding her Mum.

"I'm cold". Her mother said.

Elijah who had been silent before now quickly brought a blanket to Riya. Riya wrapped her mother up and still held her close as she sobbed silently.

Outside in the cold night filled with pain and anguish, Adonis stood behind a tree and watched the house Meridith and the rest had teleported to. He knew her powers were coming back and becoming full blown, but he didn't quite expect her to learn teleportation that fast being a mere human with those infinite powers.

Adonis hadn't planned to let Meridith's mother live, he had poisoned her way before she even made that call, he just used her as bait to draw Meridith there so he could take a better and closer look at her. It wasn't really hard finding her mother as he had been following her for years and taking clear observation of her since her hair strand started to light up in the magic location jar used to detect when a witch is reborn, so he knew their house well.

After standing there in the cold for a while, he whispered a spell and disappeared.

Inside the house, Riya still held her mum who had started to turn very pale.

"What.....tt is hap...opening?". Her mother asked speaking with difficulty.

"Did you get into trouble?". She whispered with tears rolling down her eyes.

"I'm so sorry mum ". Riya said still sobbing.

"I'm so sorry ". She repeated holding her close.

"It's okay baby". Her mother replied smiling as she touched Riya's chin.

" It's peaceful". She said still holding her chin.

"Noooo mum, please nooo". Riya sobbed lightly.

" Do something". She whispered to Voleth meir as she cried.

"I'm really sorry dear". Voleth meir said patting her shoulder.

"Tell Justin I'm so sorry, and these past few years has been magic, I was wrong, tell him I'm so sorry". Her mother said with tears rolling down her eyes.

"I will, you'll tell him yourself mum stay with me, don't go please". Riya pleaded still holding her mum close.

It was dark and cold outside, but for some it was darker and for some, it was a normal night coated in darkness.
