Chapter 10 - Flame On!
"Eh?! A spar with dad!?"
I look at Veemon giving me a disbelief look. I can't help but smile at this familiar moment when I train him back then. It involves a lot of workout and he throws a fit, which is something we did earlier for 2 hours straight at the forest near the university and we took a 10 minutes break.
So, when I said it'll help him to gain digivolution, he shut up and never complain ever since. So, seeing him doing this brings back memories.
"Yup. Let's start with normal spar." I said as Veemon looks nervous.
"Umm, Dad, you beat Magnamon and his armies....." Ah right, Dorulumon and Ballistamon help Veemon to catch up with everything.
"Vee." I said, snapping the little guy out of his nervousness. "This is a spar. It's not if you can win or not. Show me what you got, okay?"
Veemon looks at me for a moment before nodding and taking a boxing stance. I summons my mic and taking a bojutsu stance.
"Here I come, dad!" I grin as he rush towards me and pulls his fist back. "V-Punch!"
I stop his fist with my mic, I can feel him putting more strength into the punch.
"Come on, Vee. I taught you more than just overpowering enemies!" I said before effortlessly push him back. I swing my mic, but he did a backflip to dodge it before kicking the ground and launch himself forward.
"V-Headbutt!" I sidesteps to dodge the attack as he caught himself up. "V Shot!" As he launch a small energy ball on me, I counter it with a small Rock Soul.
To my surprise and pride, he use the smoke as his advantages. He disappear from the view but the sound of sliding is loud and clear.
"V-Knockout!" I dodge away before trying to slams my microphone down. He rolled away before pull a handstand and kick with both of his feet. I manage to block it as he sent me back a few feet.
He then got up before grinning. I grin back as I grip my mic tightly. Suddenly, a glow appears from my screen as an egg with a single horn and flaming pattern appears from my screen. I widen my eyes before looking back at Veemon who simply grins wider.
"Veemon, Digivolution!" As he said that, a pillar of flames burst out of the ground as the egg suddenly divide itself into armor pieces and fly into the pillar of flame. It took a while before the flame disappear as a figure looks like Veemon but with mature appearance, longer limbs and new sets of armor appear.
He successfully access his armor digivolution after only hatch not long ago! I don't know whether to scold him for being reckless to digivolve without any warning or test or be proud of him.
Ah, fuck it, I choose the latter.
"Nice job, Flame." I said as I grip my mic tighter. "Now, come at me, son!"
"Sure will, dad!" He said with a grin before rushing towards me with faster speed. "Express Claw!" I have to activates Rock and Roller to block it properly.
To my surprise, he knocks my mic away and tries to hit me, but I swiftly dodge it.
"Flame Fist!" I saw Flamedramon tries to punch me with his flame coated fist, so I prepare one of my own.
"Fire Jab!"
.....THERE'S NO FUCKING WAY AM I CALLING IT 'MAN OF FIRE STRAIGHT'! WHO GIVE THE NAME ANYWAY!?!?
Both of our fist collided as an explosive shockwave created from the collision. Flamedramon ends up sent flying backward as light covers his body before he devolved back to Veemon, groaning with swirly eyes.
What is this, Pokemon?
"Dad's too much for me...." I rub my head sheepishly. I was suppose to hold back but I guess that I accidentally use too much strength on Fire Jab. I guess it due to the anger I felt while remembering the move's original name.
Seriously, I was blushing in embarrassment when that move register into my head and when I have to shout it out my moves. I approach Veemon and help him get up.
"W-well, how did I do, dad?" I can't help hut notices Veemon looks even nervous. But why did he? It was just a spar. He looks down a bit.
.....oh right.....Vee has always been nervous about his strength. Digimons feared him for having too much powers to access and he grows to know that he has the power to help, but over the journey, he doubts himself when he can't help.
It was stopped when he access the Armor Digivolutions, but it resurfaces when he lost against a general despite the evolutions. The final nail of the coffin....
I gently rubs his head before connecting both of our forehead. I simply grins at him as he looks at me in surprise.
"No need to worry, kiddo. You've grown so much." I said as I rubs the back of his head. "Just remember, you and your brothers are my pride and joy, no matter what others said. Okay?"
Veemon looks at me before he start to get teary eye. He rubs the tears off his eyes as I help him.
"Remember, I'll always be proud of you." I said as Vee nodded shakily. I simply grin before pulling out a card with a green plus sign and insert into my digivice. "Heal."
The digivice glows as the surrounding glows green and I can feel my fatigue disappear from my body. I saw Vee's bruises from the impact disappear.
"Thanks, dad." I simply smiles at him. I wince at the loud cheer made from Ballistamon and Dorulumon. Okay seriously, why did I continue to forget that they're here whenever I was in a zone?
"Dad." I look back at Vee, who seems nervous. "Can you sing for us again?" I stare at him before chuckling.
"No need to be nervous to ask me to sing, Vee. You know how much I love it." Vee blushes in embarrassment before nodding. I grab my mic before testing it if it's working. I sigh before I starts humming.

I stop before look back at the others. They stare at me for a while before they start clapping loudly. I feel heat rush through my face as Vee cheered loudly.
Yeah, life seems to get better, albeit a bit....
