SINFUL THIRST

I never wanted this life, all I wanted was to be happy, loved and protected by the one I loved, not pitied or manipulated. Let me rephrase that, I never knew how much I wanted this life until the day I died.

From where I stood atop the petite bridge that lead away from the gardens, I spotted a furry white rabbit hop out of a hole, it stopped seconds after a few hops, and then rubbed its hands against its face like rabbits sometimes did.

For obvious reasons I couldn't take my eyes off it, and slowly it hopped its way under the bridge and was out of sight in no time, but then something else caught my attention, or should I say, someone.

I did have quite a number of siblings, but even though I wasn't acquainted with many ( if not all of them ) on a personal level, I could still pick them out in a crowd, if not by the pride of their countenance, then it would be by the richness of their attire, that was just how wealthy we really were.

Plus, this was within the palace, and the Lord's personal garden no less, no one else was allowed here, no one else other than family, for some reason that was my father's policy, he never allowed strangers or visitors into this particular garden, and definitely not in his absence, so imagine my surprise when I saw my siblings here, and with a stranger no less.

They were a crafty lot, that part I was already aware of, I knew they hadn't come here just to admire the flowers, but how they got a stranger in, that I couldn't figure out.

I leaned against the rail to get a better view of them, but whoever it was that they spoke with, I couldn't see him or her, they had long hair that fell over their shoulders and covered their faces, then it hit me, long hair, that meant they were probably from a noble family, just as we were, but if that was the case, then why was this meeting a secret?

The rich I knew were mostly pompous and proud, they would never sneak into a place when they could as well enjoy the echoing applauds that announced their presence, something didn't feel right, to be honest that feeling had lingered for a long while now. I didn't trust my siblings one bit and something told me this stranger was just as untrustworthy.

I squinted, trying to make out a distinguishing feature to this particular character, but almost to no avail, other than his long blonde hair that reached his hips and an obviously expensive robe, the other thing that looked unique about him was the creature on his robe, it looked like a bird of some sort, a strange bird, the likes I had never seen before.

Now I tried to make out their conversation, but it was mostly whispers and I was terrible at eavesdropping, as if sensing my presence the stranger suddenly stopped talking, and soon the others did too, then slowly he began to tilt his head upwards, where he would inevitably catch me spying on them.

I froze temporarily. Knowing my siblings, they would never let me go scot free if they realized I had been trying to eavesdrop on their conversation, but I also knew how curious I could get sometimes, my inquisitive nature would never give in, and definitely not now when I would have the opportunity of seeing this stranger's face, caught or not, I assumed it was worth it.

" Camille ? " a voice suddenly called, I shot my head up instantly, staring back at her like I had been caught red handed in a heinous act.

" What where you doing Camille ? " she asked again, but I didn't answer, instinctively I looked down again, but no one was there, not my siblings nor the stranger, they were all gone.

" Camille ? is everything alright ? " she asked again, this time in a softer tone, but soft or not I knew she didn't really care, why ? you may ask, that's because people like her were only capable of caring for themselves.
